I have a German Shepherd mix pup and I have been implementing these things with him. I low-key would love to get him a friend later down the line and I am starting to love Australian Shepherds. I've known of this breed but because of your videos and noticing how smart and high energy they are. Totally will match my pups energy.

This helps a lot! I’ve been wondering how to heel on walks. We know a basic heel for now so this is our next step. What are some high value treats you recommend aside from pb, whipped cream, and chicken? My boy isn’t as kibble motivated as Freya lol

This will be very helpful! Training a chihuahua heel definitely hurts your back from bending so much to reward lol

My dog doesn’t want treats when outside so it’s hard to train him outside do you have any recommendations?

I'd say from many channels I have seen that deal with obedience, a good thing to do is to get the dog's attention and say the command before lure. If the dog likes toys or excitement you can always switch to that. Another thing is to not try to rush progression, if the dog does best inside work on removing treats inside and getting things reliable there first. Then start from the beginning outside. Another you can use is a high quality e-collar (not a shock collar) that has vibrate and "stim" to confuse the dog and get its attention back to you. That tool is also useful for off leash training because it can reach from a mile away. All it does is give a small buzz and a pager level vibration. It can also help to show where the dog is messing up better if it is getting frustrated. Aside from far reach tools, a good thing I personally learned from training my Guinea pig Chichi is to not stop using a treatless lure. The dog might not understand the word yet so definitely get it's attention before the lure. Now dogs are a lot smarter than a guinea pig so I'm sure the treatless/toyless lure stage won't be permanent.

My biggest suggestion for those training their puppies heel is to MAKE SURE YOU DON'T MOVE TOO FAST FROM FOUNDATION WORK! With my first puppy I really messed up with her by not continuing to work on luring and basic foundations, not just with heel, but with all her commands. Now as an adult her commands are sloppy and she's really slow to perform. Don't make the same mistake I did lol. The dogs you see online with amazing focused heels were taught that with extensive luring. Most of those dogs didn't even know verbal commands until they were 6 months! Obviously if you're not looking to train your dog a competition heel, you don't need to train your dog to that extent, but even when your dog has a solid heel command, it doesn't hurt to continue working on basic foundations. Good luck to all those out there with new dogs or puppies!!

YES YES YES!!!! Don’t move too quickly!! We worked from 8 weeks until 4-6 months until hers was soooo good!!!
