The ONLY reason I am pondering making this upgrade is because my printer is working so absolutely brilliantly as a result of all the other changes I have made from Michael's Videos I just don't want to go one tiny step backwards. Literally from the test cube I have from my first print, to now is night and day different. My latest cube almost resembles an injection molded model!! You are changing the game Michael, please keep them coming. (I will undoubtedly do more).

Michael, Thanks a million. I assembled my Ender 3 and was up and running in a matter of hours thanks to your videos. I think that the SRK mini 1.3 will be the next upgrade as it solves all the issues that I intended to fix on my 3d printer. One of the features that I liked about the SRK mini was the addition of the BL Touch without the need to cut wires. Great video. Keep the content coming! -Michael

So let's talk about the duck. It's actually a programmer's friend. Whenever you're trying to fix a bug and can't seem to find the problem, you talk it out to the duck. If it's a difficult or persistent issue, you gather a council of ducks to work on the problem. Since talking out the issue often helps, and a rubber ducky will never get horribly confused or bored, this little ducky can be your helper friend. If all else fails, you have something squishy to hurl across the room.

Did you get the bltouch to work? After many hours of trying and reading commits for marlin 2.0 it seems like there is an bug in the code as they have changed the way auto bed levelling works. My machine doesn’t calculates the probe area correctly and goes off the build plate. If you have any tips I would be greatly appreciative. Cheers

Myles C ensure you’re using the dedicated firmware from big tree’s github page for the 1.2v only, all the bed settings are correct within the version of marlin so shouldn’t need to play around too much although by default it’s a 7x7 grid for bl touch , don’t be shy to read the config file for marlin there is soo many new cool features and most of settings have an explanation about the settings above them
@mylesc26885 жыл бұрын
George McCann yeah I did use their version first but I think it’s in a recent update that might be causing an issue. My bltouch works fine it’s just the bed levelling. I have gone through every line of the config and read all the documentation I could find. The issue seems to be with the probe locations which is based on the new probe offset syntax NOZZLE_TO_PROBE_OFFSET. Is your version using that?
@georgemccann38865 жыл бұрын

Some FAQs from the comments: 1. -There are notes in the github about having to emulate EEPROM for this board with a file on the SD card. When compiling from Marlin 2.0, I only uncommented auto init eeprom and it worked without any problems. It made it's own EEPROM.DAT file on the sd card. EEPROM is verified working for me. Only downside is having to have the SD card in when you boot or try to save settings.- UPDATE: Thanks to my Patron Glen Roe for keeping me up to date. Marlin 2.0 has now been patched to avoid the need for the EEPROM data to be stored on the SD card. All of the downloads above been updated. 2. There are a few spare pins free for things like filament runout sensor, plus dedicated ports for RGB LED. It also support the new BIQU TFT24 touch screen. I plan to make a follow up covering these. 3. This board connects like usual to Octoprint or PC via USB. 4. If you've already upgraded to the SKR V1.3, don't despair! It's a more powerful board with more extend-ability. Only real downside is needing to print new case to fit it. 5. I purchased the Senna hoodie at the Aus GP this year. I'm sorry but I don't have an online link :)

@axelhopfinger5335 жыл бұрын
@@Arek_R. No, they can make a profit. Just a reasonable one, in relation to the price of the printer. The Creality products just offer too little value and features for the price compared to the competition. Like, when they try to sell some bog standard cheap spatulas as "special print removal tools" for over $30 for a set of 3. Hi, Thanks for a great summary video of that board. It will help a lot people to get started with what I also consider the best board for the Ender 3. Your video however show the mini ups as an extension available for this board but this mini ups deliver 12v and the ender 3 is 24v.
@TeachingTech5 жыл бұрын
I have them sitting here but haven't looked into them yet. I'll probably make a video on them at some stage.
@damienmartinguillerez5 жыл бұрын
@@TeachingTech I do have one. It works fine for 12v but I cannot see how it can work with a 24v system. When charging them with 24v it might not blow (each caps is protected and unless you go over the fuse, the ups should be fine. Unless one of the component is rated for 24v max). There are voltage regulator around the circuit that will force the voltage to be max 2.5v x 5 = 12.5v. If I have not made oversight, this will force the voltage of the PSU to output 12v or will take a lot of heat in a single resistance. I would not test it on a 24v system. Best case the thing works but suddenly your motor gets half the voltage so needs twice the power and start heating. It's 0 risk for the printer but the charge wont be enough to park the head and save everything before proper shutdown. Anyway this sounds like an interesting experiment to drive if you wish to know what happens used on a 24v system. Just be prepared for the ups to smoke. If I am wrong with the voltage regulator behavior, then the supercaps will explore and the gas of caps are pretty nasty. Anyway I'll be really interested to see an actual test if you are willing to take the chance ;)

If you have an Gen L, you might upgrade to an SKR 1.3 which has same formfactor. It has a CPU with EEPROM, so no need to emulate it on SD as on the STM32 boards. As you already have the stepper drivers, going 32bit is less than 20$. Also on SKR 1.3 you can use smoothieware.

i have to say im not all that impressed with the Screen they do, its literally plug and play in to the TFT marked headers , no firmware changes or anything which is great for ease of use, but theres a few problems ive had which ill get in to later... from what i understand (forgive me if i get this wrong then feel free to correct me) it seems to piggy back on the serial connection as if it was plugged in to the USB port. here lies my first conflicts with the screen and octoprint which again ill get in to soon. if you've used octoprint (who dosent..?) you know the annoyance of trying to cancel a print or change temperature while its pre-heating, either you wait a few mins depending on your material and temperatures or you switch it of at the plug and back on if your home/by it. if you try and change the temperature while its heating up you cant! you have to wait till its finished heating up before you change or use the STOCK LCD with your printer. so.. same deal, the printer sends the same busy commands too the TFT locking it out of any changes at all until its finished heating, of coruce you can use the m108/EMERGENCY_PARSER commands with octoprint but the e3 mini firmware screams at me if i try and enable this saying its not supported yet, and there dosent seem to be a easy way of adding these to the TFT firmware Evan if i had it enabled, but i could be wrong.. another annoying thing i've bumped in to twice now in my few weeks of owner ship is that because the TFT seems to share the same serial as octoprint, i've had octoprint error out of my a few times just disconnecting saying something along the lines of "timeout" "too many connections" again not exactly what is said but my memory is shot today hah, and the layout is kinda boring and poor for a COLOR screen now don't get me wrong its very handy for changing a temperature quickly if you want to do some testing before a print or to change it AFTER heat up, but for the time in between when you think "oh crap wrong temperature" you find your self having to use the stock screen, so then your left with using both, probably not the upgrade solution others and me included was expecting so to summarize seems to share this serial connection the screen also has the same limitations seems to conflict with octoprint causing disconnects and then failed/unfinished prints poor layout and use of a color screen and i am i no way trying to say its crap, as the main board it bloody amazing, but the screen.. eh.. i dunno id stay away from it, maybe instead get your self a screen for your PI and set up touch UI for octoprint, and have a much better UI experience and hopefully no serial conflicts, i mean you probably have your pi right next to the printer anyway right?.. i think that's the route i'm going to take next..

Probably not worth it, the board is a literal nightmare to install due to the lack of documentation and photos. The support staff seem helpful, but for something that's allegedly plug and play, it's way too hard to get working. Having proper photos of the board with the relevant wires rather than a wiring diagram would go miles towards making the process real. As would having real documentation about how the firmware is supposed to work, including video of the procedure as it's far more difficult than just loading the firmware onto an SD card and powering on the machine.

Let me know if you want them, was a "personal time" project so i rightfully own them :) Regarding the routers power, i just got a couple of DC regulator from china, 30A max input 42v. With the mods i've seen (and copied) on the ender 3, you already know what i'm talking about ;)

Worth noting that the latest SKR mini E3 now has a new revision board (V1.2) which is not compatible with the V1.1 board firmware. Check which version you have before flashing teachingtech's firmware. info on the new revision here on bigtreetech's official aliexpress store: " Dear customer, On September 29 start sending version is BTT SKR mini E3 V1.2, only this firmware is currently supported: github.com/bigtreetech/BIGTREETECH-SKR-mini-E3/tree/master/hardware/BTT%20SKR%20MINI%20E3%20V1.2" www.aliexpress.com/item/33042554065.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.4f494c4dfyWDdg

From the comparison of schematic V1.0 and V1.2 looks like previous version doesn't have UART communication with TMC2209 at all. In V1.2 they scarified RGB pins and enabled UART. Now, instead of RGB they use Neopixel (one wire interface)

@@TeachingTech Yes, it's connected to the Z-Stop Im on marlin 2.0-Bugfix. It's a V3.0 BLtouch and I've read so far alot of people have this problem with the board. And when they switch to the original Creality board the BLtouch works just fine. This is a video of the problem we are all having (i.imgur.com/BEdxRFO.mp4) So while probing it randomly fails, you see the BLtouch led becoming red but the trigger is not registerd by the board.

I just installed the SKR Mini E3. It was very easy. I didn't have to flash a new firmware, everything worked well. I think it solved all the surface artifacts and apparently my Ender 3 prints as well as the Ender 2 now. I still have to check with a grey or black filament to be sure.

I was looking at the SKR 1.3 and a set of 2209, but for this price/convenience, I think I'll do this. Thanks so much!
@oleurgast7305 жыл бұрын
You might prefer the SKR 1.3 as it has an other CPU. The SKR 1.3 can be used with smoothieware, which is more advanced than marlin 2.0.x. Marlin 2.0.x is alpha. Until 07-30-19 even the HAL for the STM32 was defect, as soon as you went aside from stock configuration, strange things happened (like activating the probe input to use a simple film probe or a piezo, all endstops where deactivated). The CPU on the SKR1.3 is much better supported, as its the same as on smoothieboard - the STM32F1-series is relative new for 3d-controllboards. Also the STM32F1... have no EEPROM. Marlin emulates EEPROM on Micro-SD. Can give some trouble if changing the SD-Card...

Just be mindful of the center mounting hole on the E3 boards. It’s dangerously close to a resistor that can be crushed by a screw head, so it’s best to leave that screw out.

I think this mod is quite a long way from being the best. 1. stock 4.2.2 and 4.2.7 boards dont need a bootloader either. or already have it integrated? 2. easy enough to update marlin with thermal runaway protection etc on the stock board. 3. stock 4.2.2 and 4.2.7 is also 32bit 4. manual bed leveling is easy and cheap/free when you get the hang of it. 5. Only surface artifacts I see are caused by the infill showing through if the walls are too thin 6. Love the classic loud stepper sound 7. Not as easy or affordable as the stock board already in the machine I would say hands down the best upgrade I did was adding a bimetalic heat break and a hardened steel nozzle. Even cheaper than changing the board and it lets me print all kinds of filament. For the price though, you cant beat the cardboard box enclosure - another fantastic upgrade for the ender 3.

When installing a BLTouch you remove and discard your Z end stop switch, it is no longer required as the BLTouch acts as your Z-axis end stop. You can remove the switch from the side of the printer and remove the old wire completely from the motherboard compartment.

I might see if I can buy a slightly longer cable or just simply cut and extend this one. Thanks for your enclosure design and your videos!

Just got my Ender 3 Pro and a few accessories (upgrades), including this board. Your installation diagrams are great! Having built numerous computers, this board would have been only a few minutes to change, EXCEPT for the insane procedure that Creality appears to use in which they HOT GLUE all of the connectors in place. It took me almost 40 minutes to get all of the hot glue off to the point where I was confident I could pull the connectors without yanking the sockets off of the PCB. It's a good thing I wasn't saving the original board, because despite my best efforts, some small amount of hot glue remained on the hot end thermistor socket which was enough to cause the socket to pull partially out of the PCB as I was removing the connector. Who does this? Anyway, GREAT content and I'm learning TONS from you!

I considered the mini dip but just said YOLO and bought the full SKR v1.3 and some 2209's. Printed a case and I couldn't be happier. The full board gives you so many more options and the only drawback is you have to print a case which takes about 6 hours.
