Mike Stewart described it to me in the early 90's as "way heavier than Pipe". Naturally, I was incredulous, but then saw the Laird pic years later. Mike made no claim of being first, but...those crazy boogie boarders pioneered most of the world's slabs-

@xwhite2020 Great story. I'm from where him and his brother grew up. Always makes me proud. I surfed out of control tropical swell here in west Fla yesterday. There was a window with reeling barrels. Lots of guys make it over when it's good. Lame ass Kelly still hasn't caught a west fla tube. 🤣🤡

The tahitians were surfing chopes before any one else even heard about it then ben severson and Mike Stewart went for a few years and their camera man ratted the spot to his friends and we'll now it the olympic stage for 2024
