@@skipstopstart yeah it's the old dilemma. Call yourself a rebel against the man while rooting for a dictatorship at least as bad as your own (being very generous here) just because it's against people you don't like. @Em C Europeans are clueless on American politics, but let's be honest, Americans are even more clueless on European politics. What percent of Americans could even correctly identify the leader of Germany right now? Maybe 15% if we're being optimistic. I'm American, and quite frankly its embarrassing how few of my countrymen could even correctly tell me what continent Spain is on. A full 1/5th of Americans can't even find their own country on a map! That's astonishing.
@MelGibsonFan
@MelGibsonFan Жыл бұрын
@@JWonn The idea that your average American could not tell you what continent Spain is in seems ridiculous to me lol. I agree though, knowing the various prime ministers of European nations is probably something most Americans would struggle with. America is one nation who’s culture is exported through out the world, where Americans are not exposed to the dozens of other nations culture and politics in the same way. In my opinion it’s just a matter of numbers… otl I also think there’s some ugly racial stereotypes behind this too.
@JWonn
@JWonn Жыл бұрын
@Em C Yeah, the idea that Spain is in South America is something I've heard from multiple different people on different occasions. I've also had one family friend insist Cuba is in the middle-east. And another friend that thought Chile was in Africa. Polls have found that 64% of Americans can't find North Korea on a map, and 77% can't find Iran on a map.

@@BM-wf9uf There was a very strong isolationist sentiment in the US the early days of World War II. The military was expecting that eventual involvement was going to happen, but planning for a war against the Nazis when the public wasn't yet sold on shedding American blood in Europe again was a problem. So, the military's response was to write up plans for a war against Great Britain. Plans that no one in the public was going to believe were serious, but which could be easily adapted to plans for other wars on the other side of the Atlantic. We have similar plans written up for a war against Canada for similar reasons.

PS. I think most Americans are all Hoorah when it comes to the US "spreading democracy" but they don't see the results of the fall out. Bin Laden was trained by US military during the Russian invasion of Afghanistan in "Charlie Wilson's war." Once Russia pulled out, American funding ended and we abandoned millions of refugees to freeze and starve to death. And the American people do not understand what it would be like to watch your child starve to death because of politicians playing with your life. If you are a parent, what lengths would you go to to avenge that child's death? But Americans don't see that because our media doesn't show it. It just shows our military and politicians"helping" to spread democracy.

Amazing that the last name of the German guy you interviewed is literally "friend". Well played. Also funny, that the 2 Germans you showed in the trailers were both from the green party. I imagine they were the most open to interviews with Jon since it seems like their views align in a lot of areas but I'm curious if there will also be German politicians from other parties. Btw, I would love for Jon to have a looong discussion with Gregor Gysi or Robert Habeck.

I mean, which German party DOESN'T mostly align with him in a lot of areas (aside from AfD, for obvious reasons)? The nice thing about Germany is that pretty much all parties agree on the fundamentals, and just disagree on stuff like, the correct means by which to achieve/preserve them or the timeframes in which to do them, the order of priorities, and so on. Pretty much all proper German political parties would be considered liberal-progressive from a US perspective, even the ones that are considered conservative here.

@bianca funnily enough, it was the USA who invaded and occupied Haiti until 1934, and directly controlled its finances until 1947, stealing away 40% of Haiti's national income, and stole all of its gold. After the USA left, they put a brutal and fascist dictator (Duvalier) in power in Haiti to rule in favor of the US for the following 14 years. The difference between America and Europe, is that America is still doing what Europe ended last century... and they are showing no sign of stopping........
