Tuan Vu and Scott Davidson teamed up and practiced in secret to prepare for this competition.
Here is our finals performance. You should be able to see how much effort we put in. A little bit of the backstory… We started working on this in January in Las Vegas at 1 in the morning for a late night jam and we knew then that we could take the title! So we secretly met several more times in Portland, Santa Rosa and Chicago. And for the 5 weeks prior to the event, Tuan has been living and working in Chicago with us where we pushed ourselves every day through sore overused hip flexors, back, neck and knee pain. Wherever we met, we got up at 5 or 6, shredded before and often after work, making and reviewing hours of practice tapes. We had some amazing support along the way from friends who were under a strict NDA about our partnership. Thanks to everyone for their support! Especially Valeria and Alex who were all in from the get go. They supported our travel and our intense workout schedule, Alex gave up his bedroom so Tuan could have a private workspace while in town and Valeria cooked for us every day she was in town and had leftovers so food wouldn’t be an issue. Tuan says her homemade Mac & Cheese is the best he’s EVER had! So thank you Tuan for choosing me as your partner! Even though there was no real competition for us at this worlds, we submitted a knockout performance with truly unique groundbreaking seamless content that was, in my humble opinion, the best team freestyle ever! Side fact: In 1999, I won the Singles Freestyle World Championships in Chicago and that very same year Tuan and Eric Wulff Won the Doubles Freestyle, and it has been 24 years since either of us has won a world freestyle title. What an amazing journey, getting to really know Tuan in the process, traveling to meet and train together, and culminating in the world title in Medellin Colombia!
