My opinion: Honestly, Kakashi and Obito were never friends and had no chance of being.Their relationship wasn't just toxic, it was foolish too. . Kakashi was an asshole, selfish and arrogant guy; Obito was kind, loving and caring Totally opposite to each other, not only in behavioral terms, but also psychologically. In canon, it was pretty obvious that Kakashi and Obito were never friends. Kakashi treated him with enormous contempt and indifference and he also treated Rin the same way. He didn't see either of them as "friends." He saw both as tools and didn't care about anything other than ninja rules. So much so that when Rin was kidnapped, Kakashi not only didn't care, he also didn't want to go after her, showing his complete indifference and contempt towards his own team. Many people are completely in love and crazy about Kakashi due to his abilities or his use of the Sharingan, but very few people know how much of an asshole and scumbag he really is in his essence. I am honestly deeply saddened to know that in life Rin decided to value the person who despised and mistreated her the most, but in death she decided to choose to wait and love for the person who respected and loved her more. In life, Rin had a platonic childhood crush on Kakashi, but in death she chose of her own free will to love Obito for all eternity and made no point of waiting or mention Kakashi at all. ,Showing that she had not only overcome it, but had also fallen in love with and forgiven Obito (while 99%) of the fandom hates him hard, Rin never stopped loving him. Now that's real love and not some stupid teenage crush.
