This song evokes so much emotion... The video goes really well with it as well.. The shots of desolate, barren landscapes make me think of the end of the world ...this song also brings me back to a REALLY dark period of my life when i was struggling with a really bad heroin addiction...i was homeless, walking aimlessly around Manhattan with my headphones in, and this song was playing on repeat... I was so suicidal and felt extremely hopeless.. My older brother had hung himself shortly before that time, and my addiction brought me to such a place of despair and lonliness... I spent like 15 years up to that point in countless institutions, rehabs, detoxes, shelters, jails, and homelessness... Im not religious whatsoever, but i found myself sitting in a courtyard outside of some church..and i began to contemplate suicide...i cried for the first time in years as i sat there, questioning my purpose and reflecting on my life, wondering why i chose the path i did ..asking myself why i couldnt put the drugs down and lead a normal life..i felt incapable...i felt unworthy of love... I felt like a failure and a burden .. I wasnt even man enough to follow through and end my life .. I ended up continuing the cycle that is addiction until i sought out treatment yet again, however, this time i actually stayed clean.. I have over 3 years clean and im still struggling A LOT with depression and hopelessness... I have been isolating and sleeping my life away lately, but despite my lack of motivation and my paralyzing depression, i am still in a better place than i had been when i was in the grips of addiction... I have a LOOOONG way to go before i find happiness..i have to change certain attitudes and behaviors that i inherited, and push myself to find a steady job and get on my feet..i need to learn how to live.. To be responsible ...i am going to school full time and made honors every semester since i began, which is a huge accomplishment for me considering my track record.. Anyway..im sorry for rambling but this song just puts me in deep thought and i have such immense appreciation for music like this...music has helped me get through so many hard times in my life ..times when i was on the brink of giving up .. Music is my therapy..and without it i dont think id be here today
