There is a theory (which I believe is canonical and there is nothing that disproves this theory) that Gerald, to create the supreme life form, went to Angel Island in the Hidden Palace and there was the Super Sonic mural, Gerald Robotnik was inspired by this Super Sonic mural to create Shadow, in other words, Shadow is really a faker, and Sonic is the true ultimate life form. If you tell this in Sonic X, Gerald went to another planet to try to find the ultimate life form, in the Sonic movies, Sonic... doesn't seem like a very strong guy, he's very silly compared to Shadow. Gerald wouldn't even imagine that the ultimate life form is a jester
