Absolutely always love seeing TY content. Wouldn't object there being game here and there on Patreon as well - which translates that I'd rather order your TY Patreon than the current FoW one, but I definitely understand that there might be more viewership for this. I noticed the hunter-killer rule too, that was a good catch from fellow viewer, but suppose some things go into the fog of war at times, as much as you play. Norwegians looked more scary than they turned out to be, as Soviet infantry alone was so deadly against the tanks. With that list I'm not sure what could have been done differently. We played the same mission with a friend, but in that I got brutally overwhelmed by lousy dice. Interesting mission anyway.

Deployment can always look wonky is these games as sometimes you have a lot of equipment in such a small deployment zone. Nature of the game unfortunately

At 1:03:30, Danish infantry fired at the VDV troops in the open. You had to keep track of the shot that hit the VDV troops because most of the shots required FP test due to the concrete wall, which is bullet proof cover. For the Danish trooper up against the wall, his shot does not require FP test, whereas the rest of the troopers that fired with concealment against the VDV, their shots required FP test to destroy the VDV troopers.

Great game, the VDV did nicely, I prefer some t55 myself. Planning a Cold War long Weekend VDV vs Swedes early next year with a tour of Saumur tank museum as a day tour for the players also to visit the armour up close. Keep up the great work Cheers Marr

Always good to see another round of Team Yankee! I was a little skeptical on the Nordic forces using old Soviet equipment, but it seems it can be downright fun.

Only the Fins use some Soviet equipment, the Norwegian equipment shown in this report are all NATO standard.

During the first Soviet AA defense shot against the Cobras, there were couple of mistakes made. First, the Cobras are hit on 6, not 5, due to Hunter-Killer. Second, the infantry team with AA missile could not conduct defensive AA fire since the BMP-1 infantry unit were pinned down by artillery (1st). BMP-1 infantry teams can also be pinned if they were mounted inside a destroyed BMP-1 regardless the team survives or not.

Always enjoy your TY games. Re the carv park/ scale views, I've found playing on an 8 x 5 helps and totally changes the dynamic. Doesn't completely remove car parks but does create greater distances between platoons.

I have played at home on 8x5 and completely agree. However, Jon’s filming space doesn’t allow for that size table so we’re stuck with it for now 😃

Great batrep. Thanks, Attacking long-wise on the table in TY is always hard unless there is lots of LOS-blocking terrain (notice you guys use no hills), but advancing with Leo 1s and no smoke makes Baby Jesus cry.

Finally got around to watching this battle report and it was a very enjoyable one. Never a fan of every force in team yankee sporting its own AA and aircraft, but always a good time nonetheless. I like the bare bones bread and butter mech and armor smashing each other to pieces. Im REALLY looking forward to seeing the Danes

Be interesting to see an modern Ukraine vs Russian engagement with Ukr using leopards and other Nato vehicle's along with Soviet vehicle's against Russian forces say medium/ large points game.
@durnaxe8708

Can Danes not take Leopard 2's from the West German book? That book allows a platoon of 4 Leo 2s, which eats all your reserves. Also you don't get to choose to attack at night, only to roll on the random time of day table. So planning specifically for night attacks is not a fantastic idea. When I looked at the Danes I thought the same thing as my Canadian force. Take a infantry mech formation and then take a platoon of 4 leo 2's (or 3 leo 2s and one platoon of 3 leo 1s) and go on defense.

I gotta say attacking with any NATO force seems like a hard sell for me. Everything they have seems to be intended for a defensive stance with a counterpunch reserve.

Great video, thanks for the Patreon early access. I really enjoy your TY games and often thought it would be a great idea if every 3rd or 4th Patreon game could be TY. It would be nice to see Mark's British (he said you'd already shot one game but there were recording issues so it got canned). It would be nice to his Israelis too, TY Oil Wars I guess. Much as the game has always appealed, I've steered clear of TY before simply because of the horde / car park issues with the more traditional Soviet unit sizes but I REALLY do like the look of the game and the models, the helos add a really interesting dimension. I often thought TY would play better in 10 or even 6mm, esp with some weapon ranges being in the 90-100" range, on a 6x4 ranges are mostly irrelevant. Much as I've tried to convince myself it's the better option game play wise though, the smaller scales just don't appeal and BF box sets are such great value. GHQ is also pricey! I costed out going GHQ entirely for what I wanted and, given there are no BF style discounts with GHQ, the cost would have ended up about 80% of the price of going all BF, 80% of the cost for 10% of the appeal (for me anyway). Yes there are other options but 10mm will definitely cost more than BF and the other 6mm options are a bit meh IMHO. The T80 Shock force though does provide an option to de-clutter the Soviet side of the table and even to run M1A1s, Leo 2A5s (but they are still pushing it at 17 points!) and Challengers with 140 points easily do-able on a 6 x 4. Straight M1s, even IPM, are cutting it a bit fine I think against T80s, even if the latter are only ROF 1/1. So finally we are taking the plunge with the 2 player starter, US and T80 Shock Starter boxes plus a bunch of AA, art and air boxes. I'm planning to hold off on infantry as I saw a BF interview where they talked about new plastic infantry coming for both Soviets and US next year with a new TY starter to feature both. I figure that will come with all the relevant heavy weapons and maybe transports so it would be a good way to get the infantry. I did ponder doing West Germans or British but opted for US (Desert Storm era) simply for the variety and flexibility.

Thanks for the comments. I'm sure that game wise playing at a smaller scale would resolve some of the car park issues however here's my issue with smaller scale... the painting. I enjoy building and painting 15mm scale. Smaller scale painting is not the easiest for these old eyes (And yes I'm dreading painting GW new Epic stuff). T-80s is a good way to cut down on the number of Soviet vehicles on the table. Plus personally I think the T-80 is one good looking tank. I like the Shock version that is hit on 4+. I wouldn't be adverse to doing the occasional TY for the Patron but I think I might face a backlash from the Diehard FOW players. Thanks for the comments!

@@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall Yes I suppose a number of Patreons subscribed due to the channel being pure FOW. Maybe you could do a poll in the Patreon page itself before / if considering it. It may even be a welcome addition, or not LOL. That said, if you are going to feature FOW fairly often on the regular channel, maybe no need. I’d really like to see a British game vs Pact or Soviets.

I agree that BF miniatures are fantastic but I don't have the space, time to paint or money for 15mm (especially Soviets). I went 6mm and I'm so glad I did. Check out Heroics and Ros, a UK based company who ships to the US. Not as good looking as GHQ but a fraction of the price. I put together a US M1 Abrams combat team AND a Soviet T-80 Motor Rifles for under $100 and GHQ would have been nearly twice that, and BF... well, a lot more. I wish TY supported 6mm but I understand it's more economical for them to not. All I can do is buy the books and shell out their products but honestly without the carpark effect, TY looks phenomenal.
@matttheyak

The visuals can be an issue I certainly agree. Although, I've played in smaller scales before and found that more often than not players still tended to clump their units/teams together. More of a 'war gaming' artifact of trying to minimize return shots, maximise frontage, fit all teams into a woodline or terrain feature, etc. Along with game system specific issues, like command distance ranges, etc.

Interesting discussion. I started with 15mm BF, went to 6mm but now I am playing with 10mm miniatures. I buy them at Red3 miniatures in the UK. High quality, fair pricing! In the end I also didn’t feel comfortable with the demands of TY in forming an army/company. Way to many models ont en table to be realistic. I therefore switched to 7 days tot the river Rhine rules. Highly recommended! That said, I love these battle reports because of the high quality of models and filming the reports.

Eryx = Eric's, from what I've heard. Good game. My conclusion for the Norwegians, is that, if you know you're going up against something like VDV, which don't have many tanks, is to have more shots. More Leopards instead of Viggens, TOW instead of TOW 2, to save a few points and have Carl Gustav instead of Eryx. Have more 20mm cannon M113's, including maybe a scout unit? Some TOW Mercedes, maybe some M109's and/or USMC Harriers. Lots to think about there
@markfrancis8978

We typically don’t know what each other will be facing except nation. Even knowing I was bringing VDV, I could have brought some T80 support with them (but thought lesser grade tanks seems more plausible)

Good points for sure. We don't try to list tailor here but something like Viggens will struggle to earn their points back unless there is a high value target, like T-80s, etc. But the rule of cool always applies for me. I could have taken harriers and been better off for it but the Viggens just look so cool.

based on what russians are doing in Ukraine and how incompetent they are, their abilities in the game should be brought down considerably.
