Here the thing about iroh he demonstrated true power by using fire bending as a last resort and revolutionized the concept of fire bending from being a aggressive form to a defensive art style not to mention I bet he can 1v10 no bending easy and that alone is creditable feat however iroh can not be a leader because he's a teacher and he knows and understands that as a fact

I like to think Iroh invented Lightning redirection as a backup plan for whenever Ozai goes crazy.

We miss the fact that the dragons Ren and Shao told Iroh the important technique in fire bending. Iroh also invented his own fire bending tactics using the water bending technique. In addition, Iroh is stronger than Ozai cuz he is rational in battle and does not succumb to anger like his brother

Ozai's advantages are speed, flight, and potentially power. Iron's advantages are wisdom and lightning redirection. I think the early battle depends on if Ozai is aware of lightning redirection or not. The longer a fight goes, the more it favors Ozai.

@@cru3her608 you have no reason to believe that. Ozai is already more powerful than Azula, who showed propulsion (not true flight) was possible without the comet. It's entirely reasonable Ozai has had practice with flight, considering the incredible ease with which he did it. Even Jeong Jeong was only shown stationary hovering. Also, it could explain how Ozai got to his hidden bunker prior to the Day of Black Sun.

Jeong jeong is not joke, he can do everything ozai did, he can even fly and create a wall of fire, he can make fire ontop the river and can also vanish creating fire blast, I think jeong jeong is underrated, to me he's among the top 3 benders of the fire nation

I think fandom is really underestimating Ozai because they hate his character. It's okay to hate him, but ignoring his strength is a whole different case. -Azula, despite being one of the strongest firebenders, admits that she can't take down Ozai in a duel. And it really says something when it's coming from Azula! -Iroh, also a firebending master, says that he is not sure if he can take down his brother. And in the Fire Nation Legacies, he also says that the fire and ambition in Ozai always burned brighter than his own. -Ozai was able to bend a giant lightning very quickly with a slight sunlight even though the eclipse wasn't entirely over yet. -During Sozin's Comet, Ozai's flames and lightning was considerably more massive than other firebenders'. And he was almost able to take down Aang. -The creators comfirmed that Ozai was one of the strongest firebenders that ever lived. This consideration also includes Sozin, Roku, Azulon and other firebenders. And being on top of that list is a big deal.

The Lightning redirection wasn't the only time Iroh sabotaged Ozai. By claiming he killed the last dragon he denied Ozai the title Dragon. Probably the reason he goes for Phoenix King.

Reasons why Iroh is guaranteed to win: Aang could've killed Ozai in the instant when he redirected his lightning and the battle would've been over. Aang had the element (HA) of surprise - because Ozai didn't know until that moment that Aang could redirect lightning. All of his power, his primary method of attack, were all literally turned against him and rendered useless in an instant. Aang could've ended it right there, but chose not to because of his teachings. Iroh on the other hand subscribes to no such niceties - and Ozai wouldn't know Iroh knows how to do it too, as he literally invented the technique. The moment Ozai throws the first bolt of lightning is the moment he seals his own fate. Iroh can redirect lightning, Ozai doesn't know Iroh can redirect lightning. Iroh wins by default. Edit: Fixed because initially I said "Ozai doesn't know people can redirect lightning" even though Zuko redirected lightning at him during the Day of Black Sun. Brain doesn't work.

It's not power that I think iroh had in mind. Even as powerful firebender as he was, I think iroh knew his kindness would cause him to hesitate to finish off his own brother, despite all the things he has done. That combined with his logic in seeing history would just see it as a feud between brothers never would have really solved things. I think that's why he decided to leave it to aang

Iroh has more self-discipline and that is about it. Ozai has more power, speed, endurance and willingness to use his power. I will say that The Last Airbender really did not do Ozai justice in the story because yes he was the big bad Aang had to stop, but we never saw what Ozai was capable of outside of Sozin's Comet.

I feel like Iroh definitely defeats Ozai in his prime but possibly not at the age Iroh was by Sozin’s Comet. I can’t see how Iroh at one point didn’t have as much if not more raw strength as Ozai if the legends of Iroh are anything to go by. That’s Ozai’s biggest advantage. The sheer amount of power he has on top of insane talent and honed technique. But Iroh had that as well. Iroh just has everything Ozai does but more. He has more tricks up his sleeve and can adapt and counter Ozai far better than Ozai can do to him. Like how they mentioned lightning is Ozai’s deadliest move and Iroh can easily shoot it right back at him as well as just generate his own. Meanwhile we don’t know if Ozai is capable of redirecting lightning. In terms of their pupils, Azula was off her game that day. The exact thing Zuko pointed towards why he felt confident he could win against her one on one. If Katara hadn’t been there I feel like it puts Azula at more of a disadvantage 😅. Because Zuko can easily redirect her lightning and defeat her with it. He baited her into using it just so she could do that. But because Katara was there Azula was able to use her to make Zuko redirect in a dangerous way trying to protect Katara. But yeah without Katara there I feel Zuko beats Azula at that moment almost every time. But had she not had a mental breakdown and had been the same Azula prior to Boiling Rock than it’s possibly a different story that day. So I don’t know about their pupils being both in their prime but I DEFINITELY feel that Iroh in his prime beats Ozai in his prime almost every time if it’s purely one on one with no tricks like Ozai endangering innocents to distract Iroh or put him in a dangerous position like Azula did with Zuko.

Haha, pitting Iroh stans against Azula stans. But Azula actually does bend more similarly to Ozai. Full body bending, using all limbs, flight, and speed. Ozai is just much faster and more powerful, and more in tune with bending, than she is, as seen in The Day of Black Sun.

Iroh is strong, but Ozai is described as being one of the strongest firebenders IN HISTORY. The fact that he was considered to be nay unbeatable even before Sozins Comet just goes to show that Iroh would never win. And keep in mind, to rise in the ranks of the fire nation, it was through strength. I love Iroh, but people need to realize that he isnt as strong as he used to be.

Nah, most of the time Iroh would win. Ozai can definitely win, but lightning redirection is broken in that situation. Ozai would have to not use his own lighting and watch out for Iroh's in order to win. Which is not impossible since he is abnormally fast, but definitely problematic.

Ozai's biggest advantage is his physical stature and raw power. While Iroh's biggest advantage is his wisdom and tactical mind. The problem with Iroh in a fight would be his hesitation. He has no ill intent to his brother and wouldn't want to fight him but only wanted him beat. Maybe if prime Iroh vs Prime Ozai, Iroh can win on 60/40 chance. But Ozai will probably beat Iroh the longer their battle can take if they are on a stalemate. The Azula vs Zuko is tricky because Azula is actually more like Iroh than Ozai. Zuko can fight even without bending but Azula maximizes her efficiency. She also learned how to redirect lightning at some point in the comics and she doesn't really care about tradition, only with power. But she never learned inner peace like Zuko did.

What I am hearing is, because iroh improved his pretending by understanding the other nations, his form of fighting style is unpredictable, like Aang. Aang had to learn all four elements, or five if you count energy bending, therefore whatever move he made Ozai could not predict because he only learned firebending, making his skill stale. The only way he would counteract Aang's moves is by sending in powerful blasts and even that didn't work.

It could go either way. It'd probably depend on the situation. I don't think there's a definitive answer to this question. I think the same goes for Zuko vs. Azula at the end of the show. The fight could have turned out differently depending on who was or was not there and what sort of lengths Azula was willing to go to try to get the upper hand on Zuko (and how likely it would be that Zuko would take the bait like he did when he protected Katara from Azula).

I've always gotten the feeling that the members of the Royal Bloodline have a greater innate ability to fire bend. As if members of the family are born stronger. It would explain why in the show we see that every single member of the family are insanely powerful. It would also explain why when Zuko betrays the family, he loses his fire bending and has to reconnect himself with the dragons. As if he separated himself from the legacy of his family. Idk it would make sense and explain why Ozai is the most powerful bender despite being so ignorant

@@charley2714 Well, it's a world were one person is born with the special ability to bend the 4 elements within a restoring cycle so birth-obtained capabilities for a royal family wouldn't necessarily be off the charts in this case. There's also a pressure factor: as rulers, they don't only have access to better training and teaching but they also absolutely need to keep an edge over the rest of the population in order to maintain power. This combination of training their hearts out of this pressure combined with a privileged position is surely an explosive one even without a birth advantage. Would be cool to know what are creators' thoughts about this, though, it's an interesting question to ask.

Ozai is not ignorant, he very much almost perfected firebending. All of Iroh's tools are not techniques from firebending. If Ozai was ignorant Iroh would have never said he may not be able to defeat him. Why would he lose against someone that has less power and also doesn't have another arsenal of techniques. Ozai must at least be as skilled at only Firebending.

@@proud9793 why was Zhao defeated by aang in large part? He lacked restraint and relied on power and strength. Ozai is the pinnacle of that. Iroh was the last to face the dragons ran and shah and actually become a full master and know what firebending is. Uncle iroh invented techniques that Ozai didn’t know Like Redirecting lightning and you can’t defend against if it’s redirected at you. Iroh was also patient and learned from The avatar so he wouldn’t have relied on pure anger and rage and talent to win Ozai would, have see what Zuko was unsuccessful vs Azula Most of the time. Zuko vs Azula final Agni Kai was the basically Ozai vs Iroh. Zuko was far more composed and knew how to hold back while Azula, a prodigy, relied on what fire bending was proved to not be which was rage and power and Destruction and that’s why he was winning until Azula shot Lightning at Katara.

In terms of leadership and intelligence Iroh win, in terms of fire bending Ozai is better. Unfortunately. That's why the war lasted. Iroh himself couldn't defeat him. Iroh said it himself. Ozai is the most powerful one. That's why they need the avatar.

I was just thinking about this topic and discovered your video. I read also comments on reddit, that Iroh's fans would always find a way to make him the winner. In fact I see Ozai as one of the most aggressive, skilled and powerful benders in history. I think the raw power of his fire is unmatched, except the Avatars, they outmatch every normal bender. But iroh is even more skilled. I would say it's close. If Ozai uses lightning Iroh will redirect it and the fight is over in a second. But without that it will be a long and tough fight and because of his age Ozai will win a few times more than iroh. The Avatars in the Avatarstate are obviously overpowered, but there are more benders, that would destroy Ozai. *Cough* Amon... Amon from LoK is so incredibly overpowered, that's not even funny anymore. surpassing his father at the age of 14, becoming the most powerful bender and 2. After all avatars, while many avatars would need their Avatarstate to fight him.

The problem is, you can never be calm if you train and fight like Ozai and Azula. Iroh taught Zuko calmness while firebending. If Ozai and Azula learned to be calmed, they wouldn't be who they were.

I believe that in terms of Raw Power and Talent Ozai has an edge whereas Iroh has an edge in Knowledge, Experience. Both should even in terms of Skill and Mastery. Iroh form of Firebending is more clam based traditional Pre-Sozin whereas Ozai form of Firebending is more aggressive based conventional Post-Sozin firebending. In a fight I give Prime Iroh the edge and Prime Ozai the edge. So during the during their mid 20s and 30s.

I actually believe Zuko would have won the Agni kai if Katara wouldnt have been there. He would have misdirected either at her or somewhere else. And like we and Zuko saw she was too unstable to be at her best.

I personally believe that Iroh and Ozai are basically equal in strength. The problem is we don't see Iroh fight seriously that much while we only see Ozai fight full power under the influence of the comet.

IMO IROH was and still is the most devastating Fire bender anyone who practices so much restraint is for a reason. He reminds me of Wiz from dragon ball . A playful character who almost Never shows his power but is has unlimited power on tap.

There's simply not enough information to know which one would take the win in a fight, but if I had to take bold guess Ozai seems stronger to me. Still, I gotta admit that Iroh is the only one who can both use and redirect lightning which essentially makes him thr only combatant who could use lightning at all. If Ozai tried to use lightning it would likely be game over for him.
