and if you disagree your mother smells of elderberries and I fart in your general direction

But elderberries have a very feminine smell, so if my mother smelled of elderberries that would be a compliment. The correct quote is your FATHER, as an insult to his masculinity.

John Cleese reminds me of my dad, who died in 2009. He was British and brought us up on Fawlty Towers and Monty Python. Very grateful to him for that.

British humour is dry, quick and irreverent. A favourite informal skit is watching David Attenborough walking through a palace garden with the Queen and commenting on placing a sundial under the shade of an enormous tree. The Queen does not miss a beat before commenting that she will suggest that the gardener move the sundial. Both know, smile and understate the absurdity before walking on to inspect the garden. The capacity to laugh out loud plus retain any sign of amusement even when something is really hilarious or ridiculous is inherently British. When the deadpan cracks you win is the essence of the fun. The Queen is actually an acutely observant and funny woman. No wonder she loved being married to Prince Phillip. He often blurted out what she thought. Imagine their private talks after formal events.

@@chriscunningham8807 I think the Queen and Prince Philip were perfect for each other. And I definitely agree she is a witty, funny woman. I agree with everything you said about her and British humor. I totally get it and appreciate it. I love being British 🤗
