The energy in this episode is so comforting. There is plenty of candidness, lightheartedness, and genuine interest, with a continuous undertone of mutual respect. This put a massive smile on my face and made me feel a certain way for the younger versions of these legends, their struggles (internal and external), and their attitudes when things looked bleak. The greatest pieces of advice I've ever heard about work life in America in general, but ESPECIALLY SO in entertainment: network like there's no tomorrow, and be easy to work with. Those two things will get you further than your natural talent ever will 9 times out of 10. Conan may have an insane sense of humor that connects with an audience, but the fact that he must actually be a very easy person to work with/for is probably the most important thing that has kept him employed and relevant for decades now.

I've reflected a bunch about when I was earlier in my career. I came to a different conclusion, those trivial moments were _not_ trivial. It was your livelihood and your future trajectory, it's easy to see things "in perspective", but what it really is is forgetting how much more precarious things were back then. I don't envy the current generation, for whom it's far more precarious from the outset. Good luck, folks.

Funnily enough, driving around Venice Beach, I did see signs, just printed out on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet and stapled to different telephone poles, which read "90210," with an arrow. Followed them to the beach, and sure enough, there was a 90210 shoot. No Joe E Tata, though - I saw Ian and Brian. Looks like he died two years ago.
