I'm so entertained to learn that Kate Micucci had a very similar experience to me. I also got a frog from, presumably, the same company - the first of which boiled in the mailbox (despite instructions on the container specifically stating to NOT put it in the mailbox) and the second one that lived nearly as long as Kate's. I want to say it died at about 17-18 years, outliving the dog we had at roughly the same time. They are interesting to watch for the first 2-3 months... then they just sit there in the water and look at you.

African Clawed frogs can last 20-25 years with proper care. The longest I've personally heard of one living is 30.

I have the exact same type of frog. My brother needed a pet in 2nd grade for pet day, and I was in preschool and we had just raised a bunch of those tadpoles. So my parents got to take one of those. My teacher told them that it would live 5 - 7 years and now after 21 years the damned thing is still alive. My dad also takes care of him so that's...neat.

I have very slight good news. The second tadpole probably died long before the water reached scalding temperatures, since most creatures have a fairly limited range of temperatures they tolerate. The one that appeared frozen probably gradually shut down before freezing, as they are cold-blooded. Its heart probably stopped.

@James, Quite possible, these frogs are a model organism and are extensively used in laboratories. Prior to home pregnancy kits, they were used as living pregnancy tests at hospitals, they'd inject the woman's urine into the frog to see if it laid eggs (more info here: /watch?v=cAgMnLg2XDk). Generally, leopard frogs or bull frogs are used in high school level dissection but having an ACF being dissected wouldn't surprise me.
