also thanks for the compliments on the paint job TC and thank you for recording the match :) i worked really hard that last week to finish that tortoise job, lost many hours of sleep to get it done, but well worth it. im glad it made it on camera somewhere. i knew the match was on the stream although they rightfully only showed morgan and keith most of the time, much more interesting game, though it was a surprise to learn the game was still being fully recorded and now i get to watch it. quite a treat and i appreciate that :)

Yeah like others have said, I think it is safe to say that everyone would love a dice graphic (even though that would be time consuming). It is incredibly hard to see them on the board in the video. Yet that aside, great video and commentary and thanks for posting.

Team Covenant's videos and commentary are always awesome! :) One suggestion, though, and that is to overlay dice roll result graphics onto the screen (Like the MNX channel does) - this will make it easier for us to follow.

Yes....Team Covenant does commentary on the 2014 FFG World Championships. Finally...those torpedoes went right down the hole. It just doesn't work unless Steve and Zach say "wwwWOOOWwww!" Keep em coming.

from the commentary they seem to have forgotten or not realized what r2d2 does to the math. once i have no z95s and going han v han if paul has 1 shield still and no hull damage, he will recover a shield all game with no consequences ever unless i go to range 1 and roll 4 hits, which means i die faster. its true my dice stunk, but after my z95s died the only reason to keep rolling was to force paul to keep taking actions and tokens and maybe make a mistake while time runs down. but yes, i did consider going after han instead of the talas. paul and i had already playtested this before worlds though, we both knew what was up. i still think my best chance was to take out his z95s and have some of my own left, and unfortunately theres no way the early game dice were going to make that happen for me.

Ira Mayers It was well-played. The R2 math gets incredibly favorable for Paul. We didn't quite realize at the time how silly R2 makes that entire exchange!

yeah, it was an unfortunate matchup, but we were rooming together and it was all fun :) i have had several people say to me how great it would have been for the two of us to have that game in the finals and i keep saying NO..it would have been super boring and even more sad because with no time limit it would take away the only real chance i had to win that matchup....nobody has thought about that match more than i have probably, and i considered heavily whether going after han at range 1 is a smart play, but we have all seen paul maneuver. even if i could keep him at range 1 and put damage on him (which paul would make very hard). i would have to do it at a much higher ratio (4 hits minimum every round while he only needs 3 on my han) with his z95s breathing down my back. unlikely and failure means the play for time goes out the window. i only had to last another 5-10 minutes to win. a friend of mine is a competitive chess player. once when we were partying in college he bet me 5 dollars a pawn in a game. not only did he beat me, but he did not let me take a single pawn and took every one of my own. it was embarrassing and costly (regardless of how drunk i was) although considering the value of the life lesson well worth the price. anyway the point being that at that level of play, a master of the game who knows the objective and the ins and outs will control the board regardless of how you try to change up the rules. going after the z95s keeps us on an even footing where we can each exert the same control. if i push for han, i give him the advantage of 3 ships with nobody watching them, and if you give a man like paul that advantage, what he can do to you is scary :)

***** i would love just to make the cut again next year. the level of competition is scary. ill definitely be there though for xwing and imperial assault. im still resisting armada. imperial assault really appeals to me both on strategy and on how much it feels like star wars. in xwing vader getting two actions does not feel like vader. in IA vader force choking someone and then swinging his lightsaber around feels a lot more like vader and that is pretty cool. i cannot wait to see boba fett :) but i am definitely going to be at worlds, looking to break my MOV record and break into the paul and doug club. if i have to face paul in the finals, that would be a real treat i think. its always great when you get to play with a friend :)

And R2D2 doesn't hand you a crit, he just flips and existing damage card face up on a 3/8 roll. so Paul is risk free while doing this.

I'd rather see Falcon lists, than Tie Swarms. For awhile, thats all you saw. Now, at least there are counters and even a chance a Rebel swarm with the Headhunters. Each new set, expands the choices.

seriously doubt falcon is ever gonna die down. its an incredibly consistent list, with no real counters, very low focus on manuvring. you just kit it out to maximise the odds in the falcons favour, and let the dice do the work.

no real counters? ask the tons of han players that didn't make the cut about it. han has plenty of counters and against the caliber of player at worlds can easily lose.

pretty sure or sure? some han players lost to other han players (i beat 2 personally), however i saw han players lose to swarms as well and other mixed squads. from personal experience, my toughest matches were against mixed non swarm non han squads and it took careful planning and flying, not dice, to win. dice alone would have lost me those games had i ignored competent flying, and they were still very close games in most cases. corran horn played by Nathan was perhaps my toughest match. He was able to kill a fat chewie in 2 rounds that day. no, i strongly dispute the claim that han has no counters other than han and is the unbeatable behemoth. thats just my opinion based on my own experience though.

Great video as always. I am looking to start doing some local X-wing tournaments. Figured I would watch this to see how fat Han was flown. I have only played my wife and some friends on occasion up to this point but would love some more competitive games. Thats why I'm looking at going to my semi local tournament up here in Maine. Trying to nail down a list and I just feel like rolling with Fat Han is the easy way out. I gotta look at what other lists are popular at this juncture. I have two Falcons and have never really flown them. Thats what attracted me to this list to begin with.

I was sad that this was the game that got recorded out of all my other games, but from my perspective, while it was a bit depressing to know i was going to have the one single match I did not want to have (not because it was Paul, we playtested together, but because I knew my squad mathematically could not beat R2D2 without something miraculous happening), it was a very tense match for me because I knew I would need to make it to the end of the round and win on time and not make a single mistake the entire match if that was going to happen. I knew it would be boring to watch, but it was pretty stressful for me hoping that i could somehow survive but for the most part knowing the whole time that i have virtually no shot at the title at that point.
