Context: I was replying to someone asking about elemental GS being meta-worthy. The following is my response. It isn't enough to only look at raw and element, you also have to take into consideration the sharpness (with and without Handicraft) and deco slots. Take Garangolm, for example. 360 raw with no element and 4-2-1 deco slots. But with no Handicraft, it has blue sharpness (a 1.20x raw multiplier) and it looks like you need Handicraft 3 to get a smidgen of white sharpness (a 1.32x raw multiplier, 10% more than blue). When you compare the modified raw values (360 x 1.20 = 432, 360 x 1.32 = 475.2) to those of the ones shown in the video (350 x 1.39 = 486.5), it becomes evident why Garangolm wasn't chosen, and this raw differential increases the more attack increases you have (Attack Boost, Demondrug, etc.) You can extend that logic to any GS that can't hit purple sharpness. Another example, Tigrex. 350 raw, no element, innate purple sharpness, -15% affinity. But it also only has a 1 deco slot, so you have to ask yourself if you're willing to "waste" the Handicraft levels shown in the above armor sets and give up a level of something like Attack Boost for this weapon. That being said, if you're running a set that does not run Handicraft, this is honestly a fine weapon to choose if you sharpen it frequently enough. Looking at the MVs for GS in MHR, if the patch notes aren't lying to me, the elemental multipliers are not changed from base game. For the sake of making the math a little simpler, let's say you have 500 raw after sharpness and also 30 element. A fully charged TCS (power) has an MV of 264 on its second hit and the element multiplier is 1.80. Let's also be generous with the HZs and say it's 60 sever and 25 element. The amount of physical damage you'll do, after a 1.40x crit, is 500 x 2.64 x 1.40 x 0.60 = 1108.8 sever. The elemental damage will be 30 x 1.80 x 0.25 = 13.5 element. As you can see, that 13.5 element makes up barely over 1.2% of the 1122.3 damage you just dealt to the monster. Element GS builds are for Surge Combo/Leaping Wide Slash builds, since those are multiple fast hits with better element/status multipliers in their MVs. But when you can Strongarm Stance to get a 35% bonus damage buff on your next Charged Slash, it totally blows element and status GS builds out of the water in terms of raw performance (pun unintended). It just so happens that the weapons TDS chose here have element on them because the weapons they're attached to have good raw, sharpness, deco slots, and manageable affinity.

Regarding the Squire's Belt, the "squire" set is unlocked specifically with the two quests: "An Audience With The Queen" and "Flicker In The Night". Chichae: Follower Collab Quests > Follower Quests. The two quests are unlocked by talking to Dame beside the admiral. This guide does a good job telling us that two follower quests are required, both we are accompanied by Dame and even hovers over the specific two. I've still had friends ask me after I linked them this for their GS builds and I figured it's a few details not super clarified, although I will say this video did a good enough job and was apt. I'm not going to say people are stupid ect... that's not truly fair, but these details are hard to miss unless you care about these quests ect or are glossing over the video. Funnily enough it can be hard to get a good answer on some niche info regarding any game, even in 2022 when the internet is at an all time peak. Maybe other people posted the exact same thing, that's fine, I'm not doing it for likes ect. I just felt a bit compelled to say this in case people get stuck.

I think the diablos greatsword should get a mention, being the strongest GS in the game (at white shrpness its beats out the 350 GSes at purple) assuming equal affinity 370*1.32 > 350*1.39 and the same stays true after we account for power talon+charm; 385*1.32 > 365*1.39 now the diablos GS has -25 affinity and no decoration slots, which is worse than all of the listed candidates - but we can make up for this with maximum might (MM). I haven't done any testing to see how viable MM is with shoulder bash -> TCS, but Hysteria/Strongarm Stance does not consume any stamina to use. taking this into account the following set is possible to get the diablos GS up to 100 affinity in rousing roar: (with the same 2/2/- charm used in the video) Critical EyeLv7 Attack BoostLv4 Weakness ExploitLv3 Critical BoostLv3 Offensive GuardLv3 Stun ResistanceLv3 Maximum MightLv2 Flinch FreeLv1 Wirebug WhispererLv1 Quick SheatheLv1 With 2 points of MM we are left at 85 affinity this will out-EFR both AB4 sets slightly (both in and out of rousing roar), but will fall short of the Goss' AB5 set. However, at AB5, the diablos GS will be stronger than the Goss GS. The point I am trying to make is that affinity can only scale up to 100, which means higher raw*sharpness values become more important. Sure you can build a set with more EFR fiending skills for the other weapons since the 350 raw GSes have slots, but I think the humble horn on a stick deserves some love too :)

You absolutely want purple sharpness. Comparing 370 white with 350 purple, the two break even just above +27 raw (397 x 1.32 = 524.04, 377 x 1.39 = 524.03), and that's genuinely not a difficult number to reach. If we combine Powercharm +6, Powertalon +9, Demondrug +5, and Attack Boost 4 +7, that's already +27 raw, and if we add anything like Dango Booster, Might Seed, Demon Powder, Spiribirds, Resentment, Chain Crit, etc., 350 with purple sharpness comes out ahead in pure raw attack.
@coolgabe5552 жыл бұрын
@@Magmyte takes a bit of work to get handicraft to the point it gets purple sharpness and decent affinity. It can work but you need a really good charm to make it 100% effective. Blade of Tartarus might be an easier alternative though same handicraft issue but the affinity is better and you don't lose much raw.

@@coolgabe555 When you slot in five levels of Handicraft to get a comfortable amount of purple, you're also paying the opportunity cost of other skills that could've been slotted in instead. Also, 3 slots don't come easy, especially when Offensive Guard is also competing for them. As an addendum, -25% affinity is really not optimal. The magic number here is 70% affinity, and Critical Eye 7 + WEX 3 brings -25% to 65% affinity, which is just short, which costs another deco slot. So yes, I'd much more readily recommend the Tigrex and bone GSs before I recommend Diablos.

So.. is this only for DB and GS or is Elemental Dmg "meta-worthy" again? (Maybe its just "random", that those best weapons have elemental dmg too, so I am just dumb - but would like to know, if ele-dmg is good in sb or not) Since in my experiences in World/Iceborne elemental damage was simply not good at all, not worth it to go with it, since pure raw dmg was the better choice. And in base Rise that was the same or even "worse", so that raw dmg (again) was the best choice by far. Does that got changed that much? Hoping for good answers :)

I have the same question
@Magmyte2 жыл бұрын

@@Magmyte Sorry for not being clear enough there. My question wasn't only about GS. It was more like "is elemental worth it now (at some weapons) where it was not before. since with sunbreak elemental dmg got buffed at least a little bit. I know its more useful, if the weapon does many and fast hits, like DB for example. So maybe its ok or good for LS now but for my Hammer as example not? xd But thanks for that really good answer!
@Magmyte2 жыл бұрын
@@tikurai4970 Mild disclaimer: Of the ~1000 hunts I have in World, about 666 of them are with GS, and every single one of the 400+ hunts I have in Rise is with the GS. I don't know what the MVs and element multipliers are like for other weapons, but it's reasonable enough to assume that with the way elements/statuses are applied to weapon hits (a flat amount times the element multiplier on every hit), weapons that hit fast or many times will naturally want more element than weapons that are slower. That's why raw DB and Bow builds in World/IB were severely outclassed by elemental weakness builds, and building for element on something like Hammer or GS only gave tiny returns, and I don't think that's changed much in Rise/SB. If Sacred Sheath is the way to play LS at the moment, with the three hit high damage attack, it's likely LS will also be dominated by raw. For other weapons that are in between, I believe it's a case-by-case basis. I recall Kjarr Ice CB SAED style being insane against a monster like Diablos with high ice HZs across the body, because the phials did ice damage, but even though Zinogre had a "three star" weakness to ice, it had much poorer and smaller ice HZs, so the better option against Zinogre was Savage Axe style with impact phials and a raw CB. The same philosophy likely applies to Rise/SB.

Ok now I’m confused after ragegaming’s GS build which is very potent, who’s actually done the math on this one right? cause one’s saying it’s the kamura cleaver for max dmg then theres this vid which is between 3 of them. looks like I got some messing around to do to figure out which I get more damage out of. Then again I could say screw it and have a load of different build cause why not.
@arachbae47772 жыл бұрын
These guys are using a template build and charm. IF Rage did their math right (don't watch their stuff anyways so Idk) then it's very possible they are using a min maxed set with a god charm which allows you to replace xxx sets in this build.
@darkwolf96372 жыл бұрын
@@arachbae4777 rage gaming's build was done specifically with no charm so its set is much more focused on gear pieces with good deco slots it also had a focus on " a comfortable amount of purple without handicraft" which according to the video was considered 20-30 hits the kamura cleaver has both better purple and good deco slots. I'd like some damage numbers in the video. For rage gamings video they hit a 7,000 and something on a bazel and so far using the same build but with an attack boost 3 talisman the highest I've hit is 6,021

The only thing I don't like about Blood Rite and why I probably wont use it is I tend to gravitate towards parts I haven't already broken in order to break them and get more mats. this means I'm not going to be getting the most out of the skill unless I'm exclusively speed running and breaking probably just the head, in which case I'd rather just go for damage skills than survival skills.

Wouldnt it be better to use the fine kamura cleaver for the comf-dmg build since it has 330 damage, decent purple sharpness (enough until the monster flees usually) and its got a level 4, 2, 2 deco slot?

@Team DarkSide How did you end up with Offensive Guard 3 with the build shown for Fire/Water/Ice? The Squire's Belt only gives one level of Offensive Guard, and you say to slot in 1 Guardian (Offensive Guard) decoration, which brings it to level 2. Any help is very much appreciated.

I definitely agree with your take on Dereliction. I feel like I could pull off using with Dereliction in multiplayer is Sword and Shield with evade extender 3 since you are evasive enough to just keep legging it to chug potions until a part is broken, but even then the risk of carting in a bad situation is too high for it to make sense to include it in recommended builds for general use.
@jamesmaleedy50172 жыл бұрын
You can do some serious shenanigans with bloodlust for 20 affinity + coalesance and also use deriliction with GS as long as you and your buds don't mind being a bit of a cart terrorist or you just get good enough at the Mons it's not too much of an issue.
@DeMause2 жыл бұрын

Any thoughts on the Ibushi GS for Dragon? You don't need Handicraft for it - in fact, it's a BAD idea to use it, since the Ibushi weapons all benefit greatly from the Grinder (S) skill. They not only has natural purple, but DON'T have white, so as soon as it drops to blue, you can sharpen it to get a boost to your raw for 30, 60 or 90 seconds depending on ranks.

How much damage input does the new charge elemental attack skill does? Not enough to be worth it? I mean if we are using an element GS might as well work? The one from the first lord armor set forgot the name sorry
@TheLuggi842 жыл бұрын
It's not the element that is important here. The chosen swords just have good raw, sharpness and/or slots. It's just that they also got an element. They weren't picked BECAUSE of the element.
@lionmaindgaming10272 жыл бұрын
@@TheLuggi84 yeah I know that, the question is not why they where choosed as best GS, the question was if that skill that rise element/status attack on charged attacks would be relevant for the damage input of a GS since it has an element to it, pretty sure it doesn't honestly but was curious.
@phiavir55942 жыл бұрын
I never go into the numbers much but I'm pretty sure those weapons using handicraft are offset by wasting slots you'd otherwise get attack 7 on, say, the furious rajang GS. Half decent charms with it can get att 7, and probably 4 resentment which boosts strongarm damage even further
@arshadzaidi46672 жыл бұрын
Most of the handicraft comes from the Kushala chest piece. You're right that a half decent charm could get attack 7, but in the video they said they were using charms that only had 2 lvl 2 slots. If they were using actual charms, they'd also be at 100% affinity via max might and they'd have 5-7 lvls of attack depending on how good the charm is.
