btw in my opinion the perfomance of the low elo companion will be better in a closed map. this one was difficult to wall off so he got raided pretty hard

The low elo player was also kinda dead weight. Just a tiny bit not pulling his weight. He had like full platoons of pikemen and other units just sitting there while Hera was slowly getting pushed back at middle. It's not a bad play but, if the team mate was slightly more proactive with those units, Hera could have maintained middle. This gameplay does show that it can be dead set even and make for an epic game with the right elo player as a team mate.

Considering how close this game was, I think we can say that the first big Hussar raid by Xardas (red) won the game, where Hera lost like 20~30 villagers. Hard to notice that when fighting all around the center at the same time against multiple players, so it just goes to show: don't rely on garrisoning town centers to defend your eco in Imperial! Even if you only get palisades, wall your base. Hussars can break it, but since units don't auto-attack walls, your enemy has to click on the wall each time they get in, and you only have to repair a small section of wall. The warning you get gives you more time to react than a warning from hussars attacking farmers. Trebuchets would actually be a good way to counter the scorpions: as long as you have walls around them. Having to keep a big mass of halberdiers in front of your trebuchets, in case enemy pushes with pikemen or tries to snipe with cavalry, is a loss when you're down 600 pop. Trebuchets can shoot at enemy trebs attacking the castle and can also shoot scorpions that get close. You should think of any time one of your trebuchets gets hit by a melee unit as a loss: a trebuchet is 400 resources; a palisade wall is 3 wood and has more HP than the trebuchet.

but trebs would take forever to destroy all those scorpions that can move anyway. I thought maybe the Ethiopian onagers with their tech should do the job but seemed like the other guy didn't even have resources for Arbalesters at the time.

@@kickgreven3921 Castles still outrange scorpions, and since trebs have 1 melee armor they take only 1 damage from scorpions (unlike units with bonus damage vs rams, like Galleons, where trebs take more damage than siege rams that have 2 ram armor). You could kill trebs with scorpions, just like you can with skirmishers, but it wouldn't be nearly as cheap as killing unwalled trebs with cavalry. Ideally, you just stall out the scorpions while you raid like Hera did (and wait for your ally to get stronger). The problem was that while raiding, he was losing castles and therefore middle control. Edit: the counter to this is probably a siege tower to protect the ranged units you use to snipe the trebuchet, since siege towers block castle arrows fired at units behind the siege tower, but no one would think of that.

Trebs (especially when underneath a castle) are a good counter to scorpions, if a bit unwieldy. It is a one-shot versus 150 shots (though Khmer's UT means it would be more like 75 shots). Accuracy is a bit of an issue, but with that many scorpions out there, you'll probably hit one (even if it isn't the one you're aiming at). If the numbers go down low enough that misses are more probable, than the numbers are low enough that cavalry would be able to take care of the remaining scorpions. My main experience with trebs versus Scorpions is a few Roman mirror matches, where a scorpion mass is killer (because trebs and castles are the only counter to a scorpion mass). Scorpions can still take out trebs, but it takes some time. And if the treb is underneath a castle, the scorpions are better off fleeing. So long as the treb takes out 3 scorpions, it has dealt more damage than it costed. Though the fact that trebs need castles still isn't ideal. Still, in a pinch (which was the case in this game), trebs are solid against scorpions.
