FrostIclyn I think there is no real answer to this question since he hasn't been shown to be able to use it in the source material (the manga. Dunno about the anime though). The closest I could think of is that he knows it because of Goku being a witness. Though even then Roshi has only been shown to be able to make his opponent fall asleep, not experience an Illusion. In the end, the best answer would propably be "because dark humor".

Well Gohan did get a lot stronger when he became Ultimate or Mystic Gohan, but he inherited his dad’s tendency to drop his guard and get drunk on his own power. But if you pay attention to him after Piccolo finished retraining him for the Tournament of Power he finally perfected himself. He didn’t get too cocky, he showed his leadership skills payed off when people listened to him and whenever he was fighting he fought to as Piccolo told him to do “Close The Deal”. So as long as he doesn’t get screwed over by Toriyama again he will actually one day catch up with Vegeta and Goku.

Yeah... Dragonball is really missing that feeling of the characters being in a hopeless situation. Even with the idea of a tournament where the losing universes are erased, you know the prize is the super dragonballs, and you know (or at least thought) that somehow Goku was going to win, and thus everything would be fixed. This is why my favorite arc is the Freeza arc, because there was a moment when there almost weren't dragonballs anymore. Piccolo and Kame were dead and Guru was dying, and everyone was fighting against a seemingly unbeatable foe with seemingly nobody even at his level of power. Cell is second to that, seeming to be unbeatable, but you know they have dragonballs to fix the bad that happens, on Namek if not on Earth. And even Cell seeming to be unbeatable was because of the characters fucking around and letting him become that powerful. All the other villains seem very beatable after that. The tournament of power comes the closest after Cell to seeming hopeless, but... There's just so many factors that distract from that and make it just a really awesome fight with no real stakes... aside from that one universe... You all know the one I'm talking about.
