Love this series, one of the biggest challenges I've had over the years, whether FWD, AWD or RWD is transferring things I could do in the dirt over to asphalt, it genuinely takes some nuts to make it happen with more grip factored in because speed just ramps up to achieve the same traction balance.

I agree, maybe starting with rwd with locked diff and/or shitty tires would help so you can do it with lower speeds but same dynamics

That stuff can be difficult to execute on a low-traction surface! Really like the play between the drivers. Seeing pros finding it challenging speaks volumes about how hard it can be!

I have a 17' wrx and would love to do this kind of stuff but I'm worried of blowing the diff. The main thing is flat spots and uneven tire wear will kill the AWD system and I was wondering how likely is it to completely detonate your car from just trying this stuff out every month or so for 30ish minutes so that the car can naturally wear the tires even again.

You should do a gymkhana build on a WRX, nothing outlandish, keep it affordable with some power and suspension mods.

In your will it rally series you have traction and ABS fuses pulled, same in this series or just traction control off for asphalt? Thanks guys!! Awesome series!!

Question: You mentioned in an earlier video to be successful with a gravel pendulum it was necessary to disable ABS; -do you have the ABS fuse pulled? Also curious if it's better running this in track mode or with the VDC completely disabled As always, love these vids!

@@Teamoneilrally bosch(i.e. most OEM) ABS modules use the abs module to do EBD(brake distribution). I've experienced heavy overbraking on my rear axle with the fuse pulled. Pulling out the ABS speed sensor plug will allow your ABS module to do brake distribution but remain inactive.

i own a '23 wrx and i use it as my daily driver to and from work everyday! did you do anything to the gymkhana wrx in the videos in prep for this series? do you think that a daily can be used at the same time as a weekend funtime car? what would be needed for a car to be used as both a daily and a part time fun time car?
@billyjohnsen4544

Have a '22, daily and weekend abuse. I wouldn't really recommend it. The struggle of doing both is really starting to show, although that may be the added power making things worse lmao

I hated it on mine initially, but it has grown on me, and i DO see the usefullness now. All the cones i hit at autocross and rally, and all the rocks on back roads don't destroy my car.

It’s nice to have if you’re driving on gravel. You don’t destroy the paint around the wheel wells because there is no paint

My car would break. I've had 2 trans rebuilds, clutch and clutch fork and another throwout bearing. The trans and clutch are garbage. I need an STI trans swap bad. Not to mention the brakes needed pads after a few months. OEM pads are horrible.

Not an easy one! Having trouble with right foot braking surprised me. Guess lots of automatics in his life.
@SteveHarrellRally
@SteveHarrellRally Ай бұрын
Not automatics. Rally drivers, especially FWD rally drivers like Chris, primarily brake with the left foot. Maintaining throttle and adding brake is the best way to initiate weight transfer and get the back of the car to rotate while not losing speed.
