This tutorial was actually my gate way into Cry of Fear. I was watching old Jerma and Star_ videos and came across their Cry of Fear Co-Op play through. It made me want to try a game with a friend for nostalgic reasons. I always really, really loved the art direction of the game and wanted to try it. After we played the Co-OP campaign, I decided to try the single player. That changed my life for the better I think. Maybe it seems silly to some, but I got a message from Cry of Fear that really helped me reframe my own personal struggles through the game play in particular. Maybe it was me reading too much into the meaning of the game, but it either way, it's helped me immensely. I've probably left many comments in this same vein on this channel, but big thanks to the devs, you made something genuinely legendary. A total masterclass in psychological horror.

that's not silly at all, every story can touches our feelings in many different ways. it's all an experience that has you invested in it in some ways, wheter if it's good or bad. sometimes it can give us a tips, hints or even some form of way to look at life in many different ways too, like how you said it helps you through the tough times of yours :)

Guys, if you are getting the "cannot join, retrying" error message (or something like that), the host has to start the campaign first, not wait in the "coop-lobby thing"

we used hamachi all the time to play the co-op was fun, and everyone had a good laugh at the others dying from Tallers, Sawcrazys, Fasters, heck even those weird ass tentacle things at the bridge map good times

if you can port forward just forward the 27014 - 27016 port on TCP - UDP. When in game make sure you disable lan and then get your friends to either join through steam if it works, or connect using your public ip in the console (example: "connect "). After that, you should be able to play without the use of hamachi and since pretty much every valve game uses the same ports which means you can skip to just disabling lan and joining either through steam or your public ip if you host a server. (obviously, most of the same troubleshooting techniques seen in the video can be used to test if others cant connect.)

if you are using windows vista/7, you have to restart your system, spam f8 after bios splash screen and go to "disable driver enforcement" every time you are going to use hamachi

None of the troubleshooting helped me solve the problem that my friend has when joining, when he tries to connect using the console, (and putting the Hamachi IPV4 address) it keeps trying to connect and it says retrying until eventually it stops. If anybody can reply with help, i'd thank.

Got everything working, and the one major problem is needing to use "gl_renderer 0". Lighting looks odd and literally any dark area makes the game unplayable. Which is like almost every map. Tried many things like the compatability and changing those settings (run admin, fullscreen opt, high dpi), the firewall, the 64bit patch, the long string command that you need to put into the console that makes the game look like fullbright, verifying files, portforwarding, sv_lan 0. Using Hamachi, radmin, or portforwarding works, but the game will crash after the camera pans to the cops waiting at simon's house if I leave the command "gl_renderer 1". If I load a different level, while leaving the command on it will just be a black screen. Might be because I'm on Windows 11 since it ran fine on Windows 10 but that was two years ago. It also might be the anniversary update they did to half life, but I'm not sure. The campaign works fine, and it seems to be an issue just for coop.

It does not work. Password failed Edit: it finally worked. After 3.6 hours we managed to make the game work. Turns out the game saved the password settings from the last time we tried and uninstalled, 4 months ago. If you use the console to connect to ip it will not work, just join your friends from steam and you are good to go. Not even that wacky program that allows you to search for servers works. I don't know what kind of black magic we managed to pull out on this one.

Hey, i've tried this w/ encryption, w/o encryption, w/ firewall off, w/ firewall exceptions, inputting sv_lan 0 in the console, not inputting it, checking the "lan sever" option in the host options, not doing so, using a port such as "27015" or "27020", not doing so, creating the server before turning on hamachi, creating the server after, etc. absolutely nothing seems to work. Me and my friends really made sure to not do anything differently than stated in the video, yet we can't get this to work at all. Has anything changed considerably since this upload?

I found a new way just host a lobby with no password then your friend pushes shift+tab then he goes to ur name in his friends list then push Join Game.
