New cards are designed to only work in a very specific way to prevent weird OTK strategies with old cards but back when cards had very general effects, anytime someone pulled off combos like this it was so much hype and even though the cards are simpler, it feels way smarter to pull this off than a 20 minute link summoning turn that just works on its own by you clicking "yes" to every effect prompt and not even reading the cards

Pegasus’ use of the Millennium Eye would prevent Solomon’s Exodia strategy to come to fruition. By itself, Pegasus would ascertain of what pieces are in the hand and would work around them. All Pegasus has to do is “fine-Toon” his Toon Deck around Exodia and would exploit it.

To be honest, Grandpa's deck is far better than Kaiba's. There's a consistent strategy (which you never really used till the end), which is getting the 4 normal pieces of Exodia in the grave and adding then back with backup soldier, while Kaiba only summons monsters with high ATK. I bet Grandpa would win 9/10 of the games

Nah let's be real Kaiba's deck is objectively better. It's not just plot armor. If anything it's yugi who has plot armor against Kaiba. Case in point: blue-eyes magically self-destructing when he was losing and the absurd magical arrow shenanigans in the third duel. Even the battle city duel he only won because of lol-friendship plot twists. Yugi would actually lose every single game he's ever played against Kaiba if he wasn't literally the main character.

You know I used to be impressed at Kaiba's briefcase full of cards until I suddenly realized something: they're all freebie drops in the games or commons! At least in episode 1 I mean, in Battle City Arc I think it had stuff that hadn't yet become canon yet like De-Poly and several SR original cards but that episode one case was actually a terrible deal unless the UR stuff was on the bottom! XD Either that or rarities in Yugioh were weirder than we thought in anime canon.

Yeah, originally in the anime, since you can summon any monster without tribute, star/level only decide how rare a monster card is, which is why we get lotsa big level monsters with poor stats, BEWD being this Ultra Rare card ofc still makes sense since it's 8 stars (The highest stars at the time) with good stats to back it up.

It's not really "Kaiba's BS rules". It's Pegasus' ruleset. In universe, Kaiba start by playing using Pegasus' ruleset (in particular it's the ruleset used for Pegasus' tournament on the island), but then he creates his own ruleset for his "Battle city" tournament where you now need to tribute monsters. IRL, the story about Kaiba adding the tribute rules was published roughly at the same time as the tribute rules were added to the IRL ruleset.

I believe the original explanation was that the virtual reality sort of tricked the brain into really thinking they were taking damage (sooooo real!!!!) so grandpa lost more by the shock of it than anything, also they weren't playing by the original rules, Kaiba could summon his BEWD at any given time
