Teamsters put in the hard work to make the beer at Molson Coors.
“When COVID hit, all of us stayed working. A lot of us got sick. We even had an employee who died. But we kept working. And the whole time we were working, the company made a lot of profit,” said Jeff Pruitt, a member of Teamsters Local 997 in Fort Worth, Texas.
What happened to that profit? Molson Coors announced this week the company saw its highest earnings in 19 years-more than executives even expected. But they’re not sharing these profits with the workers.
“All we are asking for is our fair share. It’s not even about being rewarded; it’s something owed to us. We all work hard and need to take care of our families. We’re just fighting for our just cause,” Pruitt said.
Pruitt is among the 420 members of Local 997 who are fighting for higher pay and health care and retirement improvements in a new contract. Teamsters voted by 93 percent to authorize a strike if Molson Coors does not come to terms on a fair agreement.
