Genuinely the best video I’ve ever seen on the waiver process. I need a waiver for anxiety, depression, and ADD. Went through everything that he mentioned. Just finished that last step I needed of the consultation, and it went well, Meps agreed. Just put through for the waiver, waiting on the results. Edit: My waiver got approved after 1 year and 5 months of waiting. Trust the process, this video actually has more knowledge on the process than most recruiters.

I went MEPs and I’m greatly discouraged. It took 3 months to pass a drug test. I scored a 67 on the ASVAB and have 75 credits towards my bachelors. I have disqualifications for ADHD and Prozac for depression, something with my hip, and An IEP. I haven’t taken my Prozac or adhd for a year in half. Come may 2024 I wouldn’t have gotten a refill for 24months. I do believe I was misdiagnosed because I stopped using it 2 months after receiving it. It gave me headaches and made me overwhelmed. As for the IEP my mom and counselor kept me on it against my wishes for college assistance. I was A & B grades for a little of sophomore, junior, and Senior year. I went into college unassisted because I truly didn’t feel like I needed it. My hip disqualification literally says it doesn’t affect my running or working out. I’m worried I won’t make it.

You’ll most likely be told you’ll have to wait until 36mo of completing your latest prescription and the rest of the tips and advice are within the video above. For IEP/504 Plan, obtain those records and I’d def recommend getting a letter from the school and college that you stopped using it, etc… obtain a letter from a former high school teacher, college professor and a current or former supervisor on how you performed, acted, worked, etc… They’ll be your character reference letters providing the Surgeon General at total applicant concept. Good luck on your waiver and may the waiver gods forever be in your favor!

Thank you for this video seriously, it was beyond helpful and reading other's comments on this is highly encouraging, this was a really in demand topic that needed to be discussed by what I see in the comments. I went to USCG basic at 27 y/o in hopes to join reserves and made it through 4 weeks before a discharge, I was told I could try to reenlist after a year free of anxiety symptoms. I'm looking into going through the process again in August of this year and contacting an Army recruiter. One thing I'll also add for anyone going, don't underestimate the conditions you will be in there, you will likely get ill with a respiratory infection (everyone including myself did when I went) and it sucks in conjunction with everything else they throw at you at basic. Be physically prepared and memorize as much as possible before you get off that bus. Good luck to everyone with your journey.

I have very little faith mine will get approved I had an old diagnosis of PTSD no self harm no SI/hospitalization been off meds for 3 years it’s my biggest hurdle I did get a written letter from my new psychologist also saying I don’t qualify for ptsd, depression, or anxiety and that in her opinion I’m more than capable of handling the challenges/stressors of the military. I was processing approved for MEPS and I’m going next week. Ultimately I know meps is there to deny you for whatever they can which honestly worries me the most because this has been what I’ve wanted to do all my life and I’ve worked extremely hard to get to even this point. This was really interesting I was actually reading about the accurate portrayal of basic training in Hollywood movies, then I was reading an article on it, and that ultimately led me to find many videos on KZbin about it. I love learning things, and also what recruits can expect to experience in basic training. I'm not in the military myself, I have thought about joining the army, and I would go in a heartbeat if they would take me. But unfortunately I probably wouldn't qualify for many reasons(I'm 35, I have 1 felony on my record got in trouble over 10 years ago, history of mental illness, and no high school diploma or GED) But anyways thank you for the video good sir you are awesome, and blessings to everyone and thanks to all for your amazing service🥰

I went to meps a couple months ago and I was very discouraged to discover due to Genesis my past medical history disqualified me to enlist and I require multiple waivers. I was diagnosed with autoimmune disease when I was 12 and been on medications since up to a year ago. Now I’m in the best shape of my life and medication free for a year, I lift heavy weights and run distance races to keep me going strong. I would just hate to go through such a long process with such a long past medical history and still be denied due to it. I’ve been heavily looking into all aspects of the military to see if it would personally be a good fit for my life so I still have tons of research to do still. Please Wish me the best of luck!! 🤞🏾💪🏾

I’d say with updated testing, evaluations from those specialists and obtaining some sort of all clear let you might have a shot. If denied, wait and try after the 2 and 3 yr anniversary of the date you got off medication. Get updated evaluations and testing done at those times to be reconsidered to appeal the medical waiver. Also, after 2yrs you’ll also be required to redo the meps medical exam for testing and medical exams are only good for two years. I had a surgery many years ago. It's a condition called hyperhydrosis. My hands, armpits, and feet used to sweat a lot. The surgery was simple enough. There are two staples on each side of my chest blocking the sweat glands in my hands and armpits. I'll need a waiver for that. As an unintended side effect of the surgery the rest of my body sweats now. I recently got prescribed a drug that slightly helps. They prescribed me something that helps mentally disabled people to drool less. I'll need a waiver for that too. I could do fine without the medication at boot camp though, people will just probably think to themselves, "wtf??" When they see that it looks like I pissed my pants due to sweating too much. It's embarassing, not disabling. If I'm able to drink water a reasonable amount I think I'll do very well at boot camp. I'm in good shape and workout. Most people never met anyone quite like me... could you possibly tell me if there's anything I can do for these 2 waivers I'll need? And frankly I'll need a few more waivers too... I need this to be approved. My life is a disaster rn.

I went to meps and I passed everything except the genesis. Doctor said I had took adhd medication which means I might’ve had an IEP. I graduated in 2018 and yes I did have an IEP but it wasn’t for accommodations like extra test time or anything. It was simple check in’s to see how I’m doing in class and if there was any changes that needed to be done. Like if I wasn’t going to class or if I was failing a class. I admit I did ditch class a couple of times but from what I’ve experienced a lot of kids did/do that. It doesn’t make it right but it’s common. I own it though and can admit it wasn’t the best decision. That’s all I can remember from my IEPs really I mean it’ll say something’s in there about my past but itll also say how I’ve grown significantly and even graduated with a normal diploma. I turned in all my paper work along with my mangers letter. I didn’t do school because I really don’t know what I want to major in or if I really want to do school again. But I turned in my evaluation stating that adhd Isn’t something that affects my life anymore and that I’ve been off medication for over 6 yrs along with being stable all together. My pharmacy papers along with a letter stating I haven’t received medication from them in over 4 yrs . And my transcripts with my IEP paperwork. I haven’t heard that I’ve been DQ’d and my recruiter says that everything should be fine because I haven’t been on medication in over 6 yrs along with my diploma being a regular HS diploma . Do you think I have a low or high/mid possibility of joining? I’m 24 btw so I’ve lived some life and I can honestly say I’m not the same person I was when I was highschool/18. It’s possible based on what you’ve shared and can be backed up by your paperwork. If you had good grades reflected on your official high school/college transcripts, zero behavioral issues at the schools Dean Office, updated mental health and behavioral health assessments… you could possibly get an approval for your medical waiver. You’ll need strong character references from teachers, coaches, employers, colleagues, etc… Good luck on your waiver and may the waiver gods forever be in your favor! Ah seems like I’m done for. I wanted to become a pilot originally and had to submit all my records regarding ADHD. I failed the neurophysiological exam for impulsivity and executive set switching and can’t become a pilot unless I wanna pay $2700 out of pocket for a re test. So my back up plan was airforce. Here I am going down the rabbit hole. Unless I can prove I was pretty much undiagnosed for adhd I can already predict I’m DQ’d.

You’re probably not aware that serving in the U.S. Military can be and will be a stressful environment and at times extremely stressful. If you’re already prone to depression and to the point you’ve self harmed yourself over the type of stress you’re subjected to as a regular civilian… some time has to pass in order for the respective branch of service and DOD/Dept of Defense to feel as comfortable as they can to approve your medical history and consideration for a medical waiver in hopes that your military experience won’t trigger you and push you back into a situation less than ideal and detrimental to your mental health. These are those unfortunate situations where MHS Genesis isn’t as good as what we’d like. Unless it’s you requesting your records, due to HIPAA Laws, they aren’t allowed to give your records out. You’ll have to phone each hospital asking for records under your info and request it through their protocol. If no records are found after finding the correct location, a letter on official letter head from the records dept must give you that letter for MEPS. If this happens, decreases the warm and fuzzy for the MEPS CMO/Surgeon General. I’d get a hand written letter including as many details as possible from mom explaining the injury, surgery and recovery. Also follow the tips for updated evaluations and testing for that injury. Good luck on your waiver and may the waiver gods forever be in your favor! Thank you so very much for watching this video and I hope you stay blessed! 🇺🇸🙏🏼

Hey, Sgt. Swartz. This was a really informative video. When I was in Army basic training, I had a pulmonary test done for asthma and was discharged. My papers had a re-entry code that if I try to enlist again, I would need a waiver. I had a pulmonary test done prior to joining, but I was told that if I wanted to try again I needed a new test done even though my doctor told me I was clear. I want to know if it's the end of the road for me, or it's possible (if difficult) to come back with more recent results, even if it's for another branch. You're doing awesome work on your channel. If I go through 15 months without treatment and be honest on why I was depressed which is bc I broke my back rodeoing and lost rodeo. It stopped when I was able to get out of the house and start doing stuff again such as hiking and hunting and being able to go fishing again, as well as being able to help around the house again and the list goes on and on . Guitar and hiking as well as regular excerise helped me feel better and finding God as well and helping others out. My support system is my some of my co workers and my dad as well as some friends and my coping mechanisms are playing guitar hiking in the country behind my house with my dog. Do you think I will be approved, I hope I am my grandpa and great grandpa and great great grandpa were marines my cousin is in Marsoc as a dog handler and I’m part native America so my ancestors were always warriors. It included all my medical documents of recent, clearing letter, and even mentioned other things as proactively going to the gym and working out at home. I was discharged with low grade osteopenia during BCT and was told I could go back in. Today, my waiver got denied because it still shows I have low grade osteopenia on genesis. I’m not really sure on what to do for my next steps. My recruiter told me there wasn’t much he could do and apologized for wasting my time. Is it worth trying a different recruiter and seeing if they’ll be able to help more than my previous recruiter? Or do you think it’ll be better to try a different branch than ARMY to see if results with change?

What’s up Team Swartz, so I got a odd one. My mother was very abusive and she got real violent so I called the cops which turned into my mom saying I was crazy and on drugs (which was later proven false by the hospital drug tests), which in turn made the cops take me to the hospital. My mom tried putting me in a mental hospital for intoxication but they wouldn’t because my tests came back negative so she told them I was planning to kill myself which they took serious. After going to the mental facility they told me I wasn’t crazy or suicidal and needed to go home. Once I was discharged I started staying with my dad and all my depression and anxiety went away and I’ve never had symptoms. (Btw I’ve never been suicidal or self harmed). Also I got put on antidepressants around September of 2022 and my prescription was cancelled around June of 2023. What are my odds? Also I went to a military school for high school and was in JROTC just wondering if that helps my case at all

This was extremely helpful, I do have a few questions for you. May of 2022 I got the Nexplanon arm implant birth control and had crazy mood swings, I talked to my primary care physician and he diagnosed me with depression and prescribed Zoloft (25mg) in June of 2022. I took the Zoloft for 4 months and the last time I picked up the perscription was November of 2022. I've been off of the medication for over 8 months now and I feel amazing, Ive adjusted to the hormones from the birth control and have no problems whatsoever. I was never suicidal or had any self harm problems, I just never experienced mood swings like that before and didn't think about the possibility of the birth control causing it. Would I be able to pass through MEPS with those records? I have my heart set on the airforce and want to start my journey as soon as I can. I also have another issue, In march of this year I had some sort of illness and was congested and coughing for about a month and a half, did a virtual visit with my physicians assistant and he prescribed me an inhaler, I have medical notes from my doctor stating "upper respiratory infection has resolved, was given an inhaler and has not used need the medication." Would I need a waiver for that as well? I was never diagnosed with asthma or anything of that sort. Sorry for the long comment and multiple questions I just can't find a direct answer on google. I take my ASVAB on Tuesday and will see my recruiter so I will also talk to him about it, I just know that some recruiters don't want to put in the work to get all of the waivers that are needed.

Now about to retire after 25 years and found on the army career website and engineering officer position for direct commission up to age 51, without waiver(I am 48). I did have a bicep surgery due on duty crash years ago but released to full duty without restriction. Also have slight elevated blood pressure due job, I am fit and pass our physical standards without problems. Any suggestions to get a good look a this position as this would be my last chance.

With something like mhs genesis, I’m doubting the capabilities of the military. I just got denied at Meps and they wouldn’t even tell me why. I passed the Asvab with an 87 and I even passed the EDPT. Honestly the experience really sucks. I’ve been pushing myself physically to the next level, I can pass Boot camp right now. I want to serve but I’m being told I can’t. Now I’m second guessing risking my life for the military

I messed up my future with the military by going into USMC and regretting it. I didn’t want to ship and they threatened me with jail time if I didn’t show up to bootcamp. I did and unfortunately I told them I was suicidal and was taken to the hospital over the weekend before I was separated. (Medical honorable re:3p)… I regret this wholeheartedly and my mistake was trying to join the army afterwards, I was denied because it was way too much BS and too soon. This was 8 years ago. I was told I’d have to get psych eval and cleared by my doctor. Midway through I gave up because I was trying to buy a house and I did. I’m going to give it one last try because I want to serve my country the right way. This really has been messing with me

Hello, I’m 23 years old now, Not meeting a recruiter as of yet. But I’m planning on wanting to enlist in the Marines and want to choose either infantry or like military police. I’m trying so hard on doing a lot of research and things about meps and the whole medical thing. I’m kinda autistic but eventually grew out of it, I got depressed at 17 years and got over it by doing positive activities like Martial arts and exercising. I had to take antibiotics at 14 to almost 15 years old due to have acne breakouts and so forth, I’m not any medication or nothing anymore. I’m wanting to talk to a recruiter soon about getting some waivers for the things and always get super nervous and doubts to ever try hard on wanting to join. I always wanted to join so bad, trying to work hard on doing anything I can to pass and be able to get into the Marines. Wish me luck and thank you for sharing some of the tips in this video.

I got disqualified from meps about a week ago for suicidal thoughts in 2022. I had diagnosed depression and anxiety, took general anti-depressants for about three years and did therapy for like four. I got off of the meds four years ago, and the mental illness diagnoses were cleared before I went to meps. I know the army is a little more relaxed on it's mental health restrictions, if I were to enlist in the army do you think I'd get in? Suicidal thoughts was 24 months ago and that's the only mention of it on my record and I'm getting a new psych evaluation in about a week or so.

I just got denied a medical waiver today. I’m crushed, but I’m trying to do anything I can to change it. I went to the Director of Neuroplasic and reconstructive surgery at Johns Hopkins a few months ago and he said it shouldn’t be an issue and then my doctor at MEPS was in the neuroplastics field as well and he said it shouldn’t be an issue, I’ll have a waiver in a week or two. Next thing I know I’m getting a call from my recruiter saying they said no and giving me almost no further information. I just don’t get how professionals in the field say I’m good to go and I still get denied. Also, I got a 96 on the ASVAB 133 GT 143 ST, they said it was some of the highest scores they’ve seen, but that means nothing to them now. I think they have there priorities all out of whack. My MEPS roommate had a sexual assault charge and some clear mental health issues and he was in the last steps of joining.

Maybe because they sent me to a mental clinic but had to stay there for a Month and 2 weeks. They wouldn't let me go back home either and had to stay for their program and i felt like i was a Lab Rat, had to eat their medication or they'll say if i refuse the longer ill be held in the Program. This is hella unfair. I just got diagnosed with A.D.H.D. a few months ago (and i'm 27). I'm appreciating the medication but my main goal overall has always been to join the Coast Guard. So I'm going to have to go a couple years without the medication prior to applying & be symptom free and so on if I hope to get in. I'm wondering if I should reach out to the recruiters office while I'm still on medication and let them know my plans. Also, getting the all-clear letter shouldn't be an issue .. but like I said - I just started on these meds. :(

I’d recommend getting off medication for 6-12mo and then get an updated evaluation to show you no longer have that issue. Then sit down with a Recruiter with all these records and updates. Because it was so short is why I am saying you could try sooner but they may or may not require a 1-3yr waiting period. Good luck on your waiver and may the waiver gods forever be in your favor!

If you’re currently on medication, you won’t be able to join. Expect to be denied and be taken off of the medication for 6-8 weeks unless otherwise directed by MEPS. To increase your waiver approval odds, to show stability and not requiring to be medicated, be off meds and stable for 6mo with good readings monthly. Then you’d def get a better result.
