I live in Colorado and I did as a kid when Columbine happened and it rocked the state extremely hard. I'm surprised the Hot Coffee incident with GTA San Andreas didn't make the list. I think Fox News was hoping to have a rerun of that incident when they brought up Mass Effect (and failed at it but that's par for the course over at Fox). First Rockstar insisted it was just modders on the PC but when they found it on the PS2 version, it proved that it was indeed in the game, just inaccessible. San Andreas had to be re-certified by the ESRB as AO (essentially taking it off shelves everywhere) until Rockstar shipped a new version of the game sans content. I remember there being talk on Capitol Hill about codifying the ESRB into law. It's interesting that the ESRB, despite being a part of gaming since the 90s, actually isn't part of any law, but rather just the industry itself opting to rate games (which itself came about because of Doom, Mortal Kombat, Night Trap and such in the early 90s). Before that, games didn't really have any rating (though I do remember Sega trying to do its own thing with Mortal Kombat being rated MA-13).

Interesting that you had a clip of the Fable chicken kick right after that PETA thing because that's just what I had in mind. The Fable 3 box actually contains a content warning that the game includes "cruelty to animals" and I presume that that's because of the chicken kick. Can we stop pushing that bullshit narrative that the ET game almost killed the video game industry. That is a massive oversimplification of the problems in the industry at the time. The industry was in decline before the ET game was ever developed. The quality control for games at the time was basically non existent. For every decent game there were dozens more that were horrible and in some cases not even functional. At best, ET was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back but did not single handedly almost destroy an entire industry.

I just wish people would stop trying to blame games and cartoons for real life crimes it's really stupid most of the times.

So the Kane and Lynch Gamespot thing basically just confirmed that all reviews, at least from major publications like IGN Gameinformer and Gamespot, are paid for, which is obviously why a game like Cyberpunk 2077 got 9-10 across the board before anyone could actually play it and see what a crapfire it really was. I've noticed the padded score gameinformer gives to games they know are amazing but cant give a nine or higher because of outside influence, like Dishonored and many other 10/10 games receiving an 8.75 from them. Go look up all the games they've given that score to. It's all a scam.
@AusSP2 жыл бұрын
I think Cyberpunk is more a matter that journalists are pretty willing to believe it when a company tells them that certain bugs are going to be fixed in a day one patch, or something, and journalists only getting PC, which is the far more stable version. Day one patches being so common that it's an easy pill to swallow.And then there was a day one patch... and it didn't fix anything. Basically... many journalists are way too accepting of how the game is "intended" to be, and others are unwilling to step on very important toes.
