Hi Van! Thanks for this. Did you fix/reassemble? I have to replace 5th synchro on my SM and I hear it’s not too bad because it doesn’t require full stack disassembly. Interested in your thoughts.

I have dismounted a Kia Sportage 2001 gearbox, and overall they look very similar. Ratio is different, output shaft too but I am sure that al that are interchangeable. I have to change all this yellow synchro ring.

why does the healthy synchro align all the dog teeth when selecting gear? what helps them to align instead if locking with teeth not aligned?

Half clutch 70-80% (lazy left leg) and switch 1st gear what happen noise ?

Its strange from outside it looks like NB transmission but inside we can see straight reverse gears teeths which comes from NA transmission. The red silicone residues could mean somebody put the NA shafts and gears into NB trans body but I dont know why. Regards!

The Na/Nb are identical from the outside forward of the tail housing. You can swap them over, you just have to change the 3 selector forks on the rods (easily done, drift out the roll pin and swap over) I had a very low Kms NB box, but wanted to keep my modified NA tail housing (shorter remote) So I swapped them over that's how I know. It makes sense for Mazda to just use the same to keep costs down, just changing the little bits needed. Not sure about the NC box because I haven't looked at one in person yet

@@shaunhall4166 NC gearbox is also almost the same, you can swap it even with NA housing to obtain better transmission as NC have got i e. better oiling and synchros

@@marcinpc88 ok thanks, that's good to know. The box and engine I'm using has only 40k km's that's why I wanted to keep the box, but really wanted to use the na because the remote can be shortened. So when I looked at them side by side I thought,mmmmm that would work haha. So I tried it. I have also modified it to take SAAB hydraulic clutch release bearing The engine and box are going in my MK3 spitfire, running throttle bodies made from SU carbs to look a bit more period. @@Polybush_UK you can simply swap just the external housing and leave the middle thin plate but I prefer to disassembly all the stuff and use all the housings from one gearbox to make sure it is perfectly aligned

The damage to this one is too great to warrant a rebuild - it's cheaper to get another used one.
