What is the cylinder block that is connected to blue cable?

Any idea how to separate the heating element from the grilling plate? Using a similar model, it’s like the element is snapped into the underside but nervous about just prying it up. Thanks :)

It looks like, in the production process, the heating element is placed into the die-cast aluminium slot and then tabs (for want of a better word) are created to crimp the element in place. Separating them would be tricky but not impossible.
