i use this grinder daily and its definitely worth the money, its a tool from an unlikely source that can stand on its merits and do its job effortlessly, even reefin down on it half stalling it out it doesnt overheat in my hand like our dewalt does, stays cool and maintains power, i bought it cause the teardown looked so good but it exceeded all expectations

Disclaimer: My dad raised me to be a DeWalt fan boy, and I got the brushless DWE402(11000 RPM 11 amp), but my buddy I served with has the equivalent 11 amp Hercules. I'll be visiting him again soon, and we're going to cut up a leaf spring assembly (for repurposing not just to ruin good spring steel). He swears by his grinder, and knowing him he's right. I still love dewalt though, and I caught it on a decent sale, day after I put my order in the price jumped up 25 bucks! The comparable Herc grinder is HE61P, and at least on the outside they're nearly identical in shape. Current HF price near me is $75, where as I paid $85.70 for my DeWalt. Haven't gotten to hog out material on either, but frankly I'd go with whichever you find on a good sale first 😂 the price on HF's website for the DeWalt is 99.99, but again, if you want the longer warranty you're paying close enough to the same, if neither is on sale. The cheapest (4.3 amp) warrior grinders run about 10-15 bucks, but that's the value of them. Hercules and DeWalt seem very comparable, harbor freight doesn't seem to be blowing smoke with this line.

Very fair video covering the practical aspects of these grinders. I'm a hobbyist and just got the Hercules. Very impressed with the build quality compared to other HFT grinders I've bought. I'd expect tradespeople and contractors will eventually adopt the HFT if the tools hold up under use. Time will tell. Thanks very much for your comparison.

I got a supera-one 4 1/2 angle grinder 11 amps 12,000 RPM rat's tail type I'm pretty surprised with it of course I repacked it with as much grease as I could possibly add inside so that probably helped it run a lot better

@ToolTeardowns Harbor Freight has the best warranties in all of retail, they do not take it for repair, inspect it, or even test it even is broken in any fashion. You bring it in you get a brand new one on the spot! You do not need the receipt they can pull it with your phone number. I do not know what DeWalt does but I can almost promise you they send it out for repair.

Parts and labor are only 1 year, not 3 years, you have to pay for shipping, and they will give you the usual run around. Most people don't even bother. If something breaks on the job site, unless it's brand new, they throw it in the trash and get a new one.

Great and informative video. You and AVE are neck and neck, however his videos are becoming too drawn out for me. I use Metabo grinders so I’m not in the market for any currently, but if I was I would be sure to keep your videos in mind!

I just picked up a lightly used Metabo grinder that I'm going to tear down in a future video. I found it at a garage sale, of all places. That was a surprising place to find a German grinder.

I love them. I'm not any brand fanboy by any means, I spend my hard earned money on things that will last, it's not my fault all of those things happen to either be Japanese or German!!! HAHA. At work we use pneumatic grinders, 6-9", Cleco brand. They used Metabos there around 6 years ago but traded them out for two reasons, even though they are tough, the nylon housings couldn't stand up to the abuse of a industry shop, and also they did not (maybe did? Can't rember which is dead man) have a dead man switch which is a must as far as OSHA is concerned.

I've been abusing my hurcules for 2 months now and it's great. I had a problem at the beginning with the gear box getting hot so I got a new one same thing... I de greased everything, added a oring under the spring for the lock and put gear oil in it.. Stays much cooler and spins more freely

Matt Drew i have this same issue with a cheap grinder, got extremely hot and took it apart and the grease had turned into a frothy foam. Zero left on the gears all just in the corners. No leaking oil issues?

Matt Bechberger no oil issues since I "sealed" the lock button I abused this grinder for a month constantly giving her all my weight and when I went to change the oil I didn't since it still looks new (75w 140). The gear box still gets pretty warm but the gears will definitely last given that it's now soaked in oil.

Well I just bought one of the Hercules without knowing anything about it. Mainly because it was cheaper than the Dewalt and yet looked just as good. After watching both of your videos (which are awesome by the way), I feel I made a good choice for sure. Yes it’s $20 difference, but I live pay check to pay check and have a family of 7. I work for myself using my tools part time. So any $$$ I can save makes a difference. That does sometimes means buying a cheaper $$ and cheaper built tool. But sometimes that has to do. Thankfully this tool seams to do the same job as the more expensive one. Thanks so much for the video. Subscribed and will continue to watch. Keep up the good work. How the heck did you manage to get a free tool from dewalt? I’m a fairly new KZbinr. I have a few videos with one that has taken off.

People make a big deal about the warranty, but if you have ever need to use the warranty a broken DeWalt product, you will likely be in for an eye opening experience, especially if you are not near a repair center. You pay shipping, both ways...
@johnhandcock3242
@johnhandcock3242 5 жыл бұрын
exactly. Their 3 year warranty is really at best 1 year, and even getting that is an expensive chore. You can buy the 2 year warranty from HF for the price it will cost to ship your grinder back to dewalt.

Brushes these days should always be softer type for 2 reasons: 1. because they are cheap as cheap comes 2. because nobody puts proper contacts anymore, just the cheaper ones. I'm perfectly ok with changing brushes every year vs having to go to the corner market to buy someone else's discarded armature.

Great video, just a quick safety note: You are cutting the wrong way at 5:07 . The sparks are shooting up, which means that the grinder is pulling towards you. That's unsafe and you don't have good leverage cutting like that. You should cut so that the sparks hit the ground and the grinder pulls away from you. It is much safer and it's easier to hold the grinder that way (basically screw the handle to the other side and flip the grinder around). If you bind up between the cutting pieces the grinder will fly away from you, and not come back to hurt you.
@ToolTeardowns

Yes, you are correct. I set it up this way for the shot, but if you check out my later grinder videos you'll see I did it the safer way.

A lot of times quality is in line with price and that is usually in line with use.. if you're only going to use it a handful of times a year buy the less expensive one.. if you need to use it at your job/ home frequently.. then buy the more expensive one.. With slightly better quality.. and that is where you need to weigh the price difference and level of said slight quality... Harbor Freight has done a very good job of bringing their new lines in and showing that they are quite capable around the house and on the job site without breaking the bank

Cutting tiles is consider hard work for a grinder? I belive the hardest is cutting metal. After that cutting concrete and the lightest duty is tiles. Do you think the 10 dollar h f grinder would make it worth buying for lots of tiles? Or it wouldn't keep up?
@SirMo

Tile is very tough on the grinders. Ceramic material in tiles is very hard.

chris jones use a sanding disc (sungold abrasives makes good ones) when beveling the pipe. Push down with high pressure, the motor will be under extreme load, if anything will get it hot enough to burn out it’s that.

Killed 3 of the blue harbor freight grinders this way but the hurcules seems better but considering the 90day warranty I'd go milwaukee or DeWalt if I were to buy again. Keep in mind that HFT will sell you an extended warranty. If they really thought it would crap out before two years, they wouldn't sell that warranty. The 90 day warranty is a gimmick to get you to hand over an extra $20 to feel safe.

Mister Hat I've killed 3 of the blue harbor freight grinders prior to getting this one. Did get warranty on them and that's how I got the Hercules since they didnt wanna refund $ till I killed Hercules. I couldn't but that's nothibg for long term use. I know the milwaukee will last and is guaranteed for 5 years the hercules is now a best guess scenario at this point, I do hope it lasts though

Mister Hat absolutely right that's really the point of Harbor Freights new lines Why Pay people $150 for a drill and $60 for a grinder when you can buy a drill for $99 and a grinder for under $40?.. and get the same work out of them ... this s*** really starts to add up when you buy their tool line because you've dedicated yourself to a particular battery and when you spend $1,000 on DeWalt tools and five to six hundred dollars for Hercules tools and still get the job done then you definitely notice the difference in your wallet

Another reason to buy Hercules even though $20 doesn’t seem like is you can buy 3 Hercules for the price of two DEWALT. Put a flap disk one one, cutoff on another, and grinder on the third and you are more productive and save time of jobs. Plus wear and tear is spread across three tools instead of just two.
