I remember being in school back in 82. A classmate of mine brought in a tape of Kilimanjaro one day (her older sister was a huge Teardrops fan). She played it at lunch break and danced on the desk with her best friend to this song. :-) That was my introduction to them. I bought the album myself shortly after.

If you were into Teardrop Explodes and then solo Julian Cope back when this was current then you were way cool!! Noone knew these guys when they were around and they were so fucking awesome that to this day I still have their records and CD's. It's great that this stuff is on youtube. trust and believe!.

I must have been 'way cool' then mate. Cope writes some fantastic songs.

No one knew these guys when they were around??? In 1981 they were one of the most hyped bands in the UK and got tons of exposure -they also had 3 Top20 singles in 8 months. Julian Cope basically refused to play the game but really, the Teardrop Explodes were already big and they could have been huge.

Great songs but terrible production. I would love to see Cope - or anyone - re-record the whole album.

Julian may be mad as a hatter, but his voice is still resonant and lyrical now as it ever was. This is one of my most favourite memorable songs of the 80's cos it reminds me of when I first met my now husband. He introduced me to Teardrops and - though perhaps a little in denial now - was really into them big time then...Remember listening to this hon sitting in front of illegal gas fires, drinking instant coffee on doddery furniture in dingy student let flats ?

@furakkueroru Then you must think Coldplay sound like Madness. This sounds uncannily like Madness, particularly the piano. I can just imagine Suggs voice on this. Oh and btw all of you who think I"m talking Coldplay, sorry I mean cack, this is produced by Langer and Winstanley, who also produced? Yes you've guessed it : MADNESS. One thing it doesn't sound like is Coldplay. Do you realise it's just a, sorry, getting carried away there, huge insult to the wonderful Teardrops? oh and Madness!

Julian was so damn talented. I wonder why The Teardrop Explodes never got success? They had more pop appeal than say, the likes of Echo & the Bunnymen or Thompson Twins and such ... It boggles my mind how underground UK bands like The English Beat and Siouxsie and the Banshees get some Alternative rock charts, but The Teardrop Explodes go totally unnoticed and fade into obscurity. Bad marketing maybe?
@Clem_Fandango1114 жыл бұрын
I often wondered if Live Aid killed everything. The money moguls moved in when they realized how much money could be made. im probably wrong though. Just seems that all those small indie labels that produced such great bands died.
