Since hitting the 200k sub mark I felt it was only fitting that tonight's teardown include not one but TWO engines in one video!
These two core LS architecture engines were the "worst two" of the last batch of engines that came in... I would tend to agree!
First engine is a 6.2L L94 from a 2013 Yukon Denali. This is a 403HP aluminum block closely related to the LS3, with the addition of VVT, and DOD. The Second engine is a 5.3L LMG, from a 2007-2009 Tahoe/Silverado or other GMT900 chassis. Its an Iron block, 310hp engine.
Both engines suffered major catastrophic failures that were likely preventable, but don't we always say that?
Why do I do this? I own and run a full service salvage business in the Saint Louis Missouri area called Importapart. Part of our business model includes stripping down bad engines and salvaging the good parts to resell. We do not rebuild engines, merely supply parts to those that do!
200k is just mind blowing. I never set out for this, but I am so elated to be here. I can't say thank you all enough.
I really hope you enjoy this double-teardown. As always, I love all of the comments, feedback and even the criticism.
Catch you on the next one!!
-Eric

I think one of the reasons that you have so many subs is that you read all the comments, even the bad ones. I have also experienced on a personal level, writing to your company and asking a vehicle question… and you answered me. It’s one of my favorite channels and I hope you get 200,000 more subs!

Hope you're doing well. I've been there, and totally agree. My Mom passed a year ago. We knew it was coming for almost a year. At some point, every day, there's nothing left to do. I showed her a few youtube channels, and there were a couple she really liked. We'd watch, and she'd tell me stories of helping her Dad work on a tractor, or whatever. Or laugh about stuff. It was, in it's own way, a good time.

A great way to bring home the fact that regularly checking your oil and changing both oil and filter is for you to be an example. By first checking the dipstick, draining the oil, and inspecting the filter on every engine you teardown.

I was a state of Michigan certified master mechanic; I dropped out of that field some years ago and now I work on printing presses and associated equipment. Your videos tell me what a wise decision that was! I won’t lie and say my new occupation is a piece of cake; it isn’t, but I am glad we still have people like you out there, showing us the good, the bad and the ugly. That 3-cylinder Ford with the “wet” timing belts is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen! At least with most of the engines you’ve torn down here you can see good points to them and your “autopsies” on how and why the engines failed mean a lot. And one thing has become very obvious - you love your line of work! Regardless of what we wrench, MECHANICS FOREVER!!

33:10 that lone ACDelco plug appears to be the dreaded #8 spark plug, the bane of Vortec owners' existence. This isn't the first time I've seen a GM V8 torn down with 1 plug different from the other 7, and it's always the #8 that tends to be an original plug. Appreciate the work as always, Eric.

For me, this channel is like watch makers who take apart dead Swiss watches. Except here, the Swiss watches are for the masses. I went on a road trip to help a friend pick up a 10 year-old Jag today. I drove over 100mph and revved my m52 engine over 6500 rpm. Swiss watch. To see where they break is to marvel at what they do when they are running. Thanks!
