Tearing Out a Beaver Dam with a Backhoe

I work for a county out in Alberta and we do the same thing...Use a backhoe....Our county also has a $10 bounty on beaver.Just bring in the tail

tankkiller41 Some of our countys have a bounty but not many. Also the county will hire me and pay 100.00 per beaver to take them out of specific locations

In many states and counties special permits are needed to breach a beaver dam. Often times the area has to be inspected by fish and game commissions, Conservation departments, Dept. of forest & waters, DEP, etc. just saying...... Of course, all that water is going down stream affecting other people's properties.

In this particular case they were backing up this small river. It was flooding out a boy scout camp and surrounding property so had to be removed

No, actually, they are living in OUR space. Man has dominion over the animals of the earth - not the other way around you kook. When beavers dam a creek, they starve life and forestation downstream... so MAN is helping wildlife by ending these pests.

Absolutely the worst possible way to do it. Install pipes for water flow and sink the dam some but totally destroying the dam and their lodge disrupts the animals horribly and they're very necessary to the ecosystem.

They build ecosystems. Unfortunately some places the county would rather just remove the beaver than spend money maintaining pipes and such in the dam. Since you're a Realist you should know they are a nuisance in many places and need to be removed. They multiply fast and will just cause more and more problems. Populations need to be kept in check
