Today we start renovations, again! This time we tear out the old living room and find a few unwanted surprises along the way. Our home remodel is going well but we still have a long way to go. Gutting this house is a dirty, tough job but we keep pushing through to achieve our goals and make a better life for family.

Great start! Your living room is still going to be big enough even with putting the third bedroom back. I feel very good about you taking the time to gut everything. You will end up knowing your home inside to the outside, from the roof to crawl space. You will be able to sleep at night knowing that everything is done well. Love and blessings!

Very true! A lot of problems can be hiding under drywall, wall paper, flooring, etc. May you find out what needs to be done and be able to repair or replace as needed in a timely manner. Blessings on your household.

You do things the RIGHT way! We love it! And by the way, we noticed your red front door (a big trend today). But it was a tradition in Scotland to paint the front door red once the mortgage was paid. You have no mortgage, so your red door makes sense. 🙂

This part will accomplish 2 goals (bedroom and living,room remodel). Wonderful. Hope you are planning to insulate between bedrooms (Belle's and Maverick's) and living room for noise control. Everyone will be more comfortable. I know you did that between your room and Belle's. Will also help control temperature in each room. You guys work so fast. Can't believe how much you got done. Doug and Ashley, you are one strong team. Keeping it clean as you go - is the way to go. Geez, I would buy any home you were selling after watching your videos. You fix all sorts of problems. Bob Villa and that other home repair show ( the name has slipped my mind ) would be proud of your demolition, repairs, and progress. It was AWESOME the slab of concrete came up in one piece. I'm sure Doug will find a good use for it. Gee, Ashley, I can still remember how you climbed the roof and now you are moving concrete. What a woman. I just love your channel. You made a really great case on why you need to gut the inside of a trailer home. I am glad you've bought yourself some great tools to help get the job done. The money you save by not having to farm out the work pays for those good tools over and over. You're saving yourself a lot of mental grief by doing the work yourself too. We had someone do an addition on our house and we learned just how lazy some of these contract workers are. The way you guys work, is the way they should work - but they never do. We had one guy who was working in our air-conditioned home, belly ache because his co-workers got off work due to the heat. I think he actually ended up leaving our job that day. They care little for the damage they do along the way too. You guys are your own best workers. You keep plugging away and just get the job done perfectly and on time.

Idea for you. Lay that slab of concrete under an outdoor hydrant. It keeps it from getting sloppy and muddy underneath them.

It is so satisfying watching this process. Just knowing that all of that rot is going to be fixed is so great. From a design standpoint, I hope you'll consider modifying the archway between the living room and the rest of the house. I've never liked the rounded corners look that the original builder put here, I think a rectangular opening would look much more appropriate for the style you're going for. It would also probably be better for tall people to use. Can't wait to see the next one, love this series.

I've never seen drywall come down so easily, hubby would have put a screw in every 8 inches thus making taking it down a HUGE pain in the butt. Bravo the keeping the work area clean, we did the same, hubby demolished and I cleaned up -- makes for a safer work environment.

We had mold in our mobile home when we bought it too. We had to get a new roof, new siding and we gutted the inside. It was a nightmare but we love our little place....and especially living in the country!

Hope you keep the curved archway. That opening would be good to have for a more open feel. My house is similar to yours. We closed off an opening like that but then several years later we opened it up and like it much better. Can't wait to see when it's done. You are both such hard workers. Good job!😊
