Fun fact about episode seven, this is adapted from the first game’s downloadable content Left Behind where it explores Ellie’s backstory moments before meeting Joel and Tess. What I liked about it is that we get to see Ellie having a flashback to her time in the FEDRA military school as well as spending time with her best friend Riley. And the reason we didn’t see Riley during the first six episodes is because she had succumbed to the infection, which would explain that Joel wasn’t the only one who lost someone.

Technically Ellie's first kill would be the infected individual that she stabbed in the brain. But I'm wondering if Ellie saw her girlfriend turn, requiring Ellie to kill her too. 1:38-1:44 Joel pushing Ellie away, telling her to leave, take the gun and go. Remember Ep 3 when Bill was shot when the raiders came? He was telling Frank about the list, and to call Joel? Now Joel is telling Ellie to go, trying to send her back to Tommy (which given the distance travelled with limited navigational experience, I don't know that she could find her way back.) "The spinning stuff" You mean Carousel. You're the first reactor I've seen picking up the "romantic" and "crush on each other" vibes and actually mentioning it, early in the episode. I mean, Riley's been dropping hints throughout, Ellie wasn't hinting at it but it was a sign when she insisted Riley turn around while she changed from her sleeping attire to an outfit to go outside. Remember, they're both raised in an orphanage from a vety young age, and have generally had a roommate. Ellie fixing her hair in the window was another hint meant for the audience, but out of sight of Riley. Riley wanted to find out if Ellie shared the feelings she had, so planned this elaborate 'date' knowing if Ellie asked her to stay, it would be a confirmation and that she would agree. She dropped hints like "imagining you wearing that" and "I asked if you could join so we could go together" (there are many other hints both ways) but if Ellie didn't share the feelings, at least they would be able to say goodbye, instead of Riley just disappearing, and Riley never knowing if Ellie would ask her to stay. Saying goodbye would offer better closure than just running away and never knowing, but if it was goodbye, at least they'd have a night to remember fondly. Neither Riley nor Ellie are aware Ellie is immune. So after they are both bitten, I can only imagine how Riley feels she's just condemned the one person who matters most in the world to infection, all for the sake of her one gesture to either be with her or have closure to their relationship. Since Ellie's bite is 3 weeks old when she is handed to Tess and Joel, Ellie just learned Riley felt for her what she felt for Riley, then lost Riley the same night, 3 weeks later learns she's immune and is passed off to these smugglers, a day later has to leave Tess behind because she's bitten, the next day arrive at Bill and Frank's for them to already be dead, maybe a week later shoots Bryan, paralyzing him, finds she couldn't save Sam, watches Sam and Henry die. Then 3 months later Joel tries to pass her off to Tommy, but when given the choice, she chooses to stick with Joel because she at least knows him, what he's capable of, and has bonded with him. Now she's being told by him "Go, leave me, go to Tommy" Think about this, everything involving Ellie that we've seen, flashback or otherwise, has been in about the last 4 months. [I think someone is going to need a lot of therapy]

Not only did Ellie have to watch Riley turn into an infected, she also probably had to shoot her. Back in episode with Henry and Sam, when Ellie saved Joel by shooting that guy, Joel felt sorry for Ellie for having to do that at such a young age, but she replied it wasn't the first time she's done that...

I just realized this week that the truck that they got from Bill was full of supplies and when they crashed it 2 episodes ago, they had to leave behind all of the food, water, camping supplies guns and ammo that Bill left for them The only things that they can keep are what they can carry on their backs

This episode is honest to god better than the original Left Behind DLC. I loved how throughout the episode they were showing hints how both Ellie and Riley had a huge crush on each other. Like Riley imagining Ellie in the lingerie and Ellie checking her reflection to see if she looked good. Then when they finally kissed I just clutched my heart because it was so sweet. Also as a gamer the scene in Raja’s Arcade was my favorite, the arcade gamer Valhalla. But what really got me was the final scene of Ellie stitching up Joel, she never left Riley behind so she wasn’t going to leave the only other person she ever loved behind either. And then when the original “Left Behind” theme kicked in that’s when the water works kicked in.😭😭😭

I am still wondering if we later find out that unfortunately, Riley was Ellie's first kill when she turned and Ellie didn't turn. More Tears yet to be shed😭 Oh, and I was almost waiting for Ellie to tell Joel, "I might be just cargo to you, but you're the only family I've got left!!!"

Pretty ironic that "Take On Me" by A-Ha was playing in the mall since it's a big part in the second game. I liked Ellie and Riley's chemistry as friends, one's a Firefly and the other to be trained as a FEDRA officer. Isn't their Earth grand? Nice reaction Magy.

This is way better than the downloadable content from the first game called Left behind where you get to see Ellie's backstory and who is Riley they did a awesome masterpiece of a job to adapt this to TV show type of story ! And you get to see Joel and Ellie and why Ellie fights to keep Joel alive when Joel doesn't want to be alive! The episode was a flashback. It’s how Ellie learns she’s immune, that is why Ellie panics when she is bitten. And yes, it is implied the first person Ellie shot was Riley. So Riley wasn’t immune and Riley is shot and killed by Ellie
