The watch. The sight of that broken watch that Joel's baby girl gave him, and he's wearing it, holding another baby girl he's trying to save. Seeing it just broke me. And then seeing Ellie's traumatized face as Joel leads her away. Just devastating. Awesome episode I'll be thinking about for days.

To be fair, people are simply experiencing an overwhelming rush of relief in those moments. It's parallel to when Ellie and Riley witnessed the floor collapse right next to them and laughed. How else does one react in the heat of the moment, but to be overwhelmed with positive reassurance that an immediate potential threat is gone? There's nothing wrong with applauding Magy here, but it shouldn't come with putting down everyone else as a result. It's peculiar, you are seemingly so intrigued by the psychological circumstances of the scene yet you've failed to grasp the psychological circumstances of the various reactions to such a scene.

Thats not fair, a lot of people cheering do understand the tragedy of the situation. but compared to the alternative....a lot of people who haven't played the game cheer out of sheer relief, which overpowers the sadness. and the people who did play/watch the game had time to process the loss the we witnessed. also lets bffr, this is THE most satisfying end to an evil character like that, even if it does traumatize our own Ellie.

I was wondering how dark they were gonna make the *DARKEST* part of the game. And yeah, they did not hold back. They made David in his last minutes even more disturbing than the game made him. And when David tells Ellie that she has a violent heart he had NOOOO idea. I would honestly put her near the top of the list of the deadliest people in tv or video games. But that scene of Joel hugging Ellie and calling her baby girl still hits hard. Also I kinda wished that Troy Baker (the original actor who played Joel in the game) was cast as someone far more important than James. Still he was amazing and he had an awesome death scene, and it was darkly funny that video game Joel was killed by tv Ellie. Also wish that they gave Ellie her trademark bow and arrow, but hopefully we get that in Part 2.

As someone who hasn't played the game, as relieved as I was that Ellie had gained the upper hand and killed David, I was also absolutely devastated for her in that moment. Any innocence she still had was destroyed by what David did and attempted to do to her and by the fact that he forced her to hack him to death to avoid it. That guy was a monster. Joel's a weapon. The way he took out the men left behind to search for him, despite being wounded and nowhere near fully fit, was epic and that interrogation scene.... well, let's just say he wasn't messing around. I totally expected that Joel would burst in at the last minute to save Ellie, but I'm so glad they actually had Ellie save herself. She went beast mode. She's a true survivor. She is Joel's daughter. Can't fault this episode. Can't wait for the finale.

Nolan North voiced David in the game, and he was literal perfection. I had no idea it was Nolan until I looked up the credits. The video game version is just as creepy and horrific - they captured it on TV just perfectly.

This was another great episode. And it's probably mentioned already but the guy who played James (David's 2nd) is Troy Baker. Troy Baker both voiced and did the motion capture for Joel in the game.

David's conversation with Ellie while she was caged was very uncomfortable. His words at first weren't mean, harsh or creepy... but they were intrusive... like he was crossing emotional and psychological intimate barriers very lightly.. in a way that made my skin crawl, even before he called Ellie his equal. That's very good writing and acting. A groomer to the core.

"It's okay, Babygirl" That broke me. Because this is the first time you see Joel be this vulnerable with Ellie. We haven't seen that Joel since Sarah died in his arms. Such a touching moment between the two. And I really feel this is the episode Bella earned her wings. The pure rage she let out on David, with the fire burning in the background - was so good. This was a slow burn episode, but so well done. Masterful cinematography as well. Truly sets the stage for the finale. Overall, this was an excellent episode.

It also called to mind the book and film, "Alive" which was a true story of some plane crash survivors who were forced to resort to cannibalism to stay alive in the remote Andes mountains. Ah! Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson 😘. As James and the little girls mother, I was completely thrown off that they ended up playing these characters on the show. I told you the civil groups are Q.Z, Fireflies, different Religious/cults, And the straight up violent group Hunters like the EP with Sam & Henry. I'm sorry I had to laugh when you yelled oh! When David confirms cannibalism. With the scene Ellie kills David, I prefer the video game ver. because Jeol actually comes in a few seconds later while she's chopping his head, and he pulls her off then he calls her "baby girl". But yes David was gonna take her by force. In the game David's final line is "you can always try begging."
