Tears For Fears' 1985 hit "Everybody Wants to Rule The World" with lyrics below.
LYRICS:
Welcome to your life
There's no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find you acting on your best behavior
Turn your back on Mother Nature
Everybody wants to rule the world
It's my own design
It's my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most
Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world
There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you
So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world
I can't stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you'll never never never never need it
One headline why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world
All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

Same here. 80s, 90s, and early to mid 2000s was my time. I'm 35 years old now. Both of my parents have passed and my siblings all moved away to other states but songs like this take me back to a certain day. Good times are so engraved into my memory it still feels like only a few hours ago.

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” ‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:9‬ ‭NIV‬ ROMANS 10:9-11 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame” Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭19:10‬ ‭ God wants us to believe in His One and Only Son, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, who died for our sins :D When we truly believe in our hearts that Jesus is the Son of God, who died for our sins so we could have eternal life with God, we are saved from the eternal fire and have eternal life in Christ Jesus!! 💖 May God bless you all! ❤️🕊

Despite all the joke comments, this is the first song I remember hearing. I was 5 years old, on the way to pre-school. The intro and first lyrics “welcome to your life” changed something in me. At first I thought it was a joke, a song made up for me. I decided that probably wasn’t true, which led to me realizing I had my whole life in front of me. I was just a little kid. I looked up at my mom driving, realizing I’d be her age one day. I remember every detail of that moment. The plastic texture of the red booster seat. The upholstery in the back seat of our Dodge Caravan. I’m 34 now. I’ve always wondered how and why I had such a profound experience to this song. When I hear it today, I still get that same feeling that I did in the booster seat. What is that feeling? How can it be so palpable yet somehow indescribable to this day?

Welcome to your life There's no turning back Even while we sleep We will find you Acting on your best behaviour Turn your back on mother nature Everybody wants to rule the world It's my own design It's my own remorse Help me to decide Help me make the most Of freedom and of pleasure Nothing ever lasts forever Everybody wants to rule the world There's a room where the light won't find you Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down When they do I'll be right behind you So glad we've almost made it So sad they had to fade it Everybody wants to rule the world I can't stand this indecision Married with a lack of vision Everybody wants to rule the world Say that you'll never never never never need it One headline why believe it ? I was 22 in 1985 and am sooooo thankful that I can definitely remember time and place when all this great 80's music was coming out. Graduated high school in '81. What a time to be alive. It was soooooo much better than 2023.
