Im 50 now and the 80s is like some wondrous dream I woke up from early and wish I could fall asleep and return to. I know the worlds needed to move on in the decades since, and not everyone sees it through rose colored glasses, but what an absolutely magical time. It was all like some dream. Im glad I had it when I was young enough to enjoy it just the way I did. But I miss that time as though I miss a loved one who's irreplaceable and long gone.

If time would have just stood still in those magical times. I am 60 now, but I look back on the 80's as the time I really grew up. I graduated high school in '79, but I had the best years of my life in the 80's! I think back on those years with such a variety of emotions. Sometimes this music brings me back to that time in my life and I feel so sad that those times are gone. Some of the people are gone forever, some are still around, but we've all moved on and hopefully look back fondly on these memories. I miss those days...best years of my life!

Roland and Curt have such unique voices. No one ever mistakes them for another band.
@bluebirdconundrum2 жыл бұрын
Back in the day, Curt Smith seemed to get a bit more publicity as the "lead" in Tears For Fears, but I have always thought that Roland Orzabal is both the more talented musician and the better singer. This is not to take anything away from Smith, but in modern performances the mild deterioration of Orzabal's voice - which is obviously understandable - noticeably reduces the richness of the band's vocals. I think it is amazing that they still perform with the quality that they do, but Orzabal's voice had an unmistakable resonance that simply can't be replaced.

So pure and sing with a purpose. The reason music doesn’t get made like this anymore is based upon singularity. Back then guys were interested in one girl and wrote a song about her. Making it heartfelt and meaningful. Now… it’s all about whatever girls you can get, or whichever ones happens to like your music. U2- Sweetest Thing (forgot his wife’s birthday, song was an apology) Heart- Barracuda (manager was sexist towards them) Jim Croce- Time in a Bottle (regretting not spending time with family/son) List goes on. They sang with their hearts.

"Head Over Heels" Tears for Fears I wanted to be with you alone And talk about the weather But traditions I can trace against the child in your face Won't escape my attention You keep your distance via the system of touch And gentle persuasion I'm lost in admiration, could I need you this much? Oh, you're wasting my time You're just, just, just wasting time Something happens and I'm head over heels I never find out until I'm head over heels Something happens and I'm head over heels Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart Don't, don't, don't throw it away Throw it away, throw it away I made a fire, and watching it burn Thought of your future With one foot in the past, now just how long will it last? Now, now, now, have you no ambitions? My mother and my brothers used to breathing clean air And dreaming I'm a doctor It's hard to be a man when there's a gun in your hand Oh, I feel so Something happens and I'm head over heels I never find out until I'm head over heels Something happens and I'm head over heels Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart Don't, don't, don't throw it away And this is my four leaf clover I'm on the line, one open mind This is my four leaf clover In my mind's eye One little boy, one little man Funny how time flies

As a person who did not live in the 80's (I was born in 1993) and grew up with more contemporary music, there is something special, something magical, a label, a brand, a perfume, a touch, an essence and a history with the music of the 80's. This type of music is an authentic journey of time, nostalgia and delicacy towards your ears. It will probably never happen again, but it will stay with you in your heart forever. I don't mean to be a spoilsport or anything but I don't think it is helpful for anyone to fetishize one generation or another as being superior to the others. I personally love 80s pop culture, movies, and music, but the 80s had its fair share of struggles and strife. A lot of the wars were still fighting today were born from conflicts that began in the 80s and earlier. During the 80s everyone thought that the world was going to be imminently ending in nuclear fire from the conflict with the US and Soviets. They used to have kids do nuke drills in school. Definitely not like it wasn't just as terrible in the 80s as it is now, you were just a child then so you don't remember the bad, you remember being a child.

I know this song from my youth so sat down to transcribe all the parts for the band members (ages 14-17). Holy crap this song is musically brilliant. Every part perfectly crafted but not over stated. The groove of the bassline locking in so perfectly with the drums. It is complex in it's simplicity. Those beautiful hidden guitar countermelodies. The piano in the verses just cushions the vocals. Especially a lot of younger artists who could've never made it before but can publish and even record their own stuff now because of the technology improvements. 2010s we're pretty bad for music but 2019-now has been quite amazing I think. Have you ever heard romantic homicide? Street that you live on? Sunset by the midnight? There's some really great stuff

I'm 110 years young, with 14 children, 56 grandchildren, and I've been married to my husband, Herb, for 60 years. This song brings back memories of the old times.
@hiturbine3 жыл бұрын
I was in my early 20's when this song hit the charts. At the time, watching this video on what was then a novelty - "MTV," and seeing that last scene of the married couple in their old age, I thought - "How sweet. Someday, far, far away, that will be me and my wife." Now, near 61 years old, I realize that it's really not "funny how time flies." To all of you young people: enjoy your precious youth, my friends. Hold it more precious than gold, because "it slips away - like dust in the wind."

Exactly. I was 13 when this video came out. I tell every young person the same. Enjoy your youth , it will be gone before you realize it.

I'm about the same age. I still remember what I was doing the afternoon of LiveAid, in my 1976 Olds Delta 88 cranking Queen at Wembley. I always thought it interesting that Roland Orzabal, Matthew Brodderick and Jon Cryer had really similar looks, and could have been brothers.

I just hit 25 this week and revisiting a playlist I have made a couple years back, and funny enough I get that nostalgic feeling listening to this song. Its funny how your brain associates certain memories with a song. This one is definitely one of them and you're absolutely right. The last 7 years have gone by so fast. I'll never forget to live my life to the fullest and I encourage everyone to do the same

Oh, you're wasting my time You're just, just, just wasting time Something happens and I'm head over heels I never find out till I'm head over heels Something happens and I'm head over heels Ah! In my opinion Tears for Fears are arguably the greatest New Wave band ever. I often switch between them and New Order. Head Over Heels just has so many incredible layers and they are all perfect. The vocals, the keyboards, the bass, the drums. All perfect on this track.

So much of the music from the 80s gives me this truly wonderful feeling, euphoric, that music from other decades since just don't. Bands like Tears for Fears and their music just sound so passionate and earnest, no pretensions, not trying to sound cool and edgy, just making sweet honest music that delivers maximum satisfaction.

This song was a hit but didn't get the attention it deserved because it was the third single released after Shout and then Everybody wants to rule the world (which was HUGE). So although this song was brilliant, it wasn't appreciated as much.

@@tajtandoori9076 I can see that, I would’ve been crazy over this. To a blind ear I would imagine most didn’t understand the deeper meaning within the lyrics at the time. I would say most the songs I’ve heard from them so far have these lyrics that you have to really go back think on

@@ronanjohnson979 Wow it's so refreshing to hear someone from your generation say this. We had poets for songwriters back in the 80s we were lucky. Tears for Fears are still touring, and if you look on youtube of their concerts they are still popular with the younger generation. In an interview they said it's because this generation can identify with their lyrics because they were this age when they wrote them.

It was an awesome decade. It was different for everyone. I lived in the country, so my view would differ from others. Sure, we had our problems. Humanity has always had it's problems. It was awesome music, the birth of music videos, running ridges and creeks, playing the awesome new games on atari, trying to be the 10th caller to win a new cd or concert tickets, sitting on the hood of your car in the local shopping center at 1am where fights weren't prevalent, using the library because the internet wasn't around, and spying on your crush while your we're supposed to be researching. We didn't have all of the time saving luxuries we have now. We didn't know about them since they didn't exist yet. We just lived each day for what it was, through the good and the bad. And the music was the soundtrack to our life. There was meaningful music to accompany whatever you were going through. It. Was. Awesome.

Great to hear someone so young loving the 80s, the 80s is like a whole other world now and my God with what's gone on with music this last 30yrs and how the world is now, I so want to go back there. At 59 its like living on a different planet in some dystopian book or film, where up is down n down is up, and I just do not understand it. The music back then was truly poetic and out of this world, if I can recommend just 3 other songs from the 80s to you, which are at least as good as this imho that are in a same like vain, The Lotus eaters First picture of you. Spandau Ballet True. and Joy Division Love will tear us apart. There are so many more I could mention but it would never stop so much great music from back then , enjoy RO .
