Got this Behringer LM on Back-order with Guitar Center a few weeks ago, they gave me a great deal too. Don't pay too much attention to Roger Lynn's comments on it. He's pissed its so cheap ! 🤪This is so awesome. Thanks for the uploaded

Great video and great programming work. I thought the original was an Emu Drumulator with the Digidesign EPROM. I just mention this because Behringer is working on a Drumulator clone. Save for that

Kick, Snare and Tom (actually also a snare sample) are from Digidesign Rock Drums kit and in the original song most probably played on a EMU Drumulator, the Bells & Triangle are from Bruce Forats LinnDrum Alternate Sounds Kit. Digidesign Samples can be found by doing a Google search for "E-mu Drumulator Drums - Digidrums - Rock Drums 1".

HI mate, do you know if this thing has 'Song Position Pointer' onboard its sequencer? Unlike their 606,808 & 909 clones? I asked Behringer some months ago and still cannot get a reply... If it doesn't have SPP onboard, then it's essentially useless for those of us that still write in 'song' arrangements where we have different patterns for each section, rather than a 1-8 bar loop. Thanks in advance 🤞😁

Is the SPP the same as having a song mode that sequences patterns? If they are the same, the answer is, yes, the LMDrum can do what you ask of.

@@SS-hz4jo @groovedealerfeaturing-ashl6476 I think these are different things. SPP means as I understand sending a MIDI signal of the current song position. I've checked with a MIDI monitor and couldn't spot the msg. I would expect the msg when start or stop playing a song.

Technically it’s a sampler, as a ‘rompler’ can only play samples stored in its internal Rom chips. This is not the case here.

@Its303AcidBass yes you can tune all drums, and you can't add delay to the bell out of the box. What you could do is create a bell sound with delay on your computer and load it into LM Drum. With the length control you could now "add" or "remove" delay by changing the lenght of the sample.

Something serious is missing: Roger Linn's swing. It is significant that not a single word has been said about this function in Behringer's official introduction videos. Apparently the device has weaknesses in this regard compared to the original LinnDrum.

@@synthfluencer You would have to ask Roland Orzabal what swing value he set on the LinnDrum. According to Wikipedia, a Drumulator was also used in "Shout". What is probably meant is the E-mu sound set “Rock Drums”. Roger Linn once explained his swing/shuffle concept very clearly to Attack Magazine. I quote: “My implementation of swing has always been very simple: I merely delay the second 16th note within each 8th note. In other words, I delay all the even-numbered 16th notes within the beat (2, 4, 6, 8, etc.) In my products I describe the swing amount in terms of the ratio of time duration between the first and second 16th notes within each 8th note. For example, 50% is no swing, meaning that both 16th notes within each 8th note are given equal timing. And 66% means perfect triplet swing, meaning that the first 16th note of each pair gets 2/3 of the time, and the second 16th note gets 1/3, so the second 16th note falls on a perfect 8th note triplet. The fun comes in the in-between settings. For example, a 90 BPM swing groove will feel looser at 62% than at a perfect swing setting of 66%. And for straight 16th-note beats (no swing), a swing setting of 54% will loosen up the feel without it sounding like swing. Between 50% and around 70% are lots of wonderful little settings that, for a particular beat and tempo, can change a rigid beat into something that makes people move. And unlike the MPCs, my Tempest drum machine makes it very easy to find the right swing setting because you can adjust the swing knob in real time while the beat plays. It’s not the swing setting. There is actually a feel the linndrum has. The lm1 is even more loose, and no it’s not the samples.

In Shout they used a EMU Drumulator with DigiDrums Rock Drums kit (kick & snare/tom) and a LM2 with some ROMs from Alternate Sounds by Bruce Forat. Tambourine sound is an original LM2 sample.

The kick and snare came from Led Zeppelin with the drum hits of Bonzo ''when the leeve breaks.'' technicly no need for special eeprom of Tears for Fears, you can sample that on any sampler now...

The samples are not part of the factory ROM, sadly. The pads work fine for me, a bit harder than on the Arturia Keylab. Way better than on my Elektron Model Samples 😄

Interesting AI drum machine! It even plays the toms without you programming it! :D Guess you re-enacted the recording for the video with a pre recorded audio track, right? Or has the Behringer LM Drums some kinde of "Clippy-AI": "It seems you want to programm the drum pattern of 'Shout'. May I help you with that?" And for all others: These are not stock Linn sounds. Behringer purchased Tears for Fears old Linn drum with special ROMs. I also orderd a Behringer LM Drum (at Thomann). But it seems the first batch is sold out already und the next batch arrives in 13-17 weeks ... which is probably also sold out already. It is #1 in the list of most ordered drum machines at Thomann. So be prepared to wait for some time for delivery if you order one now.

This is an actual live recording, unfortunately the video track is a tiny bit behind the audio track which I only realised after the downmix. I was surprised myself that I managed to play the toms directly after the kick and the snares without waiting another bar 😁
