As someone who use to love Timeline theory videos before the official timeline I miss the more story driven Zelda games. I love Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword because of its story. I don't feel connected to this game story. Love the return of Ganondorf but the game spoiled the story. I was one of those people who got Memory 1 and the got Memory 8. I was so mad

I love the open world, but I also didn’t get into Zelda until BOTW. I really hope we can get new games of both open world and some linear games, or just a stronger story.

You probably didn't realize, but after getting the first memory and heading to the forgotten temple, the geoglyphs on the walls showcase which order you should investigate in order, while the locations are shown on the floor. I didn't notice at first, but once I did, I found it much more compelling.

@@ocyrussteadt232 Yes I found out after getting memory 8, I just wished the game would force you to do it in order instead of telling you with a mural

@@Dantes61680 Well that wouldn't exactly go in line with the game, seeing as how, with this game and it's predecessor followed one simple rule: Freedom. You can do anything in any order that you choose.

I think the story was good, but that was because I looked up the order of memories. I can understand someone getting the sonia plot twist as their first memory and be like "wtf?" They should have made the story locked like the last tear so you can get it in order. Great vid tho!

TotK is like an abusive parent : you want to love it, and after 6 years apart you think there will be big changes as promised. Instead the former problems are not just present; they are magnified and worse than before. Catching up on those 6 years you find that the promised changes are hollow and shallow and empty and meaningless. And yet that wish for a happy ending still lingers… even though it is completely unearned and undeserved…… 💔

I agree the story is terrible and time travel is so over done in Zelda games and it make’s stories hard to follow or it won’t make any sense yuck. I hate the story a lot especially time travel.😢 (also age of calamity cutscenes are wayyy better than tears of the kingdom cutscenes)

Since I didn't do the Impa quest at first, I did some memories at random and I think I got a very lucky but amazing sequence. I got memories 3 and 5 and knew someone had to turn into a dragon since there was a new one. So I went to check it out, found the master sword (didn't get it yet) and shot the dragon in the head and got a scale. Memory 5 combined with the scale's description had me starting to worry, but nothing was confirmed yet. Then I got the master sword along with memory 18, it went along the idea but still nothing was confirmed (I also firmly denied it). Then I got memory 15. Yeaah all my suspicions were confirmed

THANK YOU. Finally someone who actually understands that the story is just... NOT GOOD. Every single time I bring it up online I'm met with people crying about "b-but Sonia and Rauru and Zelda become sad dragon" Half of the damn cutscenes were THE EXACT SAME , and they relied much too heavily upon us having already known the new sages from botw. At least in botw you can jump into it without feeling a need to know a bunch of stuff, that's why I think it's a great game for new zelda players. But totk so heavily relies upon you already knowing the new sages that you hardly get any meaningful character development for them. This was their opportunity to have the new sages grow as characters, to help us grow a real deep attachment to them like we did to the 4 champions in botw. Instead we got a half assed plot that hardly expanded on anything.

I don't mean this to sound hateful AT ALL so please don't take it like that. Anyway, I find it genuinely fascinating how one person (in this case, you) can find a game to be amazing and having almost nothing to complain about. and then another person (in this case, me) can hardly find a redeeming quality about the game. The game bored me to tears...pun slightly intended. BOtW at least encouraged exploration by making you walk or ride your horse everywhere. This game, however, all you have to do is build something that flies and you go directly to your destination. Half of the fun of BOtW was discovering a million different things while you were heading to your destination. That sense of joy/discovery isn't present in TOtK, especially since we've already been all over Hyrule. The Sky Islands and the Depths don't count since both are DREADFULLY DULL. I found playing this game to be a chore...but I only finished it because I've never NOT finished a mainline Zelda game. Not even gonna attempt to dissect the "story" cuz it's all complete nonsensical BS anyway. Genuinely glad that you enjoyed the game (I mean that). I just thought it was a train wreck of wasted potential

Great video! I was really disappointed by totk’s story, especially since the trailers hinted a some much deeper. I guess I set my expectations too high, but I had really hoped for a more involved role for Zelda in this game, yet I get to passively watch her in memories again. Also, we still have no real answer on who and what the zonai are, where have the others gone besides Rauru and Mineru? Please answer me Nintendo 😂

I'm personally digging the story, but to be fair I really hated BotW because it's story was almost non-existent so this is a step above that. Let's face it, it's no Majora's Mask, but at least there is a lot more going on this time around.

i also think about the fact that she ate the secret stone, which should mean she wouldnt exist as a human and link wouldn’t know her?which also means they wouldve never reawakened ganon? maybe i missed something in the story?
@frrf4695

Eating the secret stone and turning into a dragon doesn't mean that other people would forget her human self. Idk if you remember, but 80% of the quest was to find the whereabouts of zelda which indicates that; by the time link descended from the floating island, zelda already turned into a dragon about 10000 years in the pass yet everyone still remember zelda when link mentioned that she's missing. Otherwise, the knowledge about 'eating the secret stone would turn you into a mindless dragon' would not be passed down.

I do see the flaws in the game, and I've also been wondering where the heck all the tech went from the first game... Like did they get snatched up or destroyed by Ganon? Or was it something to do with the Upheaval that is mentioned time and again in the plot? What did happen during the upheaval aside from Hyrule Castle now being a castle in the sky? So many questions, questions I can only hope get answered in DLC, and if not then maybe never. It should be noted that I haven't played the game myself yet, as I don't own a switch, however I've seen a fair bit on YT so know a general idea.

Def play it if you get a chance. It's really fun. Honestly feels like the writers just didn't want to spend too much time connecting to BOTW in case the player hadn't played BOTW. But that kinda defeats the purpose of making it a sequel in the first place?

Honestly i play totk more than botw but i also beat botw more often than totk i feel like botw was better story wise and totk is better in almost every other regard also i skip more cutscenes in totk compared to botw even though i beat it more the cutscenes are honestly boring in totk and the new champions are basically useless except Yunobo and Tulin imo this games story could've been amazing but it just isn't so in conclusion this game is great but the story is terrible

I agree with most your opinion about the narrative, i respect your opinion and I understand why you didn't like it. But the history did exactly what I expect from a Zelda game. Sacrificed the narrative to not sacrifice my time. I hate cutscenes anyway. I jumped every memory and watched it later. But gave me enough context to fill the world with lore and emotional weight to the events I played. But I do understand how you feel about it.
