Nice to have vs need to have. Spot on! No matter how good of a salesperson you are it's hard to sell nice to haves.

As always, thank you for bringing so much value to us matt!! For someone breaking into tech sales, how do I vet if I’ll be getting a “good” territory before accepting the job offer? Is that a tough question that I should just come out and ask the sdr manager? “Will I be getting a bad territory”
@MattMacnamara4 ай бұрын
Great question. Territory is more of a concern for an Account Executive than it is for and SDR. But I’d still ask questions to understand the territory: -can you walk me through the territory I’d potentially be focused on? Location? Types of companies? ICP? -am I just calling on white space accounts OR can I call on current customers to setup meetings for upsells? In sales, when you are interviewing (and especially when you are new), always assume you are gonna be getting a not so great territory.

While what you said is true, those with an iron stomach can reap the rewards. I equate this career (not job) to poker, you maybe dealt a shitty hand and make no money, good players know how to navigate that. Good players also know when to go full throttle on good hands and maximize it. They also know when they’re at a good table with easy money. While I agree that timing and territory are the biggest factors they also can change and are in flux. (Although I’d say as you mature in your career you tend to get smarter about knowing when a territory isn’t gonna yield and you learn to avoid certain situations). What you can control, talent, will give you the odds over the long game. If you can stomach the highs and lows you can really make this a great career with high earning potential if you focus on what you can do and let go of the rest.

One company told me they would give me a signing bonus but would have to pay it back in a year of I missed quota. Total scam
