I assume that took a complete dash removal? What was the procedure for removing the plate from the dash? Thanks

Yes you will need the dash out of the car, or the windshield to gain access to it. To remove the VIN plate from the dash, you need to drill out the rivots.

I'm just curious as to what you used for rivets when re-installed.. thanks for the tips..

Can you discuss how you went about riveting the tag back to the dash..? Did you cover the tag and rivet heads with tape to prevent scratching or marking..?
@LifeatSpeed Жыл бұрын
Nothing fancy. Just used the correct rivets and a standard hand rivet gun to install them. That's it.

@LifeatSpeed That's good to hear.. The rivets aren't cheap, and I just don't wanna screw it up.. Thanks for the response..!

I completely understand that! Just make sure you have it seated well into the tag and through the dash frame to ensure proper engagement and you should be fine.

When I did my dash frame, I painted it matte black, VIN tag included... then sprayed matte clear over VIN tag.. Not sure of factory process, but seems the VIN tag always looked a little different shade or sheen than the rest of the frame. I could be wrong, but I like how mine turned out.

It's actually not THAT dull. I have some very nice original ones on my cars with paint still on all the 'number & letters' and it's about a 5% to maybe 8% flattened from 'gloss'. Never seen one 'satin' or 'matte' except baked out in a junkyard. Way shinier than the dash frame for sure. The rivets are the same color and shine as the tag.

You cleaned off the digits...Don't think the factory did that

Yeah I made that discovery after I did the extra work.

You might want to make a note to your video for those who don’t read the comments and go ahead and restore their tag in properly. Your video even had me second-guessing what I already knew. Definitely not a correct restoration.

You should mention using the proper rosette rivets
