I've encountered the SRAM brakes swapping which side advances unevenly before and after a bleed. I was at a loss for ages til I came across a video where a Racing Team tech (sorry can't remember which one) would use a screwdriver to push the pad backplate (thus the pistons) back, re-align and repeat until the rotor was nicely aligned in the center of the caliper. I see this as a quick and dirty (literally if you use a dirty screwdriver or accidentally scratch the braking surface) way of achieving the same as the pad advancement technique on a freshly bled system and with new pads. Pad advancement with wheel out, I feel, works best with part worn pads as you have to get both left and right pistons to advance very slightly overcoming what feels like some initial stiction (spelling?). Same feel on G2, elixirs and juicys to date.

I think I have a good one for #AskGMBNTech Haven't seen an episode of it in a long time and honestly do miss seeing them! Now to my question: I have a budget suspension fork on my bike, an SR Suntour XCR32 LO-R Air. The fork has been (just about) flawless and very solid it's 3 years of operation, but I've had to go without any rebound dampening for a couple years or so because of a peculiar issue the rebound cartridge has; the adjustment knob has stopped working and cannot change the dampening. I have tried a suggestion found online where one would have to remove the knob, small hex key in the knob, and fixing bolt the knob snaps into, and then use a 3mm hex key to thread another small bolt inside the cartridge closer to the opening, and then reassemble the knob and bolt. That doesn't work. Would you happen to know any other reasons?

I agree with Anna about high pivot and complex suspension systems. High pivot should be used mainly on downhill bikes where the design has real advantages. However on trail bikes like the Norco Optic, they are unnecessary. They are too complex, noisey, require too much maintenance and negatively affect the climbing aspects of the trail bikes. No one really climbs with a downhill bike, so who cares if the downhill bike has a high pivot? As for suspension design, what the heck is going on? Santa Cruz's VPP is simply problems waiting to happen. Yeti's Switch Infinity has similar issues. The best suspension I have used, and I have used almost all designs, is Kona's Beamer Suspension which is a single pivot linkage driven system. It does everything well, is simple, easy to maintain and lightweight. Way to go Kona!

Spot on: Rohloff, Pinion and other gearboxes/IGHs is the way forward. I would also like to leave all chains in 2024. I have two belt driven bikes, but my family all have chains (which I maintain). I do nothing to my belts, and replace the oil in the Rohloff once a year - if I remember it. But the chains and derailleurs of the rest of the family: Constant maintenance.
@exothermal.sprocket2 күн бұрын
Two things: Weight - yes it's an issue, when it's making your 21 pound bicycle now 26 pounds. Cost - it prices bicycles straight out of affordability for a lot of people; now the frame or wheelset or other components will have to be cheapened to bring the total price back down, and we wouldn't settle for cheapened builds with derailleur bikes. I get that cost over time on a derailleur bicycle is likely nearly as high as the Pinion/Rohloff/Alfine over the span of a decade of use but the up front cost is still a barrier.
@NBM3972 күн бұрын
@@exothermal.sprocket A belt-driven rohlof is not 5 pounds heavier. You must be off your rocker. And since you talk about price; If you compare a Rohloff or a Pinion to cheap external drives, the weight difference is even less. And there are other, cheager gearbox/IGH brands out there: Shimano, Sturmey etc. Don't play it like IGHs are expensive. They are not. Rohloffs and Pinions are. But so are the top deraileur systems from Shimano and SRAM. In fact, since a Pinion or Rohloff is not a derailleur, it will be cheaper in the long run than the top of Shimano and SRAM. And way, way, way less maintenance.
