Actually I purchased a Lexus RX450H 2013 at a Japanese auction. The only downside is it took 31/2 months from purchase to getting it on the road. Covid delays, etc. But worth it. Doing 7.6 litres per 100 kilo using Premium gas. Has air suspension so can lift the car manually, drop the car manually or set at auto where suspension adjusts for weight. Nice feature providing it lasts. Very pleased with it so far.

Hi, I am really enjoying your videos and they are the best in terms of explanations while providing excellent tips for better overall performance. My question is, I have Lexus RX450H 2014 model and there is no option for the driving mode. No knob to choose the driving mode while the EV button is always non functional ( not available). Your kind advice provided I only recently bought the car used with 100K on the clock. Thanks

I'm so glad you're enjoying my tutorials. The Drive Mode Select feature was added to the RX450h in 2016. It is separate from the EV Mode button. The EV mode button, is rarely accessible, from what I've experienced. It requires the hybrid battery charge level to be pretty high. It is really only designed to reduce noise and emissions in parking structures. It is not designed to select when the car is operating in all electric mode. The system will do that automatically for you. Thanks again for being here!

Hi! Keep in mind that the graphic you see in the car is just a summary example. It is not an exact depiction of what is happening with the battery. It is designed to show energy flow and help people learn how to improve their hybrid driving skills. If you're concerned about the hybrid battery health on your vehicle, I would recommend making a service appointment at your Lexus dealer so they can run diagnostics on the vehicle for you. EV mode on a hybrid is limited to very low speeds and for very short distances. On hybrids it was intended to be used in very low speed limit areas or parking garages. It is more about managing emissions and is not for fuel economy on the hybrid setup. EV Mode has a much broader range and application on Plug In Hybrids that have a larger capacity hybrid battery and can driven at higher speeds even on all electric power. I hope this helps. I know it can be confusing.

Did I hear correctly that when you hit the brakes, the actual brakes don’t engage until 5 mph? The braking you experience is the inverter motors braking to charge the battery?
@NorthsideLexus
@NorthsideLexus 3 ай бұрын
Hi! For hybrid models, when you are doing normal braking, the motor/generators on the vehicle will slow the vehicle down when you take your foot off of the accelerator. Then, generally when you reach about 5 - 10 mph, the discs engage. If you are doing emergency braking the discs engage right away for full emergency braking force. Regenerative braking is helps to generate power for the hybrid battery and the brakes typically last longer than on full gas vehicles. Thanks for double checking.

@@NorthsideLexus thank you for the reply. I don’t suppose why the 2020-2022 model RX 450h requires premium gasoline on its naturally aspirated V6 motor?!
@NorthsideLexus
@NorthsideLexus 3 ай бұрын
@@bfurl69 the engines of different models and years are built and programmed differently. Keep in mind that that intake valves have a learning capability, so make sure to look at the Owner's Manual for fuel information. The "Research" octane will get you the best performance and best fuel economy. The "Minimum" octane rating will not harm the vehicle, but the valve timing will adjust to accommodate the lower octane and the performance will not be the same as with the research grade fuel. There were some years where Lexus noted "Premium Fuel Required" on a label inside the fuel door. If your vehicle says that, then premium is what the engine was built to use. 👍

@NorthsideLexus
@NorthsideLexus Жыл бұрын
Hi Adeel, Unless there is something wrong with the hybrid battery, it should not fully charge or fully discharge on the full hybrid vehicles. It is a charging technique used to extend the life of the hybrid battery. The Energy Monitor screen just shows a general summary of the state of charge also. But if something is wrong with the battery or the system, there could be a loss of full charge and the battery would need to be replaced. I hope this helps. Thanks so much for checking in!

Hi! I really enjoyed your video. I had a quick question for you. I recently went on vacation for 3 months and left my UX 250h parked. When I came back the battery was dead, so I had to get it jumpstarted and the car works again. I was told to drive the car to recharge the battery. But when I'm driving I can can only charge the battery to about 3-4 out of 6 bars. Is there enough charge on battery for me to use the car on a regular basis? Or do I need to drive it with more braking to get the battery level higher? Also if I'm away for a long time again in the future, can I start the car and leave it running for a few minutes using enform app? Is this enough to keep the battery going or does it need to be driven? Thanks!
@NorthsideLexus
@NorthsideLexus 3 жыл бұрын
Hi @haloman53916 Thanks for your questions. Here are some tips and explanations that may help. When they jump started your UX 250h, they were jumping the accessory battery and not the hybrid battery. The accessory batteries on the hybrid cars do well with a trickle charger if you are going to be gone for long periods of time. You can ask your dealership's Parts or Service departments if they have one they recommend. When you are looking at the Energy Monitor screen, that battery image represents the hybrid batter and not the accessory battery. It is also just a summary of what is happening with the powertrain and not an exact depiction. The hybrid battery is also designed to not fully charge or fully discharge to help prevent a battery memory. This help to prolong the life of the hybrid battery. Regenerative braking helps to charge the hybrid battery, but not the accessory battery. The engine will also help to charge the hybrid battery when it turns on. The remote starter app can be run for two 10 minute cycles in a row, but after that the car needs to be started with from inside the vehicle. This could be helpful, but not if you are gone for an extended trip. Most people prefer to purchase a small trickle charger and leave it attached in the garage if they are going on a long trip. I hope this helps. Thanks so much for tuning in.

problems you have is that many drivers are impatient and start to hyperventilate when you are slow off the mark or you cruise to a stop. Unfortunately many people can' wait . They drive like their lives depend on it and can't stand slow drivers even though you may be driving at or close to the legal speed. I had a case in point today when turning onto a main road from side street. I had plenty of time but the driver going straight through on the main road was going like a bat out of hell and had to slow down for me. Needless to say I got a bunch of fingers and abuse. People don't want to sit behind someone who is driving normally and within the speed limits.

@NorthsideLexus

Hi! The EV button requires a more substantial charge to be built up in the hybrid battery to support all electric mode. Keep in mind that the EV mode is designed more for driving in parking structures that have very strict emissions rules, very low speeds and very short distance. Otherwise, let the vehicle change automatically from electric power to gas and electric combo as needed. Thanks so much for checking in.

What is the red EV mode on the dashboard screen where you can turn it on or off
@NorthsideLexus
@NorthsideLexus 3 жыл бұрын
Hi @saheddd, EV is Electric Vehicle Mode. This mode allows the vehicle to travel short distances at very low speeds on hybrid battery power alone. It is not always available and the system will tell you if there is not sufficient charge to support it. This mode is about conserving emissions not fuel. This mode puts a lot of demand on the hybrid battery and will require the gas engine to turn on sooner. Depending on where you live, the climate, terrain, etc. it may be best not to use EV mode if you are trying to maximize your MPG. I was told that it was really designed to be used in parking structures in places that have emissions taxes and tolls.

Hi I’ve get my 2021 ES300h recently, I’m just wondering whether the electric generator increases the regenerating force depending on the amount of brake I apply to the paddle. You’ve mentioned in the video that the brake disc won’t engage until 5 mph, so does the brake force all come from the electric generator above 5 mph if I gently slowing down the vehicle?😁
@NorthsideLexus
@NorthsideLexus 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan! It's so awesome to hear you learning so much about your ES Hybrid! The regenerative braking comes from the motor/generators operating in generator mode. They are slowing down the vehicle (unless you slam on the brakes in a emergency and the discs engage). When they slow the car down, they build a load on the generators that is then transferred to the hybrid battery to help maintain the charge. You'll notice that you can't really coast in a hybrid like you can an all gas vehicle. You begin to slow down more noticeably as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator. That sensation is the generators kicking in and slowing the vehicle down for regenerative braking.
@Ryan-nn6hi

@@NorthsideLexus I used to drive a old BMW 735i, and in fact, the ES hybrid coast way more longer when I turn on the ECO mode which will activate the AGC(auto glide control) when I let off the gas. Actually the generator will gradually increase the regenerative power as you gently apply more brake. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKuqoWV_Zc-Yoq8 By the way I’m from Taiwan 😁😁 I’ve learned a lot from you video, many thanks to you 😆

And I am really not flooring it… 2- I turned my “a/c” off but still with the fans on and a temperature set. I noticed that air flow seem to be at the temperature set so I am not sure how to do to set the aircon off and just enjoy air flow from the exterior (without opening the windows ;)) 3- I also notice that my battery usually loses 1 or 2 bars overnight at the garage. I usually only drive 15-20miles per day for my commute so I think the battery never gets the chance to fully charge right ?

Hi Ivan, Congrats on your new IS300h! Sounds like you are a very good hybrid driver. Some quick general notes and then I'll answer each question. Your mpg might lower over time as you have more and more miles driven on the car for the system to average. Always make sure to put the correct and high quality fuel in the vehicle for best performance. 1. 40mpg does seem high, but it sounds like you are driving in a very fuel efficient way. I would continue to monitor and see how you progress with it. We don't have an IS hybrid in the US so I don't have any personal experience driving the model you mentioned. 2. The temperature readout for climate control is the selected temperature the vehicle will reach and maintain when the AC compressor is on and the car is conditioning the air. When you turn the AC Compressor off (no light on the AC feature in the Climate Control screen), then only the fan is blowing .You will not be able to get a temperature readout of the interior cabin air, since there is not an internal thermometer that does this function. 3. The battery usage imagery is just an example of usage up or down, it is not exact. Also, the hybrid systems don't usually full charge or fully discharge the hybrid batteries. It helps to extend the life of the hybrid battery. Hope this helps. Congrats again!

@@NorthsideLexus thanks a lot for taking time to answer my “newbie” doubts :) for the a/c I was confused because I still see temperature indication even though the a/c button is off. Seems weird, should only have the level of fan power then. For the fuel consumption, little by little I see that the consumption drops. Maybe it takes some time to average. I have to finished my first tank of gas yet so I’ll see if the next one is better ;)

@@tuccobuibui You bet! I'm always happy to help. I would give it two or three full tanks of gas before you start considering the "real numbers." Also, make sure to check the per tank average. It will automatically reset for you when you fill up. And you can track the overall mpg, when you look at Fuel After Reset and don't reset it (don't zero out and start over manually). Since you are the only driver of the car it will be factoring your history from for the life of the car. :)

I had a IS300H. I used it just like I would any other car and it was fantastic. But I sold it because it was too low down. Bought a RX450H. Just slide in rather than bend down and quite often hit my head on the top of the door.
