Hey Shaun thanks for the great content again. In the 90's, I worked an FBO on the weekends during college. I had my PPL then. It was common for pilots to not communicate clearly how much they needed exactly. On more than one occasion, I saved a flight because I stopped to ask the question about how many pounds they wanted, and if it were split. While I did defuel quite a few of the mistakes that the pilot would make, one stood out. It was an ASA Brasilia. And they were doing a training flight. Guy asked for 3700lbs per side. I set it and started pumping. But it didn't sound right for a local training flight to be so heavy. I walked to the cockpit and asked them again are you sure you want 3700lbs per side? Because that does not sound right at all for a local flight. Both pilots went flush and said no, stop fueling. They meant 3700lbs split between sides, not total per side. Their paperwork reflected the mistake as well. I used that example to train the next guy, that if it doesn't sound right, ask the question. Keeps from making unnecessary work. And yes, I've been baptized by jetA on the ramp when our single point blew it's seal. Not fun. Fire department, paperwork, and decon. =)

This may be a silly question, but with the fuel being pumped up, does some leak when the hose is disconnected from the plane? Looks like a good way to have a spill...

They actually have the connection system fine-tuned in a way that it doesn't drip anything at all. Perhaps next time I get fueled, I will record the process for you...
@892guns5 жыл бұрын
Im a fueler, the single point fueling adapter doesnt leak any fuel between the adapter and nozzle. Now with that being said, depending on the age of the aircraft it could happen. Had a MD-11 give me a shower of fuel but it wasnt much. just enough to leave me smelling like jet a1 for the rest of the night

Another 'back in the day' comment. I flew a PA28 Turbo Arrow IV (1979 'T' tail) into Goodland KS with 4 adult passengers. Asked the FBO to fill both tanks "to the bottom of the TABS" which I intended to mean basically 1/2 full each side. Left the plane & went to town. Next morning found out line person had thought it meant as much as you can cram into the tanks to overflowing! Now what do I do with a plane 300lbs over G/W at 3,600' elevation and 80° outside? Thankfully I was aware BEFORE I tried to takeoff!
@chipblock28545 жыл бұрын
I have fueled this type of aircraft nothing to it except for the position of the fuel connection. You have to squat down while trying to connect the fuel line. The fuel head is around 29 lbs so it can be awkward. Many other corporate jets are easier.
@boatlover18755 жыл бұрын
Seems kind of complicated. My only experience was working at a small ground station with Dash 8s. Since I'm curious, I went over and talked to the fuel guy one day. We'd call them and tell them what the needed fuel load was from the dispatch. The fuel went in under the number 2 engine and their was a gauge for each wing tank. If we wanted 2,500 pounds he would look for 1,250 in each wing. Really not sure if the pilots had to do anything, they could tell if they did not return a switch to the proper position. Really didn't look all that precise to me. Didn't seem to be any such feedback for the fueler on the Hawker.
@scottrichardson62265 жыл бұрын
the fueling system on your G1V wasn't hte same as what I was used to, we had a clean fuel panel, master switches and good gauges. what you showed is what I would expect after a crash?

There's another stud right next to the fuel port. You can see it in this video at 03:35 . It's right next to the micro-switch. You can see that the metal rib where it's located has been stripped of paint from people grounding to the airplane, unlike the other rib which has it's white paint.

what would be a normal fuel load for Hawker and the G IV
@CorporatePilotLife5 жыл бұрын
Normal will vary from one flight to the next, but max fuel in the hawker is 10,000 pounds, and 29,500 for the G-IV. As an example, a 2 hour flight would be around 5,500 pounds in the Hawker and 10,000 pounds in the G-IV including reserves.
