It should be possible to have a magnetic bracket to enable fast switching of accessory printheads; Extruder, CNC laser or Pe. A simple magnetic rack above the printer could be used to hold unused printheads out of the way. Swop-ins definitely are the way to go. Very nice video by the way.

Great prints using a ballpoint pen. I am a designer my self and would recommend using an art rapidograph pens from the brand micron. They are easy to buy and come in sizes ranging from .005 mm to 8.0 mm. I use a .005 mm and a .10 mm pen in my plotter it would make a difference in your plane and bike test prints.

Hi Tech2C I am busy building your machine and while I am, I am building 2 machines on top of each other. The Z extrusions I use are 1 meter long, in stead of 350mm. so that it enables me to stack 2 machines on top of each other, both having 50cm of room. The first machine is already finished and working, and it's printing the parts for the second machine at this moment. The second machine (at the bottom) could be the machine that is gong to have multiple ways of usage. I would love to have a way to assemble PCB's here. Can you imagine. One rack with two machines that are capable of making a PCB and it's housing at the same time? Thank you so much for making this printer. Can't wait until you have your updates.
@Tech2C7 жыл бұрын
Hello 3d Print Creator, Wow, you're building 2 stacked on top of each other? That's wonderful! I had thought the Z extrusions we buy could remain at the 1 metre length and then stack up to 3 Hypercubes within. Well-done for making this a reality. Yes you'll be able to create a multi-purpose Hypercube stack - 3D Printing/Plotting/Milling/Engraving all in one.

Well the 20x20mm aluminum wont be strong enough to mill anything except maybe thin ply. And even then you will probalby have to much play in your xy-gantry. With a 5W laser diode you will probably be able to engrave on wood. maybe even cut thin stuff. But be carefull then. Those lasers could really damage your eyes even if its just reflected from your printerframe. Im currently designing a multifunctional machine myself but i plan on using 80x80 alu extrusions and even then fem amalysis says that its probably to weak to really mill hard materials. But all in all good luck with converting it :) its really a nice idea
@Tech2C7 жыл бұрын
Yes I'll discover the limits of the Hypercube with the mill. Agreed working with lasers safety first! I'll get the tinted glasses before I begin that part.

Very cool. Reminds me a little of when I was building my Hypercube: before it had a Z-axis and build plate, I tested out its X&Y axis by taping a pen to the X-carriage, holding a piece of paper up to the pen and running a print of a name plate. It was a bit shaky due to the appalling build platform(!) but my daughter was delighted to see it drawing her name. Another option to add to the laser cutter + drill options is a paste squirter: attach a syringe + plunger and get it squirting out icing sugar or polyfilla...
@Tech2C7 жыл бұрын
Cool! Syringe is a great idea, and 3D printing edible substances will be the next chaptor after the usual attachments.

@Lundev_7 жыл бұрын
Nice video ;) The laser module is a great idea but I doubt a 3D printer is strong enought to serve as a mill, just see how the XY carriage wobble when you are pressing on it. You can still try it but it will certainly won't cut hard materials.
@Tech2C7 жыл бұрын
I agree. I'll see how far I can go with it for milling. Maybe if the movement speed is really slow it could handle certain materials, but as you say, milling hard materials would be difficult.
@FranzzInLove7 жыл бұрын
Lundev I Star Citzen there's mpcnc for that :)
@Lundev_7 жыл бұрын
François I totally agree but the mpcnc has been designed for that, I was just saying that milling with a hyper cube (and most of other 3d printers) aren't designed to be sturdy enough to allow milling and that's totally fine since they are 3d printers 😉
@FranzzInLove7 жыл бұрын
Lundev I Star Citzen I know, you're totally right.
@anvz67 жыл бұрын
You should use inkscape. It has a gcode generator for driving CNC machines that can do this perfectly.
@hoverhead0477 жыл бұрын
I like what you've done here, I'm sure there are programs that will produce printer/plotter gcode for more effective plots. As for making a CNC router type machine, such a machine would have to have a very small cutting head and operate fairly slow as the 3d printer's frame would be designed to cope with the new lateral forces generated by a milling/routing operation. From my experience with pen plotters the pen is lifted off the paper by solenoid and use gravity or spring to cause contact between the ball and the paper.
@CemKalyoncu7 жыл бұрын
Or use inkscape gcode tools. They are designed to convert 2D graphics into plots that can be printed using a 3D printer with a pen, just like yours.

Great info on abusing Cura to get good results. You might look at inkscape and its included gcode plugin. You might not have to make any/many adjustments. Your axes are not likely stout enough to mill with. I won't tell you to not try, just don't expect great results.

There should be a glue stick holder. Maybe have a Cura or slic3r config that has the nozzle diameter as the diameter of the glue stick, and lays down a layer only right where you need it. Maybe have it just clipped to the side of the carriage and run with the offset for dual extruders setting, so when the glue is down, you just take off the glue stick and print as normal. Maybe even load that gcode into your intro code, and wait for user to confirm to move forward after the glue code is finished. Glue stick bot!
