this worked for me 3.30.22 thanks again. i got the error about half way through and ran "esentutl/g and esentutl/p" which didnt instantly solve it. but when i went to start over and deleted the log file. after the reboot it booted normally. whew. thanks so much ^_^

Ok solved in a weird way... As I restored a backup from a windows image backup set, I had to roll back the VM clock to the date/time of the restored backup. That helped to restart the machine correctly. Then I moved back the clock at the current time and it worked!

Hi. First of all thank you for your query. Now coming to the technical point. I can guess you are having only one DC into your network. Since you haven't any other DC so, the rolling back the time stamp to the previous one is the only solution which you done later successfully. It's always a good practice to host more than 1 DC into a network so that you can restore the last updated version of the AD Database on the corrupted DC. Good day. I was looking for this solution for days until I saw this exactly the same as my problem, but when I get to the part at minute 10:08, after typing "active instance ntds" and hitting enter it gives me this error: "Failed to parse input - invalid syntax" From then on, my hands were tied and I didn't know how to continue. I left putting "quit", again "quit" and "exit". I restarted the server and followed the steps again from minute 9:04 but the same thing happens: "active instance ntds" appears again the error "Error parsing input - invalid syntax". Is there any way to fix it? I'm surely doing something wrong, but I don't see where; I followed the steps one by one. Thanks in advance for your help and to be able to solve this problem with the server and have the DC active again.

You can try the below solution: In case of ntdsutil command failed then boot into DSRM and start a command prompt esentutl /g "C:\Windows\NTDS tds.dit"/!10240 /8 /v /x /o esentutl /p "C:\Windows\NTDS tds.dit" /!10240 /8 /v /x /o NOTE: Delete the database log files from the Ntds folder but Don't delete or move the Ntds.dit file.
