I got my A71 (8GB ram) a month ago and it's a really good daily midrange phone. However, the battery consumption isn't as good I thought it would've been but coming from my previous phone, it's good enough. Maybe it's just my phone😂 The One Ui 2.1 update on the a71 is really good. There are a lot of new camera features that are from the samsung flagship devices and I'm really impressed

NO. i still want a smartphone, I just want to be able to hold it with one hand and reach across the screen with the hand im holding it with. I was happy when phones were the size of iPhone SE and SE 2. Then people started asking for bigger phones and the option for a smaller phone was removed all together on the android side. I actually thought the iPhone 5S was too big even back then when it came out cause the screen was taller and I could no longer reach the top of the screen with my thumb. I have a OnePlus7 now and it's way to big. I get hand cramps and wrist pain all the time just holding it. I use my phone 7-8 hours per day. Phones are not ergonomic or comftarble to use anymore like they used to be.

A_ DissidenT Why should this person get a flip phone? That has to be the saddest argument I have ever seen. There are still a ton of people who prefer smaller phones. To prove this, Apple is making an iPhone 12 that will be smaller in size compared to the current SE. Not only that, but the Pixel 4a is going to be the only good compact phone on the Android side until other manufacturers start making them. The only other compact Android phone that I can think of is the Galaxy S10e, but Samsung did not make a successor which is a shame.

Honestly they are both great. Went for the A71 because I was able to get 8gb of ram and the expandable storage just helpes the future proofing for the 3 years of software updates promised by samsung. If they make due on their promise ill consider them in the future. I like the direction of One UI. I remember the days of TouchWiz. It was so bad that I didn't use a samsung for years and even doubted the A71 but to my surprise ONE UI is responsive and actually has features I like such as the samsung keyboard and the slide tray window that can be customized. Is it perfect? nah. It is pretty darn good? yes. We are so lucky that we even have this kind of tech in the freaking palm of our hands. 2020 turned to be a good year for midrange blower. Not missing my iPhone 6S although its incredible that a phone from 2015 is running the latest software. Perhaps if andriod OEMs focus on less and deliver more when it comes to software uldates they really would give apple a run for their money. We shall see. Why would I ever buy another flagship again ?

I was starting to get a bit upset. It was quite clear your biased towards samsung. But then you finally threw in the camera comparison. Thank you. Of course, most of us couldn't care less about macro or wide. Whats important to most users is stability. Can you take a picture, free hand, without the results mostly turning out blurry. Not everybody wants to carry around a gimble or whatever or a stand to put the phone/camera on just to take a quick snapshot. Really glad you ended up choosing the pixel. The past several days and even weeks I've been 'shopping' around. Trying to decide on what I want. I've been coming to you and your channel for a lot of reviews and information. So it was nice to see that your not completely biased towards samsung. You chose pixel here but this video has me leaning more towards the a71. However, the difference between 6gb of ram and 8gb of ram is NOT a small matter. 1/3 more ram is a pretty BIG difference. For me the biggest difference and the reason I'm leaning towards the 71a is the external memory card slot. Google really needs to get it's head out of it's gdrive, and other online storage options for their mobile devices. I like gdrive but I prefer options and I prefer non-online storage. Crap, I didn't mean to ramble.... I like your work and you just got another sub. But please, swerve away from the bias towards samsung.

I currently have the samsung galaxy a51 (likely returning it tomorrow though) and i think camera-wise its identical in specs to the a71. My issue with the camera is it looks overly processed and strange, my dark brown hair reads incredibly red(even after switching my display to natural, and when i look at the photos taken on the a51 on a different device, still very red and warm toned) the recent camera update seems to of made the photos look slightly better, i dont look like im wearing a mask as badly but i still....its off and in low light, its really not great. That being said my mom, sister and brother also have these phones and like them. I think because i had plans to use the phone for youtube, my critical eye is a bit more of a necessity. Video looks ok, the selfie cam does 4k but KZbin doesnt right now so thats kind of not a huge deal. I honestly panicked after getting the a51 and went back to motorola, my old phone is a motorola and i love the camera for selfies. I ended up getting tjr one zoom......and i think im returning that too, the photos have this almost blue undertone to them and the video flips (mirrors? Whatevr you call it when it reverses the image, like if my hair parts to the left in real life, its on the right on the vidoe footage and oddly enough gives my nose a crooked look that i don't get when the video isnt flipped) so i have to use editng software to fix that everytime i film a video. The camera quality is clearer but i cant get rid of the bluish hue. I cant go with a google pixel though, i NEED the micro sd storage slot.

@@TechDaily lol im a hot mess at this point😂😂 I actually have been looking into the Xperia 1, it was a bit more expensive than I was initially looking to spend but I think its gone down slightly since the xperia 1 ii came out so i might return both the a51 and the one zoom and try the xperia 1. A few people also suggested the asus zenfone 6 but I dont think they make it anymore, I can't find it anywhere except a random one on amazon for a lot more than what it should actually cost. At one point I began debating returning the one zoom and trying to find a good actual camera for around $450-500 instead of spending more than $500 on a phone solely for the camera but all the cameras people recommend most cost a bit more than that. Decisions are hard 😂

Thanks so much for such a thorough and clear review - I'm currently trying to choose between these two for Christmas. I am upgrading from my 4 year old Samsung J5 which has really done me well with no issues, but it's just a little slow now and I'd like a better camera. I'm not used to having a huge phone so that's what putting me off a bit from the samsung this time round. The main important things to me are having the best camera for the price that takes crisp pictures as I take a lot for my small business, as well as the ability to record video in good quality and ideally the option of smooth slow-motion shots. 2nd I'd like it to last throughout the day with medium use of browsing and social media, maybe some streaming of KZbin etc.. 3rd it needs to be good enough quality to last me at least 3 years. From your review I feel like the Pixel 4a might be best for me? What do you think?

Similar performance.. Main camera, better on the 4a BUT you didnt mention the ultra wide of A71 is one of, if not the best in midrange category.. For me, ultrawide is now a must for mobile cameras.. Also, when using google camera on A71, it produces same result with P4A for main photos.. You should try Google camera mod on your A71 its amazing on low lights..

Really torn between these two phones. One one hand, I watch a ton of media and play a lot of games, so a larger screen would be really convenient(this also means the mono audio may be a significant negative though). On the other hand, I really like smaller phones for the ease of use, carrying around, and because my current small phone, which is roughly the size of the 4a fits perfectly in the cubby in my truck... With the A71 on sale at $299 with Google FI, it seems like a hell of a good deal, but the Pixel 4a is just a good phone and $349 is still a reasonable price. I hate buying shit....

Not sure if you've made a decision yet, but I'm probably going back to my 3A after using my A71 for 4 months or so. It's not a bad phone, but stock android for me just works better and is smoother. Standby battery life on my A71 has been terrible too, it drops 15% overnight. Then 30% of my battery during the day is lost due to standby. It is great for KZbin and films though, it has a great screen. But I'm fairly sure on downgrading back to the 3a and then in a few months I'll buy a discounted 4a. Performance is almost identical on both A71 and the 3a, so I'd imagine the 4a is better. Just my opinion! Edit - worth adding that if using the A71 constantly, the battery is much better. Just drains really fast if not using it a lot.

I'll go for the pixel, it has the camera performance of the regular pixel 4. And to me pixel 4 camera are just better than iPhone 11 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S20. Plus i think this phone are better than the regular pixel 4 in certain ways, for example it's better in battery life and better screen to body ratio.

8:26 I know you said there wasn't much of a difference between the displays, but here you can really see that white looks much more natural on the Pixel 4a. It looks way too blue on the A71.

FYI you can adjust color temperature on A71.. Im not sure you can do that on the pixel.. Pixel's white is not natural, its a bit warm.. natural white is same with IPS panels and its closer to the one you see here on A71.. I like warmer whites though so it wont hurt my eyes, thats why I set my A71 to warmer color temp..

I mostly use my phone to watch KZbin, read emails, and do social media so having the 5000mah battery makes sense. I have both phones. The 4a is the more reliable / comfortable phone. I had the a71 8gb international version since june. But i had to switch to Verizon because i moved in August, and the mountains out here make verizon a better choice. So i needed CDMA. Samsung's UI is clunky and slow. The pixel is smooth and fast with no glitches. The speed of taking shots is similar to an iPhone. The Samsung is slow when taking a shot. If something is happening quickly and.ypu need the shot. The Samsung delay is atrocious. The pixel is superior in many ways. But i do miss the 8gb of ram.

@@jessepinkman485 depends on what you're looking for. The pixel is a 4:3 12mp camera. 16:9 takes it to 9mp. However.. the pixel looks sharper. The a71 has 64mp and i thought the photos to look great. But details in photos on the samsung softens the details out. I also had trouble taking a photo of my computer monitor. It likes to soften text on the display. Annoying to me. The pixel points and shoots fast! The camera feels instantaneous. similar to iphone speed. The camera on the galaxy is a lag when compared. Both cameras have features that are special on both. Both have night mode. The galaxy has more aspect ratios and ultra-wide lense. The ultra wide is the only part of the A71 i miss when it comes to camera. The more expensive pixels i believe have the ultra-wide cameras.

Pixel 4a (own a note 10+ and pixel 3xl) if i had to choose, rather have one reliable, sharp overall fantastic camera than multiple ones that are okay-ish. Also assured software updates.

It's a matter of preference. For me, the Pixel 4a caters to what I care about in a phone. The battery lasts a bit longer. I don't like when my battery gets too low, it gives me anxiety. The smaller screen doesn't really bother me. I have a big phone right now and it's a big undertaking trying to maneuver efficiently with one hand so I am looking forward to the more ergonomic size on the pixel. Also it's display does have more pixels per inch than the A71 which feels like you're not really compromising . Also the camera on the Pixel *chefs kiss*

What I looked for first is expandable memory. I'm only choosing the best budget phone from amongst the phones that have this feature. Plus, right now, A71 is $480 for the 6GB RAM version and the Pixel 4A is $680 CAD. A71 seems like the obvious choice.

Rear camera of 4xl is miles better than S20u (I own both). More options don't make a device superior if the output is shittier. Also you can check image comparisons of pixel and other devices in 600$ price range. Apart from iphone SE, nothing comes close to 4a in both rear and front shooters

I think samsung phones offer 2 year warranty instead of the standard 1 year warranty on iPhones...this should be a factor included in the reviews. Imagine just after 12 months , if the iPhone becomes faulty your stuck...if you go down the official repair process, it's going to be very expensive, excluding Applecare !!

I can see that you are a bit biased to the 4A over the A71. The A71 has a larger battery capacity and its screen is Super Amoled Plus. The Plus is said to make screen power consumption more efficient hence makes the battery lasts longer. UI is subjective and 4A might be more optimized than A71 for some apps. A71 has more advantage over the 4A but both are still good though. Maybe I will buy the A71 over 4A because of the accessibility in my region.

Both are great phones, and really, really similar. I'd have bought a Pixel 4a, but it isn't officially available in my country and importing it means having to pay more than double the actual price of the phone (it can go up to $750+!), so I ended up buying the Galaxy A71 the other day. I'm still waiting for it to arrive on the mail, but I think I'll be quite happy with it :-) Great video, by the way!

It's a love hate relationship for me when it comes to large phones. I have a Galaxy A50 which is a large phone but not as big as the a70 series. Very hard to use it with just one hand, however I watch a lot of videos and it would be very hard to go back to a small phone. I also love Samsung's UI and having expandable memory is beautiful.

General camera performance on the Pixel 4a is sluggish since Google forces the processor to do a lot of pre and post processing of images. It also explains why video quality is subpar. For 350.00 though, you are still getting a decent phone. The A71 looks better and appearance does count for something with the younger crowd. It’s not an easy choice as both phones are pretty decent.

The 4a is a good looking phone. I have a pixel 4 xl and the software is seriously what makes these phones great plus I like the design. No duplicate apps or bloat ware and I always get fast updates. It’s august 12th and I just got the July security patch on my note 10 a few days ago. That’s extremely pathetic. Samsung is still pushing out android 10 and its been near a year already.

Just buy the Samsung A71 you won't regret it, it is a great phone with a ton of features, I used mine about 3times in almost torrential downpour no issues at all, I had a normal case on mine, just get a tight waterproof case and you are golden. The phone seems big at first but it is very manageable. The feature set is amazing and has one of the best smartphone batteries, I charge mine once in 2 days sometimes three with a screen runtime between 6 to 8 hours. As soon as 5G becomes more widespread A71 5G straight up.

Google packs in many AI features and options that other phones don't have. Just to name some: Live captions, call screening, what's on my screen, driving mode, etc. And google adds "feature drops". Your phone will get all these AI features for 3 years, free.

To be honest, there are cheaper yet better alternatives to the A71. That's why I personally think that the A71 is a bit unnecessary.
