This guy is the definition of objective. Even talks like a normal person when saying that some people aren't fussed about utilising 100% of the capabilities of the smart phone when talking about day time or night time shots. Some of us only buy a phone once every 2 or 3 years, and not all of us can afford a $2,000 phone and sometimes we're just chasing a regular size with a good battery and camera. Other YTubers talk from a position of endless cash, like you know they can easily pick and choose any phone they like; so they don't talk from a perspective of objectively looking at 6 different phones in order to find a balance that suits our needs. OP can obviously can pick and choose, but doesn't talk like an arrogant prick that can pick and choose. I respect that.

I think that's absolutely what they're moving towards. Using the Pixel 3axl for a year now, no degrades in performance, always updated, powerful camera, fast charging, long battery life... There is literally nothing I'd trade about this phone. And it was cheap.

i upgrade based on how much life i can get out of it. my pixel 2xl is on its last year of updates. its showing its age and its slowing down. its still a great phone but im going to upgrade this year. I skipped the P4 because it was hot garbage phone that google saw fit to price at 800 bucks with a shit battery. If it wasn't for the pixel 4a i was completely ready to jump ship to apple. I want to see what apple has to offer but i might get this pixel 4a. Pixel phones only get three years of support so I dont think you should ever compare it to a phone that gets 5 years of support in my opinion.

In the restricted US market maybe, but the rest of the world has far better phones within the same value range. For a democratically advanced economy, it is weird to have to refer to the US differently to other first-world economies, where choice and value are far more widespread. Consumers really miss out over there, the P40 Pro is currently £800 with £250 free gifts, the Sony Xperia 1-11 is under £800, the Nord is £380, the Poco F2 Pro is £400, etc. Competition drives prices down and therefore something like the Pixel 4a in Europe is just another cheaper device whereas in the US it is hyperbolical mania!

There is definitely a broad spectrum of things to look for in a device. If you prefer a processor, then there are good value devices. If you need those things above, then the pixel is _also_ a value device.

A phone with great nightshots is necessary for me living in Finland. I live in the south and in the winter its dark when you go to work and dark when you get back from work.. (07:00-15:00) So you cant get any decent shots without a good camera.

It is great at night shots but so are Huawei phones and I got a P30 Pro for £560 with free gifts worth £230 and it is a far superior phone to the 4a in every way (still receives Google services). Also, there are many apps that do the same thing as the night mode that you can use on any phone.

@Aurelius probably you haven't used a huawei phone earlier. Their night mode is no joke. My $100 huawei phone can see in a full blacked out room. Huawei phones are generally number 2 on camera comparison with samsung phones. And hardware wise too they are really decent. It's just the fucking ban on them this year that ruined the p40 phones cause they are one of the best phones this year.

Google night sight was honestly one of the biggest leap forward in mobile photography we've had in a long time. Apple did manage to kinda catch up, but clearly they weren't able to make it backward compatible. The fact that Google has back ported it to all existing Pixel phones going back to the first one (as well as many other amazing Pixel features such as the Recorder, call screening, etc) is amazing and I think should be applauded more.

Pixel 4a is made for those in budget or those who only wants the essentials anyway. As someone who always used mid range smartphone for a long time, pixel 4a looks like a very respectable phone for its price to value.

@@cwijaya12 Weird, I don't have trouble with temperature and I'm using it for both youtube and game quite a lot. About battery I changed it with a 3rd party brand battery once like 2 years ago, and it still provides a very respectable daily battery life to this day. Maybe you often charge it while doing some activity that's very battery draining to it at the same time? If so then I can see how it can get so hot while at the same time reducing the battery life significantly.

If it starts slowing down, you can always root it and install a new custom ROM. There are so many tutorials I recently tried it on my 5yr old lenovo and installed nougat from pixel and the ui is so fluid. It feels like a new phone but it has just 2 GB ram

Pixel 4a still has a 5.8" screen... By comparison, Pixel 1 XL had a 5.5" screen, and (new) iPhone SE has a 4.7" screen. So it's definitely not a "small" phone. It's just not Samsung Note 6.8" big though.

I think you missed one segment of people looking to buy the 4a: enthusiasts who understand usecase. I love tech, but I don't necessarily push my phone to it's theoretical limits. I don't game on my phone. I don't have intensive photo editing suites on my phone. I just want great battery life, and a great user experience (stock android). I want a phone that gets the latest version of Android as soon as it launches, every year. I want the continued feature rollouts. I want a great camera. My 2XL did that for me, and I think the 4a offers the same and more at a price point that makes sense for my usecase.

I love my 4a! It fits in my right hand. I do everything with my thumb and hardly ever do I ever have reach over with the other hand. I really like the high dot pitch OLED. It's got the smallest pixel that any phone has from what I can tell. $100 phones used to be fine for me but they just don't work anymore, they're way too slow and when they start dropping CPU speed that's when I start thinking about maybe finding another phone. You can't beat this phone for the value, you just can't beat it. Google, word of advice. Keep making 4a's and I'll keep buying them.
