Thanks! Been a Vegas fan for many years and good to see what they've dropped in this release.

The beat detection and new multi-clip selection feature without the selection tool engaged are both huge work savers if you're editing music videos, you can create beats off-board and import them directly and your edit timeline is laid out for multi-track music mixing with that and the new match audio for multi-cam features. One of the big draws for me with Vegas, for years, is how easy the mousewheel zoom to the edit timeline makes manipulating large numbers of diversely-sized clips a breeze. For users of a mouse and without a dedicated edit/roto tool, this function alone is an incredible time saver and makes the workaday functions of putting an edit together on the timeline much more ergonomically intuitive and natural

Although I think the AI sharpen, smooth, and upscale tools (which they've had since at least 21, dunno if the sharpen/smooth outside of upscale is a new thing) do a great job on, for example, footage from lower-res digital cameras from the early 00's, I do find such features much more robust and effective on their esteemed competition's side. But as you point out, this is meant for the standalone user not the collaborative pro, and you'll pay a pretty subscription penny to maintain any of those features for any length of time with the other guys. Vegas is right-sized for a lot of youtubers and even professionals who need consistent and easily achievable results and where such whiz-bang features and capital and labor commitment are not requirements.

I used vegas for the first 10 years of my career and then had to quit because the features were just not there. Calling it the swiss army knife for a 1 man band is a stretch though lol - It can handle handle most things you will need I agree, but so can any of the big competitors. If editing is a hobby to you, vegas will be the easiest software to learn by far. The Pan and Crop UI and other things are amazing. It is intuitive and a one time purchase. Davinci free version is probably better but its more difficult to learn. But you will also have 100x more creators creating content that will explain everything you need to know compared to just a few sony vegas educators. If you want to try vegas, get one of those charity bundles and get a previous version and upgrade from there if they earned it. The developers pretty much ignoring the community for so many years was difficult, I quit the software a few years ago because you could not even export reels in 4k lol, I hope things are better now. Thanks for the video and the insights!

I got the feeling over the years Vegas/Magix or whoever was holding back on features purposely to give a reason for the yearly upgrades, it always felt like they wanted to aim just short of what the current idea of a "complete" feature set would be, like your example of the inability to export 4K without a cheat, they went years beyond the lack of that feature being a deal-breaker. They did similar with lower resolutions as they came into favor, color/lumin space, stereo/VR, motion and corner tracking, auto masking, everything 3D...and the way they brought some features in via bolt-ons and and effects packages was criminal, like when they collabed with FXHome to bring out another whole bit of kit to do auto rotoscoping

Can you convert IPhone MOVs to MP4s with the software? Looking to upgrade from Vegas 17. I know over the years Vegas has had many issues with that file type. I've used AVC video converer to convert the files to MP4s, but never been 100% on the way it converts them. I've looked at Adobe Express for conversions, as I already have Lightroom and photoshop.

@@JonackFilm yeah, only its render is hundreds of times slower than that of davinci resolve. I'm talking 180-200 fps resolve vs 15-25 fps vegas with the same video and basic effects. That's why i'm not a not a vegas user, though i really like the rest of vegas except its performance. Vegas scripting is much more powerfull also more complex, working with audio is so much streamlined in vegas and many features that makes vegas really unique and convenient, but its performance cancels all of that for me, i just don't have the time to wait 45 minutes clip reader for 3 hours when i can render it in 15 minutes in davinci resolve.
@JonackFilm3 ай бұрын
@@rightOrWrongMyContry I think that some Export settings are different then. I can deliver 4k60 fps in some minutes with the right settings. Depends strong what you say to Vegas. DaVinci is easier in this
@rightOrWrongMyContry3 ай бұрын
@@JonackFilm I tried different render settings and none of them would surpass davinci render speed. So, for vegas you actually need much more powerful pc than for davinci resolve, which is funny, because a while back i could do some basic editing in vegas pro 16 on an intel computestick WITHOUT A DEDECATED GRAPHIC CARD, 4GB RAM!! wouldn't even install on this pc, but vegas could actually operate.

Is there better support for exporting videos in 8K though? I'm using an older version that allows me to edit in 8K but not export into 8K. Getting better 8K support would give me a pretty good reason to upgrade to this version.

Can I ask a question. I know you video is in 1080p, but for some reason, your bitrate of your video is still to low that even the text of Vegas Pro isn't very clear right down to the pixel. You may want to render your videos in even higher bitrate to compensate for KZbin compression.
@TechDiveAVCLUB4 ай бұрын
If you watch it at 1080p it's crisp. It was captured at 1080p with only a slight crop in. It was uploaded as h.264 so KZbin didn't have to apply any further compression to the HD version.
@Grid214 ай бұрын
@@TechDiveAVCLUB I also think probably your OBS Recording settings are incorrect as well, so that adds to the bad quality look by the time it hits KZbin. I would suggest using CQP at 16 or 20 quality setting, and then rendering out at HVEC with a 24Mbps video which will look a LOT MORE SHARP. (Side note, I've been doing this for 15 plus years, so I have a lot of experience this field as well.) Hope that helps with your future videos. :)
