WORKED! Once I was connected on Steam I removed the "-TCP", restarted Steam and it works like before the glitch! (x I'm a computer nerd, but I would have never thought of doing that. Concise and easy to follow (: I don't think you need to close the app manually like that in Task Manager, but that may be covering his ass in case it was a different problem. I believe the fix was simply changing the variable "Target" from... "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" to ""C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -TCP" (Don't forget the space before -TCP)

Bro seriously I thought this was a scam, and none of them were working until I did the command prompt one, so if none of these ones are working for you guys, just try to command prompt one. It looked risky so I looked up every command to see if it was legit and not some system32 shut down, you can do the same if you don't trust me, but if you guys want a fix, it's that one that worked for me.

After trying all of these, it helped me realize that one of my game files was corrupted and was causing the error for me. The solution was to go into my C drive and delete steam from the program files and then re-install. thanks for the video!

i was having a connection problem myself it wanted me to type in my password but then it would tell me after a few minutes that there was no connection i got mine working again by having them send my a steam guard code for confirmation and that worked for me if you are having the same issue try that if you haven't already

This is what worked for me. I went to the Virus and Threat Protection>Add or Remove Exclusions>+ Add an Exclusion> Steam Folder. I guess you are right about antivirus preventing steam to connect. My steam got this error after my system automatically updated Windows 10 virus and protection stuff. THANKS!

I couldn't fix it with the steps above. After the last step I disabled the adapter in the Network and Sharing Center, and then run the troubleshooter (which reenabled it, as expected), and that fixed it. Thank you for the ideas though.

i have this problem when i'm trying to play multiplayer, it says "failed to get steam account information, your equipment has been returned to you". then I can only click "resume". when I try playing singleplayer, it says "unknown username" where it's supposed to say my username. i've tried everything, restarting my laptop, restarting steam, verifying integrity of game files, clearing steam download cache. nothing works.
