This was tbh subtly biased towards Apple. Android's app support is genuinely better than iPadOS simply due to the fact that you can sideload any app you want, regardless of whether its on the store or not. And DeX is a far bigger deal than you gave it credit for.

DEX is such a game changer for me, that I have days at work when I don't even have to pull out my work laptop because I can use DEX to do pretty much everything. Spreadsheets, PDF, Word documents, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and even Google Remote Desktop. Unless you need very specific Windows apps for certain things, DEX can basically do everything that you need that a laptop would do. The crazy part is that I spent the first couple of months thinking it was a gimmick. Once I started using it, I realized that my tablet could do more than just allow me to watch movies and read some Kindle books. Once you start using DEX it's a far bigger deal than what anyone gives it credit for. If Apple had done this with the iPad Pro everyone would be talking about how great it is. It's amazing that when reviewers are touting new Android tablets, the capabilities of DEX are purposefully left out.

Samsung needs to break the support barrier of professional video and image editing apps and others. For this, it must leave the smartphone CPUs and go to PC CPUs, such as the Snapdragon X elite, just as Apple uses the M4 CPUs on tablets. S10 ultra with Snapdragon X Elite X1E-84-100

I'm currently on an iPad, even though the rest is Android and Windows, I would still prefer the Samsung tab because of the pencil features such as quick translation, I tend to appreciate Android ecosystem and Samsung's work over it a bit more. The iPad is great, but it depends what usage to plan to do with it since both of them offer a great experience

I would say, the benefit of having Android does not bring the S10 high enough to outweigh the superiority of the iPad even if you do have an Android. If you're a frequent tablet user in 2024, the best thing to do is get the iPad then for your next phone upgrade, get an iPhone.

I ended up with the S10 ultra. I mostly use a tablet to watch KZbin videos and web browsing so the extra computational power wouldn’t be very important for me. The aspect ratio and price ended up being the most important factor.

I took 2 pieces of printer paper and made a mockup of the tablet's size and felt it was fine before buying it. The S10 Plus would leave a bigger gap between my monitor and the tablet which I didn't want. I do think sometimes it's too big when moving the tablet. What I wish was better was the slim keyboard case (the one without the trackpad). It's a bit floppy and wish it was more stiff and if it was more stiff it'd be easier to move the tablet around with 1 hand.

I just got an M4 iPad Pro 1 TB 13” and the screen is a hair bigger but the aspect ration makes everything smaller than my old 2nd gen iPad Pro 13”. You get a bigger screen but everything you see is smaller. What a sucker I am. 😢 Battery doesn’t last long on the iPad or Apple Pencil. And I have the same problem on my new M4 $2000 iPad Pro that I had on my 2nd gen iPad Pro, that after watching multiple videos on Instagram, the vids. start to freeze up and I have to turn off iPad and restart to get them to play correctly. Only happens on Instagram.

I want to leave my take on the S10 Ultra. I had iPads for a long period, I had from the first iPad to the iPad pro of 2020. In all these years not a single issue, no lag, no errors not single issue. I have switch to the S10 Ultra for it's aspect ratio for content. I have had the tablet for 4 months and I have non stop issues, it’s a complete nightmare. Even when writing this small review I took me out of what I was writing two times. I can even hold the device because it somehow behaves in very frustrating manner it's always jamming in the KZbin app, I even have to shutdown the device for it to work again. I have the samsung keyboard and for no reason it shifted from qwerty to aserty. I went in the settings and qwerty was in default, it mysteriously came back to qwerty on it's own. Actually now, it took me out of writing three times now. I don't know what the hype is with people who hate Apple products but they are waayyyyyyy more reliable, it's not even close.

Honestly I think the sweet spot when it comes to aspect ratio is 3:2, it is in between 16:10 and 4:3 but it has the best performance/compromise ratio. A wider display surface for using it as a notebook/drawing board, but not too wide that it will have really large black bars when watching a movie.

I would add that the S10 (or iPad Pro if you pay for it) anti-reflective screen looks worse inside than without it (S9). Less contrast, worse colors, usual things coming from the (slightly) matte screen.

If anyone was wondering, smaller bezels doesn't mean better. Tablets have big borders to prevent miss touch. Tablets are held differently than phones so it's more needed. I do though don't know which I like more, the longer shape of Samsung, or the more square shape of the iPad. Both have advantages, for example, I find some specific drawing apps better on the iPad, while the shape of the Samsung tab, being closer to 16:9 makes it better for movies.

I waved on whether to upgrade because I already have the S9 Ultra. But with Black Friday deals in a trade-in I got it down to less than $600, which is an insane deal for this quality of tablet. Since tariffs next year are probably going to drive prices up even higher, I'm happy I upgraded. My tab S9 Ultra is my primary computer, even though I have a $4,000 gaming PC that I built myself. I'm a writer, so with Google docs I'm basically covered and there's enough room on the screen to open research tabs in another window, plus music and whatever I want. I really wish Samsung would make a version of these tablets that runs on the Snapdragon X Elite because then it would be my absolute dream device.

Samsung played it safe with this one. Except for the anti-reflective coating (which is nice because the iPad was much better here in the past) there’s nothing remarkable. The chip is decent/good but nothing compared with the M4 of the iPad Pro. They should have gone with the one the new X chips.

lately, Apple has been ticking me off. The latest debacle has to do with the inability to upgrade iPad OS to version 18 for the M4 versions. OK, ordinarily not a big deal, but it points to a deeper problem at Apple - its quality control is going off the rails. Add to that, the fact that the M4 really doesn’t do much more than the M2 - or even the 2018 models, for that matter. It’s becoming easy to see that Apple’s “tech has peaked”, and all Apple is offering from year to year is “more chrome”; and “longer, lower, wider” - like the marketing gimmicks of the US auto manufacturers during the ‘60s and ‘70s. At this price point of the M4, the latest iPad is arguably a “flop.” And I’ve been a “fanboy” since the earliest release around 2011 or so. Admittedly, the only thing Apple has to keep me is their ecosystem. But frankly and at this rate of less-than-stellar-performance, it’s not a matter of if - but when - I’ll make a “jailbreak” from Apple, and head over “…to the dark side.”

Don't compare Dimensity with Exynos, Dimensity uses TSMC's process like 8 Gen 3...both are very close, on many aspect Dimensity is even better (multicore CPU perfs, AI, Ray-tracing...)

An interesting comparison that I've never seen would be a comparison of legacy tech like the Galaxy Tab S7 and the fourth-generation iPad Pro. I'd be curious to see if the iPad has more legs, as I would suspect, or if the experiences on both tabs are roughly comparable.

The reality is that people aren’t doing complex VFX on a tablet that requires an M series chip. I think it’s marketing. I have the galaxy tab A9+ and the snapdragon 695 has AI acceleration and can do local stable diffusion with SDAI. Although it’s way worse obviously it isn’t incapable. The swipe gestures make iPads unenjoyable to use as a tablet IMO and are better used as a laptop with the swipe gestures on the Magic Keyboard trackpad. Androids navigation buttons make Samsung’s tablets better to actually use as a tablet in my humble opinion

I need some advice. I've come across so many devices from both Apple and Samsung. Do you think it's better to stick to one ecosystem or choose devices based on specific considerations, like using an S24 Ultra alongside a MacBook?

It is based on the eco system. I have had both, I am now on Samsung and Windows, Apple is too restrictive. Apple does not play games (try COD on Apple, only one game from 7 years ago works and not well), video (reviewers get paid to say Apple is better) is terrible, try Topaz Lab Video AI on Apple and then on Nvidia 4080. Nvidia 4080 will enhance a video at 120 frames per second, Apple at 20 to 30. Work, Apple apps are crap for business, Windows wins. USB, Apple only supports USB 3.1, not 3.2 or 3.2 2x2, you are stuck on standard USB at 10mb vs 40 with 3.2 2x2, another win for Windows. Try a less than 4K display on a Mac Mini or Mac Studio, it looks like crap, Apple does not know how to adjust DPI, another win for Windows. I will stick with Windows and Samsung, it is not a cohesive system like Apple (when it works, I have had major problems with Apple ecosystem) but, I can adjust, fix and change it to my liking and things just work on Android. Speed, Android and Windows, reviewers want to show you benchmarks, the benchmarks are Apple BIASED, are hands down faster on windows. Build your self a desktop (I did), and it is fast, very fast, Core I9, Nvidia 4080 super, 64GB RAM, 10TBs of Samsung 990 Pro SSDs (oh ya, X86 allows you to install RAM and on my system board 4 SSDs). I have two in a RAID 0 config for speed (11GB a second, try and get that on Apple) right from the system board. I could go on for a long time, but it is still the your decision.

Thank you very much for comparison. I'm curious about battery long term usage. Like, after 3-4 yrs. I have S8 Ultra, and after using it for 1.5 yrs everyday for art and enjoying, I can say that battery significantly depleted. In beginning it was 8-9 hours and now 5-6. I love the size of my Samsung and will keep it (Samsung line) but I'm interested in new function of Apple pencil - Pen Rotation for art creating. Thank you in advance.

The M4 chips are obviously overpowered but what I find lacking in all Android tablets I owned is the underpowered smartphone SoCs making them basically phones with big screens

When I tried to use keyboard shortcuts I'm used to in my friends Samsung Tab S9. They don't seem to work compared to iPadOS keyboard shortcuts that can change per app. For me it will go iPad for work and Samsung for entertainment and gaming.

@@robinhosleftfoot He's referring to the M4 chip which in 2024 is the best chip for any tablet or even computer, on the market. Historically, iPads and MacBooks have longer support. Samsung is promising longer support to match or even exceed Apple, but selectively only for some models and so far hasn't actually demonstrated a follow-through on the promise (because that takes 7 years to find out.). Length of support is only one of three factors for support level. The two others are quality of support and frequency of support. Quality means: do they just tweak some security glitches or do they roll out totally new and innovative features years later? Frequency means, do they roll out updates months or even a year after they were available on new devices, or do old devices get the update simultaneously? In recent history Apple has clearly won in this area with S-tier vs C-tier follow-through. For the future, we can only speculate how much Samsung will up their game to match.

Almost certainly does have 240hz PWM because it's the same screen, and S8/S9 series used 120/240hz PWM, the worst being S9+ with 120hz. But it's the same for iPad Pro 13, 240hz PWM.

Yes. For movies, Samsung (if the tablet isn't too large for everywhere you'll use it like bed.) For gaming, art, music creation, app library quality and size, work, documents, web browsing, ecosystem, performance, and longevity, iPad. Samsung gets some small lifts if you own a Samsung phone and if you do not own a computer but do have an HDTV (DeX). Apple gains some huge points if you have an iPhone and/or Mac due to its ecosystem having a "hive mind" of sharing everything you do between the devices, instantly accessible, copyable, sharable, etc.

As a professional artist, nothing beats my iPad Pro, but I’m glad there is competition from Samsung. It’s good for us consumers. I have to agree that the Samsung has a better aspect ratio for watching movies compared to the 4:3 of the 13” iPad Pro. I have the 11” iPad Pro which has a more movie friendly ratio of 10:7. There is a persistent rumor that Apple may announce a 14” or 16” “ultra” iPad Pro sometime in the future. Who knows. Maybe that larger iPad Pro will have a similar aspect ratio to the Samsung. 🤷‍♂️

Personally I don't think the 1199$ price is just justified for the Tab S10 Ultra after the cparison with the M4 iPads. Reasons: 1. iPads have always been superior to Samsung tablets except in niche use cases. For example, if your use-case really benefits from the super-wide but narrow aspect ratio, and video streaming is your major use case with only 4-5 basic apps only rarely being used.
