After 10 days of using my iPad Air 4 as my daily driver I’m ready to share my results. I completely shut off my Mac Air, put away my Dell XPS and only used my main workstation for my job. The iPad Air 4 is kind of the best of both worlds. It’s powerful and has a very similar form factor to the iPad Pro, but at the same time - is more affordable. Could it be the best value iPad of 2020 and can it completely replace a laptop?
I didn’t have the same issue that I had with my iPad 8 - so that was great - and I can say that for what I do - I could easily go without a laptop as long as I had a… you’ll see.
Other than the file management system - which simply isn’t as sophisticated as MacOS or Windows - the Air 4 is plenty powerful, plenty fast and provides an excellent user experience. Want to know more? Watch the video!

I am glad to see that you are giving the iPad Air 4 some major thumbs up and kudos. I just bought a new iPad Air 4 in mid April 2022. I chose this over the iPad Air 5. Even with the advancements and improvements of the latest iPad Air 5, the 4th gen is still a huge leap forward as far its specs and advancements, compared to the iPad Mini 4 which is the device I have been using for the last 5 years. Plus saved some $$ on the purchase as well. I had watched some of your content, besides others, which also convinced me to go with the iPad Air 4. I feel like I got it right and chose the right device with this purchase. I thought about going with the 11" iPad Pro, it looks great, with the higher refresh rate and all the other advantages, but I now realize that I don't need all those extra added features. And to me, it just didn't make sense to go with the iPad Mini again, which is just $100 less than the iPad Air's much larger display. Plus I might go crazy and go back to school, in my mid 50's or at least start taking some classes, and this Ipad will be much easier to carry around than my laptop. Keep up the great work, your reviews are thorough, and they are well organized as far as how you go over the details and comparisons. Thank you, you definitely helped out with this purchase process.

@@rmoalxa Sorry mate i missed your comment soooo long ago , but anyway , 7 months on yes i still like it a lot , in fact , previously when i would have been lazing around at home doing media consumption , web browsing on my phones , these days the little Ipad goes everywhere with me , if im cooking or doing chores around the house the little ipad follows me everywhere , i set up on the magic keyboard and play music video`s or techy stuff on the tube . Sometimes i take my old mum out in the car , i do the walking because she does get around too good in her old age , and she stays in the car , so sometimes i set up the ipad in the car with some recorded content for her to watch while im gone , its a cool little device. In my use if i was giving apple some pointers on where maybe they could improve it in general , i would have liked a 3.5 mm headphone jack , and while i get pretty decent battery time on it , like probably upwards of 5 or 6 hours of solid use , which is still pretty good , a little more would be nice. If i was to want to have a sook about something , the magic keyboard in my neck of the woods (Australia) is $ 500 bucks , the ipad is not cheap , but the magic keyboard cost is really a kick in the nuts :). you probably have three of them by now anyway :) , or did you get something else ?

If 64 gigs of storage works for you, then this is a great alternative to the iPad Pro. However, if you upgrade 256 gigs of storage, then you're $50.00 shy of the 128 Gig iPad Pro. In that case, if 128 gigs suits your needs, then the iPad pro makes more sense to me. It's a fantastic device no matter which way you go.

I’m going to disagree with you there. If you’re using well over 64 gigs and are planning to keep the device for the foreseeable future, then it might be better to have the 256 gigs as extra room. Even if you don’t think you’ll fill up the storage, you may end up using over 128 gb in the future. It’s good to have the extra room either way, and be futureproof. The 11 inch iPad Pro is a great device, but you’d be downgrading in storage that you may eventually use or want. And you’d also be spending 50 dollars for features you may not care about. Because if you did care about those features you would have opted for an iPad Pro from the start.

I’m going to be honest but this iPad has changed my life. It has been so perfect for my school work. Nothing compares to this. Thanks for this video. Im a digital artist looking to replace my old v1 iPad Air (which struggles mightily). I don't do any really big or serious work on tablets because I prefer a desktop for postural reasons. I was looking at the new Pros, but yikes they're are expensive. Looking downward a bit at the newest Airs, they seem pretty good as a midway point. Your iPad videos are outstanding between the other ones out there. Thanks to your review about the iPad 7th gen, I realized that a basic or older iPad, such as the Pro 12.9 (2017), could be more than enough for me. Now that I got it there's no regrets at all. Love my Pro 12.9 (2017). Lightning port is a downside, but I never work with external storage on my iPad, so it doesn't really matters. About the trackpad, totally agree with you. I oftenly hate trackpads on laptops, but in the iPad is another thing. Congrats for your content and keep it up with the good work! :)

I was attracted by the value of iPad 8, considered to be my replacement of my MacBook Air 2014 11" when I was out of town; later I switched to consider 256GB iPad Air 4 as it would be better in future proof, and eventually I picked up 256GB iPad Pro 2020 11" when I spotted one of the local Apple retail store was on sales and only cost about $75 more for iPad pro. +I’ve had iPad 2 for 8 years and use it exclusively. No new battery just a screen that is cracked and one corner smashed but still works fully. But I ordered this new one. Gets here today or tomorrow. I got the pencil too. Figured out keyboards gave me trigger some fingers so Dr. Said quit them And touch pad works. My fingers are prone though. I need to do photo editing. And Like to armchair sketch for practice....but prefer papering pencils or charcoal and oil paints but staying in practice is a huge priority. Excited!

Why no one is talking about the nonsense of having the camera on a side L or R and not on the side bottom when you're using it landscape ? C'mon that's stupid, it makes me soooo uncomfortable, it seems like you're not watching your interlocutor... Love my new iPad Air 4, but this is definitely a huge cons :(

I debated going from the 7th Gen iPad to a MacBook Air or iPad Air 4. I decided on the iPad Air 4 for the Apple Pencil and magic keyboard and ability to just use it as a tablet too. I picked it up with 256gb and cellular was just what I was looking for to use anywhere.

With the amount of typing that you do, do you find that there is a lag after a while with the typing? I am having that problem currently with my iPad Pro 2018 as well as my MacBook Air. I have cleared Ram Cache many times and it only helps for a short period of time.

Love you videos. Watched this before I recommend the Air4 to my husband now he’s really enjoying it. A problem came up with the headphone aspect though. He wanted to use wired head phones so bought a dongle that has the small Jack on it and the sound didn’t work as we were trying out both zoom & FaceTime. E then ordered the adapter from Apple and same problem. The earbuds worked on my old iPad Pro 2nd gen eliminating that suspect. When we tried Bluetooth earbuds, the latency was significant except for when we tried my AirPods Pro which worked fine. Upon googling the problem, it appears that it has something to do with OS14x. Did you have occasion to try headphones/earbuds at all?

Very impressive because you describe key issues in a understandable detail that i have not seen anywhere else. Key for me is the annoying less sophisticated file management system; surely Apple can get better control of this very important issue. The much higher resolution of the iPad 4 and stereo speakers, portrait versus landscape, were something i had not realized while on conference calls.

These speakers are definitely better than the iPad 8 - not as good as the iPad Pro. But for content and gaming, it’s a noticeable improvement over the iPad 8. Hope that helps.
