i purchased one at best buy about 4 hours ago. so far: easy to set up (about 20 mins total including online reg.) calls are decent but not great. worth it? so far, so good. i'll post an update in a month.

Lucky you! We had another outage for a few hours a couple of weeks ago. Our high-speed Internet acess was all good. I think the problem is that I live in a high-density area and their gateway gets over subscribed.

It is nice that most folks have a good experience. I have Ooma for about two years. I got lucky and my first hardware failure was in less than a year. Overall the service has been unreliable. The latest was I could only make 1 800 and 1 866 calls. No local or long distance. It took them weeks to fix it. The customer service response time ranges between 48 - 72 hours - than they ask you the same questions over and over. If you don't have a cell phone - this isn't for you. You can't trust it.

Ooma has $11.95 a year in taxes??? The plot thickens! Is that true? I only pay $26.00 a month for my Verizon. landline If I'm only saving $4.00 then forget it. I'm not gonna sign up for Ooma.

The idea behind is that they have created already a clientele, the voice is around, the general idea is it is a good deal, it has become a trend... so they can push the envelop and charge more or less at the same level of the competition and customers will continue with the inertia...

According to the OOMA setup manual the setup you have should not even be working! They say you have to disconnect the incoming phone line from to the house and then connect the Telo.
@artos197012 жыл бұрын
That is not true: Ooma charges $4/month from day one on top of $165 for the adapter. and it is not only for taxes: they openly tell you is taxes and "fees", so you are having a bill. Period. I was a lucky former costumer, my adapter lasted 3 years. Lets do the math in the current circumstances: $165/3years = $4.6/month + the $4 they are claiming now = $8.6/month... if your adapter lasts more than 1 year.

you mention you just use the basic service. It shows you have a Ooma HD phone. Have you try to hook up another phone to the phone jack at the back of Ooma box. If the HD phone and the regular phone can dial out at the same time even though you have only one phone number?

I only use Panasonic phones now, and I have my Telo connected to my house connections so even my 1970's era corded phones work!
@RLHoldenSr14 жыл бұрын
@techgooch I did some more research and found that you can hook the base phone of a wireless set to the OOMA Telo and stay off the phone grid entirely! I just have to say that the OOMA instructions are AWFUL! They need to revise them ASAP or I think a lot of the units will be returned by frustrated customers.

Ooma is just capitalizing on the costumers they attracted with their original deal: no new taxes or fees have been enacted by the government, Ooma is the one changing the deal. The only taxes they were paying until this moment were taxes for selling the adapter, since they offered free of charge service, no other government taxes were applicable. Now they want more money and they decided to charge $4 of "applicable fees", it is those new "fees" what attract further taxes, not otherwise

On second thought...Maybe Voipo is a better route to go. I haven't really heard of them. That's $149 everything included, for 2 years. I'll be under contract I think. So some things to think about.

I am a new Ooma subscriber. I am going with the Premier, if for no other reason than the call blocking for nuisance calls. Nuisance calls are every bit as much a pandemic as covid 19. The call blocking serves as a metaphoric vaccine for those nuisance calls.
@thetylife12 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this ! I think I'll give it a try , since there's a 30 money back guarantee from amazon I think. It's $149 plus tax for me there. Do you know of any place where I can get it for cheaper? If it works as well as you say, I'll be kicking myself for using vonage all these yrs. A bit over $30 a month for their cheapest 500 mins limit outcall plan now. I've also tried the magic jack..it's crap IMO.

It would be nice if this company told us this......before we buy and install . Not only that, trying to CANCEL this account was pretty much a nightmare. They auto payed themselves for months b4 I caught it in my CC statment. I finally found someone at the company who knew what the hell they were doing and had it canceled (again) and my monies were returned.

I have tried Ooma and Magic Jack PLUS (and the original Magic Jack). I compared call quality, cost, abilities and which services were available. My comparison has concluded that Ooma is not worth the $150-$200 investment. My MJ and MJP work beautifully for a fraction of the price of Ooma. Oh, I have six MJP running on a single Comcast Internet connection. MJ and MJP are superior to any POTS, Ooma or any other provider. Frankly, MJ & MJP are superior to my cell phones.

So, after 3 years I had paid an equivalent of $8.6/month with Ooma... with VoIpo I paid $5.38/month and they will replace the adapter for free if ever broke, no questions asked... after the 2 years you can just purchase 2 years more for the same price: so who is giving a better deal?

What about porting my telephone number from my old service to the oomaa?
@patkirchhoefer112011 жыл бұрын
I am going to acquire three OOMA TELOS for my vacation rental properties in the Smoky Mountains. All three locations have routers for wifi and I have dsl, not a dish for internet. Here is my question. What is the difference between hooking the OOMA directly to the router or hooling the modem to the OOMA and then the router to the OOMA. I will only use the ooma for 911 calling primarily, but I do understand all calls are free except for the $10 to $12 a month for taxes, etc. I appreciate your response. I will be ordering the three units within a week. Thank you.
@patkirchhoefer11209 жыл бұрын
If you look on KZbin videos you may find the answer to your questions. However, I hooked it up as per Ooma's instructions and it worked perfectly. It takes awhile for all updates and all that technical stuff to download, but once it said, BINGO, I was in business and I have had seamless service.
@artos197012 жыл бұрын
There are companies that offer a way better deal and way better customer service. Ooma claims the $4 they are charging is government's taxes and fees... but you can type in your browser "VoIpo" and you will see that this company charges $5/month and you don't have to buy the interface, and this is not a "none for profit company"... so? what happened to the "mandatory government taxes and fees"?

Thanks for the input, saw one of these again today wasn't sure about 6 months ago about the investment, kinda helped sell me on the idea. And the taxes they pay for those "new fees" they are implementing is a fraction of the $4 they are charging... ask them to provide you with a web link to a page where those new fees are breakdown... Maybe they should be sued for defamation: they are not charging for government taxes and fees, they are charging fees that attract further government taxes, nothing else... As I said: I returned my replacement Ooma and got another provider, there are many way cheaper.

So why are you paying $11 for the year, and I'm paying $50 per 🤔
@artos197012 жыл бұрын
Not a good deal anymore, if you divide the cost of the device by the 12 months of warranty plus the $4 per month and the extra $1 for yearly taxes, you will end up paying around $22 per month... that's the new deal, and this is considering they replace your interface if it breaks within the warranty period.

I think u r the one who should revise your math again: $200 for the devise with only 1 year warranty that doesn't include if it gets fried for any instance and dies plus $12 tax per year and $4 per month in claim taxes implies $200/12 + $4 + $12/12 = $22 per month... savings of only $4 average from other providers... it was a great deal once upon a time, not anymore... until an idiot CEO came around and decided to push the envelop as much as possible. Just like Netflix...

We tried Ooma business and liked the service, but Ooma was unable to port our 912-756-**** number to the account. So we had to cancel the account. Very disappointed in how Ooma handles my cancellation... in the email i received one day after cancelling the account "Since we will need to keep your account active while you look for a new owner of this device, we have temporarily suspended the billing on your account until [September 05, 2016], but your service and your account will remain active during this time, and we will resume billing your credit card for the monthly fees after [September 06, 2016] unless the account has been successfully transferred to the new customer."
